Chapter 3 - Life Alone

Since the first to third floors were almost completely destroyed, Ruminas only had the fourth or fifth floors left and was already here, so she decided to return to her room.

"Finally still come back here…"

Ruminas started taking out bandages and a first aid kit and started treating his own wounds. It was mostly just disinfecting and bandaging them, but there was one problem: the wounds on his waist and leg were quite deep and needed stitches.

There was no anesthetic in her house so Rumias could only grit her teeth and use one tooth to sew up the wound herself.

Each needle passing through left an indescribable pain, and by the time she finished, Ruminas was almost exhausted. She did a rather clumsy job, but at least the wound stopped bleeding.

After that, Ruminas immediately fell asleep because of exhaustion.

Ruminas didn't know how much time had passed, but when she woke up, it was already morning again. She dragged herself to the window to check the situation. Outside, the sky was still blue, but the air was extremely desolate.

All that was left was collapsed buildings, cracked roads, and absolute silence. Ruminas couldn't see anyone else here, it seemed like they had all evacuated or been killed by monsters.

"So I'm the only one stuck here…?"

Realizing this fact made Ruminas feel very sad , but it was still better than going out with her body covered in wounds like that. At least until her leg was completely healed.

So the next issue is the living supplies that will be coming while here.

Ruminas tried to stand up and walk back and forth, her legs were limping and still sore but she had to go out to find some more supplies first. Starting with this apartment.

In addition, Ruminas did not forget to bring a knife for self-defense. She went to each room and carefully checked. Only when she confirmed that there was nothing inside did she go in to take the necessary items.

Food and drink are the two top priorities.

Then there were the other household items. She also found a baseball bat in one of the rooms so she decided to take it with her.

Going around the fifth and fourth floors, Ruminas had already found a lot of necessary things, enough for her to survive here for about a month, but there was still one more thing she wanted to check.

The monster's corpse…

Ruminas crawled down again, luckily the stairs were not destroyed and she found the monster's body crushed under the rubble, when she pushed everything away, its body appeared in a state of blackened charring and no longer alive.

Confirming that it was dead gave Ruminas some peace of mind, but she felt that leaving its body here was not a good idea as it might attract another monster.

So in her injured state Ruminas dragged the monster's corpse up and placed it in the room next to hers.

"So tired…"

By the time she finished doing these things, it was already dark. Since there was no electricity, she could only use wooden objects to make a small fire to warm herself and cook food.

"For now, let's just leave it like this…"

Ruminas happily enjoyed her meal and then went to bed early because she really needed rest right now to let her wounds heal.

The next morning, Ruminas woke up very early and got ready again. There wasn't much to do other than sit in the house, she found a radio but couldn't get any signal.

Since there was nothing to do, Ruminas turned to studying the corpse of the creature. Even now, when she looked at its charred corpse, she still felt a bit nervous because she had actually won.

Although it was called research, Ruminas didn't know much about it, she just tried to cut it open to learn about its internal organs. Even though it had been dead for several days, the blood inside was still intact, the black blood flowing onto the floor made her retreat.

She tried touching the blood with a few objects but there was no reaction. It didn't look much different from normal blood except that it was thicker and black.

Since it was only an indirect test, there was no result, so Ruminas decided to try touching it directly.

Still no response.

"Is it just blood?"

Ruminas didn't quite believe it.

But there was no other way, so she had to let it go first. When she got to the flesh, she discovered that its skin was not rotten or smelly, but on the contrary, it was still very tough.

When she stabbed with the knife, she had to use a lot of force to penetrate this layer of skin, and the tentacles were already dead.

Ruminas tried to cut off a piece of meat again, it was very hard but when she tried to burn it with fire, the meat was immediately burnt away.

"So its weakness really is fire."

She immediately noted this point.

She looked at the creature as a whole again, it had a round body and moved on four legs, there were four tentacles behind it, on its head there was only a mouth and a pair of ears, there were no other parts at all Ruminas speculated that it also couldn't smell.

Regarding the internal structure, Ruminas only saw a heart, located right in the middle of the body, and there were no other parts.

"Um, I don't know how it digests."

Ruminas carefully memorized the location of this heart and then searched for the points on its body that were easiest to attack the heart.

"The distance from the outer layer of skin to the heart is about 15 cm, so the small knife I'm using isn't enough. If I want a fatal blow, I'll need a longer weapon," Ruminas thought.

"Okay, today is enough."

Ruminas left that room and returned to his room, knowing the monster's structure, the next step was to find a way to deal with it, starting with preparing a new weapon.

"This knife is a bit short, but if we could combine the two…"

Then she took out two knives, used a lot of force to separate the handle and blade of one knife, and attached the blade to the other knife with glue and wire.

"Looks good…"

Ruminas waved it around, it felt very sturdy so she decided to use it for now.

In the following days, Ruminas lived peacefully in her room, her injuries had already recovered quite a bit. In addition, Ruminas also started to train more to improve her physical strength.

She also found a book in a certain room about basic self-defense. Ruminas also learned it, mostly just the basic moves for self-defense.

"So bored…"

"The food is almost gone…"

Although it was safe here, Ruminas also wished that he could find a place with people around so that he would feel safer. Furthermore, the problem of food and water was also coming up soon.

Ruminas had been trying to live frugally for the past month, but what had to happen had to happen. Food would last for about a week, but water was all gone.

She even gave up on bathing and just simply wiped her body, but it still didn't help.

"Should I go out and get some water??" Ruminas thought.

Her leg has healed so moving around is no problem now, and her other injuries are fine so it's probably time for her to go out.

"It would be nice to find someone, but if not, finding some food would be fine."

Ruminas didn't want to move because she still didn't know where to go. The radio hadn't picked up any signal since that day, so she would just stay here for now. And in the past month, Ruminas had already encountered monsters moving around outside a few times.

At those times, she could only stay still and wait for it to leave. After a month of living alone, her mentality had become more stable, so this wasn't too difficult.

Ruminas started packing some basic things and headed out. If she delayed any longer, she would be in trouble.

She also determined the location to go.

She remembered that there was a convenience store nearby, so she would go there first to see if she could find anything. Ruminas could also stop by the surrounding houses to search as well.

"Hopefully I won't run into anything…"

Ruminas sighed, just praying that this trip would go smoothly.
