Once Lia falls asleep I leave the dorm entirely, my pack must be waiting for me. We rarely ever meet like this but apparently a new rogue has been captured and as the Alpha, I have to come in for judgment.
"Dave, you should know what to do with them by now, I don't have to come here every time" I tell my best friend as I enter the palace.
"You remain the Alpha, I cannot make decisions like this without you coming in, you know this" he replies sighing.
Once I reach the throne I notice the other elders from the community are already seated. Once the rogue's crimes are read out I pass judgment which is death. He is then dragged out, I stand to leave when one of the elders calls me.
"My Lord, permit me to speak but the kingdom is worried, ever since your father died 2 years ago and you became the alpha, we are yet to see your mate, it's becoming a concern. You're the youngest to become an alpha and now you don't even have a mate" an elder says.
"And he keeps going to that human school" another quickly says.
"I'm at the human school to catch the rogues as an undercover, you all know that. Regarding my mate, do not be worried, I shall find her soon" I reply.
They don't seem pleased by the information but I leave anyway, "you've been saying you'll find her soon for a while, don't you feel connected to anybody?" Dave asks
I remain silent, my mind is racing, I am also worried, wondering why I haven't found my mate till now.
"Have you considered the human girl, Lia, the one you're always talking about, your academic rival?" Dave asks
"Oh please, I'm sure she's not my mate" I reply offended that he would even think that.
"You don't need to be in that school though, most of the rogues are caught and the few remaining can be caught by the other undercover agents, you're remaining there for another reason" he says like he's some kind of psychic.
"What are you, a fortune teller, well your predictions aren't working Dave, leave me alone" I reply.
We keep walking in silence "she's my new roommate" I say.
"Who?"
"Lia"
"What? That's crazy" Dave says and I swear he's smiling.
"Smiling at my misfortune? Such an amazing friend you are" I say and he laughs.
"I just feel you're closer to having a mate" he says and I sigh.
"I'm going back"
"So soon? You'd usually stay in the palace for a while, rushing to see Lia?" Dave retorts
"Yeah, keep going if you want a punch"
Soon I'm back in the room, I immediately sense that Lia is still asleep. I clean out the parlor and kitchen before heading to my bedroom.
The next morning, I'm up before Lia, so I start preparing breakfast, I fry some eggs and make a toasted sandwich. I smell her before she speaks.
"Are you like a retired chef?" Lia asks
I turn to her, "I just like cooking" I say and point to the meal I made for her.
"Okay, we need to set some rules, do you intend to do this cooking thing everyday and claim you overcooked, so I can eat too?" She asks
"Yes, I don't see the need in you buying any food" I reply
"Okay I don't have a problem with that, but you're going to have to give me your fees, or else it'll just feel wrong, you can calculate how much the foodstuffs cost and I'll pay" Lia says and I smile
"Lia I don't need your petty change please" I reply and she gasps and puts her hand to her chest like she's offended.
"Yeah well no thank you" she says pushing the plate of breakfast I made for her.
"You'll let the food waste?"
"Put it in the fridge"
"No"
"Then give me the bill"
"Fine, I'll compile it and send it to you"
"You have my number?"
"Yes Lia, you don't have mine? I guess it's my turn to act offended" I reply.
She doesn't say anything as she sits and starts eating. I find myself watching her. When she releases a soft moan of satisfaction I realize I was waiting for a sort of proof that she likes the food. I quickly stare away, wondering where that came from.
"Are you going for the party?" She asks
"What party?"
"The 24 hours party… it started by 12 midnight and will end this midnight" Lia says and I stare at her confused. "Do you even have friends on campus, it's all everyone's talking about, they've been sharing videos since"
"Yeah I haven't heard of it, are you going?" I ask
"Duh, I'm going by 1 with Rae"
"A 24 hours party seems dangerous, people would be drunk" I say.
"Live a little would you" she says as she cleans her mouth. "Thank you for the meal, I'll wash the dishes while you take your bath"
"You're the one going out, go and take your bath while I wash the dishes" I reply and she stares at me like I just said pigs can fly.
