Chapter 5 - 5: Cultivation Process

Zade forced himself to relax. It was easier said than done because his entire body was tense and his heart was racing really fast. But he forced his accelerating heartbeat to slow down and gradually loosened his tense joints.

The cultivation process was a long one. Zade was thankful for being an avid reader and for the fact that he had a retentive memory. Else, how would he have been able to save himself right now?

The first process of cultivating the poison was to not fight it. That was the first mistake the character had made in the book. He had choked on the poison while struggling with the little will power he had.

Zade thankfully knew better, so instead of fighting, he went completely lax and let everything flow within him at an even pace.

Then he began to slowly send the poison to poll in the middle of his stomach. In the darkness of his mind, he could see the form of the poison. The spider venom was curled around the processed mana, but as the merged substance slowly pooled in the middle of his stomach, they gradually separated.

The images he was seeing in his mind were the exact ones in the novel. He was still blown away by the fact that all of this was really happening and not just a figment of his imagination.

He began to count to ten now that the mana and spider venom has separated into two. The mana quantity was indeed excess, and mixed with the spider venom, it was really poisonous. But now that they had separated within him, it was no longer poisonous. If handled right, it would cure him, and he'd be able to see, speak and walk. But if he made a single mistake and it failed, the excess mana would end up poisoning his extremely weak body, which would undoubtedly lead to death.

After the count to ten was up, Zade ceased breathing. If he breathed in this process, he'd ruin the cultivation process.

This was why it was emphasized later in the story that the procedure wasn't an easy one, but Zade was determined to pull it off.

He wasn't ready to die just after transmigrating.

The mana glowed a bright white on one side of his stomach, and the spider venom was inky black, almost like a ball of smoke, at the other side of his stomach.

With his breath still seized, he began to move the spider venom through his body with his mind. He started by willing the venom down his legs, then his arms, and then through the rest of his body, including his face. As the venom began the descent, it felt like Zade was starting to grow hot from the inside.

It was unlike anything he had ever experienced before. It felt like there was suddenly no space in his body, and the pressure of the heat began to climb up in milliseconds, Zade's entire body began to tremble hard as white hot pain began to shoot through his body. His chest felt unbearably tight and it was harder to still not breathe.

He could feel how he was sweating on the outside and how his veins were swelling underneath his skin. As the pain heightened, the will to still hold his breath was getting less and less but he was determined to still hold it.

He was shaking right now, feeling like his insides were on fire, and it felt like he was starting to grow dizzy. His throat was on fire, and his system was desperately crying out for air. But a little gust of air being let into his lungs would ruin everything, so Zade held on, even as it felt like he was starting to pass out.

When the hotness slowly began to ebb away, and the spider venom had fully been absorbed by his body, he sucked in a deep breath, gasping desperately and choking on air. His entire body shook as he dragged in greedy lungfuls of air till his chest finally felt less suffocating.

That was so terrifying.

For a moment, he had thought he'd start breathing when he wasn't supposed to yet. But he was glad he was able to hold out till the end.

He exhaled a long breath, then he settled on the second quest, which is to cultivate the mana. It must be done in a specific and accurate way to avoid mana poisoning. The mana had been processed with the required ingredients that his body needs.

He began to absorb small drops gradually. He couldn't absorb too much at once, lest it harm him. The process was slow, but he had no stance to complain. He continued the excruciating process till he fully processed the mana.

He took in a deep breath and let his breath leave his lungs in a whoosh, then he slowly blinked his eyes open.

His eyes opened and he was able to see.

"Holy shit! It worked! It actually worked!" He cried out happily, relief and joy shrugging through him.

He slapped a hand over his mouth while his eyes widened.

He had just spoken too.

He could see and speak!

He pushed himself to a sitting position and carefully got to his feet. His body felt extremely weak, and his legs shook with the pressure, but he was able to stand without any assistance.

Zade was unable to believe his eyes.

Zade couldn't believe it actually worked. He had done the exact things he was supposed to do, but was still shocking that it actually worked out.

He took a careful step forward as his eyes wandered around the room. He was indeed in the room of the useless side character in his favorite book. The room is bleak looking in its dull color and empty except for a small bed, a bedside table, and a small box containing a few clothes.

Zade still felt like all of this a dream, but a pinch to his arm confirmed that this wasn't a dream.

He had actually died and was currently in his favorite novel. Not as his favorite character- the protagonist who is the most powerful character in the book… but as a useless character.

In the novel Beast Taming Zone, the protagonist was a legendary beast tamer. He was a prodigy that inspired Zade so much while growing up. He constantly leveled up and always defeated his enemies with the help of the mystical beasts he tamed along the way in the novel.

The novel was incomplete, and Zade had been so hurt to discover the author abandoned the book. He believed authors had no rights to do that, because it was unfair to the readers, and if asked, he'd tell authors to not begin a book they're gonna abandon halfway.

The character's body he was currently in was named Killian.

Useless, lame killian.

No one liked him in the novel, because he was too relevant for most people to even remember his name. Zade only remembered him because he had read the novel countless times.

Zade let out a sigh as he walked back to the bed and sat on it.

He was glad that he could now see, speak and walk.

But there was a problem.

His family thought he'd have died by now. How was he gonna explain all this to them once they arrive to check on him?

In the novel, Killian is from the Zaucah family. Killian wasn't their biological child, but he wasn't adopted either.

Martha Zaucah, married to James Zaucah, had been childless for over twenty years.

She always prayed to the water goddess, hoping that her prayers would get answered one day. Her day of miracle finally came one morning. The waters parted in the middle of her daily ritual, and a baby was revealed laying in between terrifying, large waves.

An overjoyed Martha took the child home, and she and her husband celebrated and were so happy. However, months later, Martha took in. Then as soon as she birthed her first biological child- Cyrus, she didn't want Killian anymore.

When Killian and Cyrus began to grow up together, Killian was better at everything than Cyrus, and it infuriated Martha and Mark so much, till they fed Killian a portion that rendered him blind, dumb and lame.

None of this was revealed till later in the story. Zade is only aware because he had read the novel.

Zade wasn't sure of what he was supposed to do next. Anything he does next would undoubtedly disrupt the flow of his favorite novel, but Zade is certain of one thing.

Since this was his new life now, he was gonna change his fate, and he'll stop at nothing till he does just that.
