Never before had Barduff Castle been so vibrant. The Night Wind Pack's colors, blue and silver banners, glistened in the candlelight as they adorned the grand hall. The guests were bathed in a warm glow from the twinkling lanterns that lined the high archways. The rich aromas of the feast being prepared in the kitchens blended with the aroma of fresh roses and jasmine.
The Alpha of the Night Wind Pack, Jacob Barduff, was standing close to the front with Leah by his side, her hand resting lightly on his arm. In a deep emerald gown, she looked stunning, and the tension that hung over the celebration was reflected in her eyes as well as her joy. Serafina was shifting uneasily next to her, gripping the edge of her dress. They decided to enjoy the moment tonight despite the rumors of Edmund Boris's imminent attack spreading like wildfire throughout the castle.
Jacob's faithful Beta, Samuel Ordwolf, stood at the altar with his broad shoulders squared, but his dark eyes danced with nervousness. His best man, Darius, laughed when he made his third collar adjustment.
"Apprehensive?" Playfully nudging him, Darius teased.
Samuel let out a breath. "More than I had to deal with during the rogue invasion."
Darius gave him a back pat while laughing. "You'll be alright. She adores you.
Then Henrietta showed up, as though those words had called her.
The assembled members of the pack fell silent.
Her ivory gown glistened in the golden candlelight as she walked down the aisle. Her curls fell in gentle waves down her back, and her shoulders were framed by the delicate lace. There was nothing else there when her emerald-green eyes met Samuel's.
This was the result of every conflict, hardship, and obstacle they had encountered.
Samuel took Henrietta's hands in his, his hold firm but gentle, as she came to him. He whispered, "You are my heart," so softly that only she could hear.
The ceremony was modest but exquisite. The pack's elder talked about strength, solidarity, and the unbreakable bond of true mates. Samuel's voice faltered during the vows, but his words were utterly convinced.
"I promise to be by your side through every hardship, to treasure every second, and to love you forever."
"And I swear to be your peace in chaos, your light in darkness, and your partner in all things," Henrietta replied with a radiant smile.
A howl of unanimity and strength erupted from the pack as soon as their lips met. The bond between them flared with an undeniable power, sealing their love in the presence of their people.
Jacob watched with a rare smile, squeezing Leah's hand. She looked up at him, her expression a mixture of warmth and concern.
She muttered, "They deserve this."
Jacob acknowledged that they do, but his gaze strayed to the far-off shadows outside the castle walls. He was aware that the fight was far from over.
There was a lot of joy, dancing, and laughter during the celebration that followed. Lost in their love, Samuel and Henrietta spun around each other in the candlelight. For a brief moment, Serafina was able to put aside the nightmares that had followed her since her kidnapping and clap along to the music.
But despite the celebration, there was no denying the tension in the air. Edmund Boris's threat was getting closer and closer as war loomed in the distance.
But for tonight, they went with love.
Jacob's eyes returned to Leah and Serafina as Samuel drew Henrietta closer. Together, they would face whatever lay ahead. They would confront whatever awaited them together.
