Chapter 1 - INTRODUCTION

Well, hello there, dear readers! If you're diving into this book, you're about to embark on a rather unusual journey—one that's all about my life. I'm Ash, a male detective, and yes, you heard that right: a blind detective. Shocking, isn't it? Trust me, I thought so too when I first got the job!

I work at the Devil Detective Office. Yes, you read that correctly—Devil. You might be wondering why it's called that. Well, let's just say that when cases get sensitive, some of my colleagues can act like, well, devils. But don't worry; I'm here to navigate through the chaos with my unique set of skills.

Now, you might be thinking, "How does a blind person manage to be a detective?" Well, let me clear that up for you. I don't have a guide dog or a trusty sidekick. Nope! What I do have is super hearing—think of it as having ears that are just a bit more attuned than the average human. I can pick up on sounds that most people would miss. And then there's my special awareness; it's like having a sixth sense that tells me where things are, even in a crowded room.

So, welcome to my world—the world of a blind detective. It's a place where I solve mysteries, navigate through life's challenges, and occasionally trip over my own feet. But hey, who needs sight when you have a knack for deduction and a sense of humor? Buckle up, because this is going to be one wild ride!

I woke up this morning like usual, and there was my neighbor, screaming at her husband for some ridiculous reason. This time, it was because he didn't feed her last night. But he was working late at the office! How can she expect that?

I swung my legs off the bed, letting them hit the ground with a soft thud. I stood up and walked toward the bathroom. As I did, I tapped my foot on the floor three times—thud… thud… thud. My mind reassured me that there were no obstacles in my way, and I confidently made my way to the bathroom.

"What are you reading?" I thought. "I'm going to shower now, so close your eyes! These readers don't know what privacy is." I closed the door behind me and turned on the water, letting it cascade down from my hair to my chest, then to my toned abs.

"Hey, narrator, stop it already! Let me shower in peace!" I exclaimed, feeling a bit annoyed.

"Sorry, buddy. It's a bad habit," the narrator replied, almost sheepishly.

After a long hour, Ash emerged from the shower, his Greek god-like body glistening. With a smirk, he said, "Never seen a body like this, huh?"

He paused for a moment, then added, "Well, let's get dressed. We have to go to work."

"Readers, what do you think? Am I going to drive some fancy vehicle like a car or a bike?" he continued, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "Sorry, our narrator doesn't have that much money."

"Hey, I heard that, you moron!" the narrator chimed in.

"Oops, sorry! I forgot you were here," Ash replied, rolling his eyes. "Anyway, you know how I'm getting to that ridiculous devil of an office? Ta-da! A cab!"

He gestured dramatically, as if revealing a grand prize. "Yeah, I know, a cab is all my budget allows. But mark my words, one day I'll buy my own ride!"

As he stepped outside, the sound of a car engine revving filled the air.

"Vroom… vroom…"

The cab pulled up, and the driver called out, "Sir, your stop is here!"

Ash paid the fare, the sound of coins clinking as he handed them over. He exited the cab and stood in front of the devilish detective office, taking a deep breath.

"Here we go," he muttered, steeling himself for whatever awaited him inside. "Well, wait a sec. If I'm working here, then I'm also a devil, right?"

The narrator interjected, "Shut up and go already, moron."

Ash sighed, "Ugh, fine, fine! I'm going. Just stay silent already." With that, he tapped his foot on the ground three times—thud... thud... thud—and entered the door, revealing the bustling office filled with noisy workers darting here and there.

"Well, typical office," Ash remarked as he walked toward his boss's office, skillfully avoiding any collisions. The others watched in awe, wondering how he managed to navigate the chaos so effortlessly, even though they witnessed it daily.

He knocked on the door three times. "Come in," a deep voice called from within.

Ash stepped inside, straightening his posture. "Ash is here, sir, at your service."

His boss, Roy, looked up from his desk, a serious expression on his face. "Well, Ash, today I called you in because you've got a case—a weird one."

Ash's mind raced. *Why are all the weird cases always given to me?*

The narrator chimed in again, "Because you're the main character, moron."

Ash rolled his eyes. "Oh, right. I forgot about that."

Roy leaned back in his chair, studying Ash. "Are you listening, Ash?"

"Yes, sir, I'm listening," Ash replied, trying to sound attentive. "I'll take the file. And if you don't mind, can I ask you something?"

"Go ahead," Roy said, a smirk creeping onto his face.

"Who's on my team for this case?" Ash asked, his curiosity piqued.

Roy's smirk widened. "Hori and Yumi."

Ash muttered under his breath, "Well, I'm doomed."

"Well, well, well! The great Ash has found himself stuck with his crush and her sister," the narrator chimed in, a hint of mischief in his tone.

Ash rolled his eyes, exasperated. "Can't you just shut up? This case is going to be annoying as hell."

Roy, his superior, leaned back in his chair, a serious expression crossing his face. "Ash, I want this mission wrapped up as quickly as possible. It's... weird and brutal."

Ash raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Weird in what way, sir?"

Roy leaned forward, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "The attacks are targeting older people, and their adrenal glands are missing."

Ash's eyes widened. "Sir, those glands can't be transplanted, right? What could they possibly use them for?"

"That's what you need to find out, Ash," Roy replied, his tone firm yet encouraging. "You may be blind, but with your unique abilities, I think you're the best fit for this mission. Use them wisely."

With a salute, Ash turned on his heel and exited the office, his mind racing with questions. Just as he stepped into the hallway, a familiar voice called out to him, sweet and melodic.

"Ash!"