"You can't cook and do the dishes, that's so unfair" she says
"I actually love doing the dishes, it's one of my best things to do after cooking" I lie smoothly, why? I don't know
"No one loves washing dishes" she mutters and starts clearing the table. "Well thank you" she says once she's done and rushes to the bathroom.
After doing the dishes I settle in the parlor scrolling through my phone and that's when I see the party she's talking about. From the videos circulating I can see that the people there are already drunk. Some people are even breaking bottle, I mutter some swear words. Who even does a 24 hours party, what even is that.
When she comes out, her hair wet and her silk bathrobe tied around her, I take a deep breath. I don't know why I'm feeling this way. A sudden sense of protectiveness comes over me, I can't let her go to that party alone.
"I'll go with you, to the party" I say just as she's about to enter her room.
"Finally, what smacked some sense into your head" she says and enters her room.
I rush to take my bath, her smell is all over and I find myself sniffing everywhere, and then I do something weird, I use her body wash and shampoo. By the time I'm done I'm smelling like her.
I rush to my room and put on my clothes. By the time I'm done, she's still preparing so I settle back in the parlor. Then someone knocks on the door and I go to open. I recognize her as Myra, Lia's best friend.
"Wow, I thought she was joking, I guess you really are her roommate" she says as soon as she enters.
"Which one is her room?" She asks and I point to Lia's room. As she enters I hear them scream before quieting down.
Soon they're both out, and seeing Lia almost knocks the air right out of my lungs. She's wearing a bum short and a backless crop top. "You look beautiful" the words fly out before I can stop myself. She stares at me obviously shocked and I stare back, shocked too.
"Thank you" she says and Myra clears her throat giggling and side eyeing Lia.
I lock the room behind us as we leave. It's a short walk to the party building. Music booms and the floors are literally shaking. "Yes, this is the life" Lia screams and Myra laughs as they immediately take shots that I'm worried might be spiked.
How they can be so comfortable here is beyond my reasoning. "Did you come as our bodyguard?" Lia asks when she notices me just standing there.
Before I can answer a dude walks up to her and asks if he can dance with her. I'm about to say no when she in fact says yes and walks away with him. I grab a shot and down it. "Why am I feeling some tension here" Myra asks and I stare at her.
"What tension?" I ask and she smiles "nothing" and then she walks away to dance with another guy. I'm on my own watching Lia dance with the guy who is moving dangerously too close to her for my liking, when a , when a lady walks up to me and asks for a dance "no thank you" I say as politely as I can be. She still looks offended, she rolls her eyes and leaves. My eyes find Lia again and now she's looking back at me.
"What are you doing, you're just staring at me, you're not dancing" she says as she walks to me. I can hear her clearly because of my super hearing.
"I'm not in the mood" I reply
"Then you shouldn't have come" she says "you're just staring me down"
"Should we dance?" I ask and she laughs
"You're acting like it's a ball, being all stiff, if you're going to dance like that then no thank you"
"I'm smoother on the dance floor" I say and she scans me before walking back with a signal for me to follow her.
Soon we're back in the dance floor she's twerking and grinding me and I'm using all of me to restrain myself.
"Have you never been rocked by a woman?" She asks and grabs my hands putting it on her waist. I take a deep breath as I feel her waist, I want to go lower, hell I want to see everything. "You're so stiff Trevor, we can't do this" she says and that snaps me out of it.
"I won't be stiff" I reply swiftly. I don't know how she gets me like this, I've never felt this way with any woman before. This time when she starts dancing I make sure not to just think but to act.
So I'm feeling her up, bending her and bringing her closer to me. By the time our chests are touching and her breathing is heavy, the tension is palpable. I could dip my head down a bit and kiss her but she backs away. "Wow, that was crazy" she says still trying to catch her breath and the only thing I'm looking at now are her lips as they part slowly as she breaths faster.
She goes to get a drink and I follow, I don't know what's wrong with me but it's about to be a long time here, so I better be prepared.
