Chapter 15 - Chapter 14 : The Final Stand

The outpost walls loomed ahead, their sturdy stone construction offering little comfort against the approaching darkness. The entire landscape was shrouded in a haze of swirling shadows, the Wraith of the Abyss looming over them like a harbinger of doom. It was a monster born from the very fabric of forbidden magic, and no matter how hard they fought, it seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment.

Hikaru's thoughts raced as they scrambled inside the outpost, the last bastion of hope in this forsaken place. Behind them, the Wraith's dark tendrils lashed out, tearing through the earth and sky with terrifying speed. The time for running was over. There was only one way to survive.

He turned to the mages, their faces pale with fear but steeled with resolve. "We've found its weakness," he said, his voice clear and commanding. "The Wraith is vulnerable to energy disruption. We need to combine our strengths and unleash everything we have into one massive attack."

Kora, standing by his side, nodded. "I'll lead the scouts in gathering as much energy as we can. It's now or never."

Hikaru's eyes scanned the group. The tension was palpable. They all knew what was at stake.

"Prepare yourselves. This fight isn't over," Hikaru continued. "We strike together, and we end this nightmare."

System Alert: Energy Collection in Progress

➤ Combining Magical Energy

➤ Energy Disruption Threshold Approaching

➤ Warning: Energy Overflow Risk High

The System's alerts flooded Hikaru's mind, urging him to act fast. The Wraith was already closing in, its massive form flickering with dark magic as it drew nearer. With every step, the shadows around it seemed to grow, like an expanding black hole.

Kora moved quickly, rallying the scouts to their positions. They took up defensive stances around the mages, preparing to provide support in case the Wraith launched another attack. Meanwhile, the mages began to chant in unison, their hands glowing with bright, pure light. It was a difficult and delicate process to channel so much power into one strike, but Hikaru knew they didn't have the luxury of time.

"Everyone, stay focused!" Hikaru shouted. "Don't let it break through. We can do this."

The air crackled with energy, and Hikaru could feel the magic building, surging around him like a storm about to break. His sword pulsed with energy, resonating with the combined power of his allies. He felt the weight of the moment—the world depended on them.

"Now!" Hikaru ordered.

At his command, the mages released the collected energy, their magic coalescing into a blinding beam of light. The scouts added their support, releasing their own energy into the beam, fueling it with everything they had.

The combined force of their magic erupted outward, crashing into the Wraith of the Abyss with an earth-shattering explosion.

For a moment, everything was silent. The world seemed to hold its breath as the light from the attack illuminated the dark landscape.

System Alert: Entity "Wraith of the Abyss" Reacting to Energy Disruption

➤ Entity is being Overpowered by Energy Disruption

➤ Energy Disruption Threshold Surpassed

➤ Warning: Entity's Core is Collapsing

➤ Incoming: Final Defensive Mechanism

The Wraith's form flickered and spasmed, as if the light was tearing it apart from the inside. Its body twisted and writhed in an unnatural dance, the shadows that made up its form becoming unstable. But it wasn't defeated yet. The Wraith's eyes glowed brighter than ever, and with a shriek that tore through the air, it unleashed its final defense.

Dark magic surged outward, a storm of black tendrils lashing out at the group. The energy from the attack was enough to shatter the ground, sending shockwaves through the outpost. Hikaru felt his body thrown backward by the force of the impact. The world around him spun, his senses overwhelmed by the sheer power of the Wraith's final strike.

He barely managed to push himself to his feet, his sword still in hand, though it felt heavier than ever. He could see the others struggling to stay upright, their faces twisted in pain, but none of them had given up. They were all still standing, still fighting.

System Alert: Entity "Wraith of the Abyss" Is Collapsing

➤ Entity's Core is Fragmenting

➤ Energy Surge Detected: Entity is Self-Destructing

➤ Warning: Area of Effect: 1000 Meters

➤ Suggestion: Immediate Evacuation Required

"Everyone, get back!" Hikaru shouted, his voice hoarse. The System's warning was clear—if they didn't get out of the Wraith's range, they would be caught in the blast.

But the Wraith was still alive. It was self-destructing, but it wasn't going down without taking everything with it. Hikaru's mind raced, and his instincts flared to life. He couldn't let it end like this—not after everything they had fought for.

He turned to Kora. "We have to finish this, now!"

Kora's eyes met his, understanding in an instant. Without hesitation, she nodded.

"Let's do it."

Together, they moved toward the heart of the Wraith's collapsing form. The shadows were thick, trying to pull them in, but Hikaru's sword blazed with light, cutting through the darkness. Kora followed closely, her blade shining as brightly as the stars. The mages had weakened the Wraith, but it was up to them to strike the final blow.

System Alert: Final Attack: Targeting Entity's Core

➤ Direct Attack at Entity's Weakest Point

➤ Warning: High Risk of Magical Feedback

➤ Energy Overload Detected: Immediate Action Required

As they closed in on the Wraith's core, Hikaru felt the weight of the magic surrounding them. It was unlike anything he had ever experienced—the very fabric of reality seemed to be unraveling. But there was no turning back. They had come this far, and they couldn't fail now.

Hikaru raised his sword, the blade glowing with the combined energy of the entire group. With a final cry, he thrust the sword forward, driving it deep into the heart of the Wraith's form. The shadows screamed, recoiling as if in pain, and then, with a violent explosion of light, the Wraith's body shattered.

The Wraith of the Abyss was no more.

But the energy from its destruction sent a shockwave across the land, and Hikaru felt the earth tremble beneath his feet. The outpost walls cracked, and the ground began to split. They had to leave—now.

"Retreat!" Hikaru yelled. "Move, now!"

The group scrambled to get to safety as the outpost crumbled around them. Hikaru led the charge, his heart pounding as he sprinted toward the edge of the area, the others following close behind.

System Alert: Area is Collapsing

➤ Escape Route Secured

➤ Evacuation Complete in 10 Seconds

➤ Warning: Energy Release Detected

➤ Area of Destruction: 2 Kilometers

They made it out just in time. As they reached a safe distance, the ground behind them exploded in a final burst of energy, a shockwave that sent them sprawling to the earth. But they had survived. The Wraith of the Abyss was defeated, and the village was safe—for now.

Hikaru lay on the ground, panting, his body aching from the battle. He closed his eyes for a moment, allowing himself a brief moment of respite.

"We did it," Kora said, her voice barely a whisper.

Hikaru nodded, his gaze turned toward the horizon. "Yes. But this is only the beginning. We've just scratched the surface of what's out there."

The darkness may have been defeated, but Hikaru knew that the war for the world was far from over.
