Chapter 10: A Night in the Queen's Chamber
The throne room shimmered with residual energy.
Kael stood before the still-open portal, its edges flickering like fire on water. One step, and he would return to the mortal world.
But he didn't move.
Behind him, Velzaria still reclined atop the throne—her legs lazily crossed, wings tucked neatly behind her back, eyes half-lidded as she watched him.
"You linger," she said, almost teasing.
Kael turned, hands at his side. "Because I have questions."
She arched a brow. "Or cravings?"
"Both."
That made her smile.
"I like that honesty," she said, rising gracefully. "Follow me."
She stepped down from the throne once more, the air around her humming with ancient lust. She wore nothing now—no robe, no crown, no armor. Just a Queen in her bare glory, lit by firelight.
Kael followed.
The Private Sanctum
The deeper chambers of the Obsidian Tower were veiled in velvet and smoke. Incense curled through the air, thick with aphrodisiacal spice. Candles floated midair, casting soft gold over silken curtains and polished obsidian floors.
Velzaria's private chamber was alive with sensuality. Pillows arranged in decadent layers. A bed large enough for five, canopied in dark silk. Chains of silver and red crystal hung from the ceiling—not restraints, but decorations of a Demon Queen who ruled with both temptation and terror.
She stood at the edge of her bed and gestured.
"Ask your questions, human," she said, turning her back to him as she poured dark wine into a glass. "But do it while you serve me."
Kael stepped behind her.
Slid his hands to her shoulders.
And began to massage.
Her skin was warm, impossibly smooth, yet tingling with latent magic. Her breath caught as his thumbs moved down the curve of her spine, firm yet careful.
"You said I surprised you," Kael said. "What did you expect?"
She hummed. "Another lost soul. Another ambitious fool thinking they could tame me."
"And now?"
Velzaria turned slowly, her chest brushing his as she sipped from her glass.
"Now, I wonder if you're more dangerous than I am."
She leaned in.
"And that excites me."
The Queen's Game
Velzaria stepped back and flicked a claw. A low table appeared between them, with two cups, two dice, and a deck of shimmering red cards.
"A game?" Kael asked.
"A wager."
She sat cross-legged on a crimson cushion. "Win a hand, and I answer a question. Lose, and you obey a command."
Kael raised an eyebrow. "What kind of commands?"
She smiled slowly. "The kind that make you sweat."
He sat.
The cards were unlike anything mortal—a mix of fate, emotion, and elemental symbols. They glowed faintly in his hand. The dice pulsed with his heartbeat.
They played.
He lost the first round.
"Strip," she said softly.
He hesitated.
Then obeyed.
The next round, he won.
"What are the marks on my chest?"
Velzaria leaned forward. "Each one is a bond. A seal of passage through layers of Demon royalty. Three marks, three gates. Few ever reach the third. Fewer still earn it from me."
Another round.
Another win.
"Why me?"
Velzaria narrowed her eyes, as if reading him. "Because you weren't trying to win. You were trying to understand. Most men chase me for conquest. You…"
Her voice dipped lower.
"You touched me to see me."
Kael stared at her, his heart pacing. "You're lonely."
That made her freeze.
Then she stood.
"I tire of games."
Second Night, No Chains
Velzaria didn't pull him this time.
She invited.
Kael stepped into her arms as they fell onto the silken bed, limbs entwined. Their pace was slower now, deeper. No throne to press against. No test to pass.
Just heat.
Hands wandered. Kisses grew longer. Breaths mingled. Her voice whispered his name between gasps, no longer a Queen's command but a woman's desire.
When they joined again, it was not for dominance.
But closeness.
Her legs locked around him.
His hands cradled her hips.
Their rhythm was primal and tender. Her moans were real—soft, sharp, rising like music only they heard. The tower pulsed with magic, but there was no chaos. Only sync.
Her wings wrapped around him like a shield.
She arched, biting her lip to silence a scream.
He followed—holding her tight, his lips buried in her neck as they reached the peak together.
For a long moment, they didn't move.
Just breath and heartbeat.
Her voice broke the silence.
"…Stay."
Kael blinked.
Velzaria lay beneath him, glowing faintly in the candlelight.
"Stay the night," she whispered. "The rest can wait."
