Synopsis
“They said I was too weak to survive. So they left me to die.” In a world scarred by dimensional rifts, humanity’s only hope lies in Veilwalkers—elite hunters gifted with power by ancient relics. But not everyone is chosen. Kael Verin wasn’t. Labeled a failure. Mocked. Dragged through every dungeon as nothing more than bait. Until one day, his own team—people he trusted—left him bleeding on the floor of a cursed ruin. That should have been the end. But something buried deep in the darkness heard him. And it offered a choice. Not salvation. Rebirth. Now bound to an ancient and forbidden relic, Kael rises—not as a hero, not as a savior—but as the first Shadow Ranker, walking a path carved by pain, vengeance, and a power no human was ever meant to wield. They took everything from him. Now, he’ll take everything back. Even if he becomes the monster they always feared he would.

SHADOW RANKER

Chapter 1: Left Behind

The ground trembled.

Kael Verin's breath came in sharp, uneven gasps as he staggered down the blood-slick corridor of the dungeon. The walls around him pulsed with a grotesque purple glow—alive, watching, whispering. The air reeked of ash, sweat, and something worse. Something old.

He tightened his grip around the chipped blade in his hand. Not even steel. Just a scavenged weapon from a fallen Veilwalker. And now it was dull and cracked—like him.

"Wait…! Don't… leave me—!"

His voice echoed off the stone. But the team was gone. Their silhouettes had disappeared into the shadow fog minutes ago. He had shouted, screamed… but no one looked back.

They left me.

It wasn't a mistake.

It was a decision.

A clean break.

Kael dropped to one knee, coughing up blood. The monster's claw had torn through his side just before he killed it. He'd fought, not because he wanted to survive, but because… dying like prey wasn't an option. Not again.

His hand brushed against something cold—a relic shard buried under a layer of broken bone and ash. He barely noticed it. His vision blurred. He leaned his head back against the wall and laughed bitterly.

"Rank F. Kael the burden. Kael the stain."

There was a time he dreamed of rising. Of proving them wrong. Of being chosen by a relic, awakening to magic, and joining the elite.

Instead, he was chosen by nothing.

He watched as others soared, while he remained broken-winged and silent.

But as the final darkness of unconsciousness began to settle over him, the shard beneath his hand pulsed.

Once.

Twice.

Then exploded into violet light.

His body jerked upright, spine arched like lightning had struck his soul.

Do you want power?

The voice wasn't heard. It was felt. Cold, invasive, ancient.

A screen blinked open in front of him.

Kael gasped as something ripped through his chest—not pain, but force. Like claws dragging themselves into his heart. Shadows coiled around his arms and spine, fusing with his blood. His wound… closed. The broken blade in his hand crumbled into dust.

In its place, black mist pooled in his palm, shaping into a jagged obsidian dagger.

[Shadow Blade Acquired.]

He stood, breathing heavily. The dungeon pulsed again, but now… it feared him.

A notification flickered again.

Kael's eyes widened.

Not because of fear.

But because for the first time in his life… the System had acknowledged him.

He clenched his fist. The shadows answered. Swirling. Obedient.

He wasn't Kael the burden anymore.

He was the first and only… Shadow Ranker.

To be continued….
