Chapter 3 - Settling in

Gilgamesh was finally in his assigned room, resting on the bed with his arms spread out after having to listen Awakened Rock yap constantly.

He had walked out in the middle of his speech.

The room was sufficient, not too big, not too small, had all the things he might need along with some spare academy assigned clothes.

Rubbing his chin Gilgamesh started thinking. The first thing—of great importance mind you—that popped up in his mind was:

"I wonder how the memes of this world are. I hope that they are actually good, how else would I doomscroll without them. Hmm, does Instagram still exist in this world and what about YouTube?"

Picking up the communicator that had been provided to him, he connected to the Academy wifi.

To his delight, YouTube had somehow managed to persist against all odds, even after all the wars and shit that had happened in this world.

Deciding to use it later to see what happened to his favourite YouTubers, he placed it back on the table beside his desk.

Gilgamesh sighed and decided to check out the other thing that had been bugging him ever since he had seen it.

His Runes.

Willing them to appear, he clicked on his first Attribute, [Demigod].

[Demigod], Attribute Description: [Your senses and body are greatly enhanced. Indeed you are more God than human.]

"Simple enough I guess. But how enhanced are we talking."

Gilgamesh had noticed that he could see a lot more clearly than normal however he had suspected at the that was just an Awakened thing.

Instead he attempted to test his other senses instead.

Taking a deep breath he tried to smell the things far away from him.

At first he didn't notice anything however after focusing he realised that his body had been subconsciously ignoring all the smells that were coming from kilometres away.

Gilgamesh could smell the delicious smell of the food being prepared in the cafeteria, the smell of the shampoos and conditioners of the Sleepers in the other rooms, even their sweaty body odour and clothes.

Before Gilgamesh could start smelling their dirty underwears, he restrainted his sense of smell to a certain limit around himself.

Focusing on his hearing this time he tried to control it and hear the noises from the room beside his. He could hear the rustling of bedsheets, breath of the person in that room and even their heartbeat.

"Pretty neat, all of these would be a great help in the Dream Realm."

He started chuckling, almost feeling bad for all the Nightmare Creatures.

Next he clicked on [Golden Rule],

[Golden Rule], Attribute Description: [You are Lady Luck's favourite child. Fortune favours you.]

He was basically set in life with this Attribute, he'll never have to worry about money, or about getting Memories and Echoes, perfect for rewarding his faithful subjects.

"With this I'll probably land inside of Bastion when I enter the Dream Realm."

Laughing at his own incredibly good luck. He clicked on the next Attribute, [Anomaly].

[Anomaly], Attribute Description: [???]

"God damn, the spell sure is generous, giving me all this information." He muttered sarcasticly.

Deciding to not waste his brain power by trying to make sense of that Attribute, he clicked on the next one.

[King's Charisma], Attribute Description: [As a King, people are instantly attracted to the way you walk, talk and act. No matter what situation you find yourself in, the environment itself shall favour you.]

"Better watch out Piccolo, I'm coming for your position."

Shaking his head at his the reference with a smile, he clicked on the last Attribute.

[Flame of Divinity], Attribute Description: [Your soul is aflame with the light of divinity.]

He was pretty sure that it was that the description was as the original.

Finally, he moved on to the thing that he was truly interested in, his memories.

Memory: [Golden Armour]

Memory Rank: [???]

Memory Tier: [???]

Memory Type: [???]

Memory Description: [Made and worn by the great king of [UNKNOWN], [UNKNOWN]. It's golden plates are said to be nigh impenetrable, casting a brilliant light all around. Somehow, some way it has fallen into the hands of the Usurper, Wedge of Heaven.]

Memory Enchantments: [???], [???], [???], [???].

Gilgamesh was mildly concerned.

He was fairly certain that the Spell usually didn't mention the person in possession of the memory, nor did it call them an usurper.

"I'm fairly certain that the [UNKNOWN] is supposed to Uruk and then Gilgamesh. But why doesn't the Spell mention them? How did the Spell even get it's hand on it?"

He stared at the Runes for a moment with an indescribable look in his eyes.

"What's up with a question marks aswell, maybe it can't properly categorise them? But then what about the enchantments?"

Closing the page of [Golden Armour], he hovered his hands above [Sword of Rupture] for a few seconds before he finally opened it.

Memory: [Sword of Rupture]

Memory Rank: [???]

Memory Tier: [???]

Memory Type: [???]

Memory Description: [Forged in fire hotter than the code of the Sun by the God [UNKNOWN], this Divine Construct is truly one of it's kind. With the power of Heaven, Earth and the Underworld imbued in it, it has the potential to destroy the whole of cosmos itself. Initially used by [UNKNOWN], it has now somehow, someway fallen into the hands of the Usurper, Wedge of Heaven.]

Memory Enchantments: [???], [???], [???], [???], [???].

Conquered Foes: [0/10000]

He was starting to get annoyed.

Not only was this blasted Spell not telling him anything useful about his Memories but it was also disrespecting him to his face.

Laying on his bed rubbing his forehead due to the useless Spell, he considered what to do.

"Let's see, I gotta check out my Aspect Ability, check out the armour and the sword. Maybe not the sword till I have reached the Dream Realm atleast, also kill 10000 Nightmare Creatures with it."

The idea of awakening Ea from it's slumber just to check it out, or to use it against unworthy foes didn't sit well with him.

"Also, how am I able to see the the tier and enchantments of the memory even though I did not consume the Ichor of Weaver. Is it due to the [Demigod] Attribute?"

Opening the Runes again and reading the description of [Demigod] again with curiosity, he was fairly certain that it was due to it that he could see the tiers and enchantments.

Gilgamesh laid there on his bed, staring at the white ceiling without any thoughts.

Suddenly his stomach grumbled.

Realising that he hadn't eaten anything since the morning, he decided to go to the cafeteria.

Checking the time, it occured to him that he also had to give the interview for his Aspect.

Seeing that there was still half and hour left for that, he wasn't in a hurry.

Getting up from the bed, he wore his shoes, throwing one last look at his room as walked out, closing and locking the door behind him.

Since his room was located below the ground, the temperature was quite cold, even more so because it was night.

Walking through the hallway and stairs, accompanied only by the sound of his footsteps, he couldn't help but remember his childhood days in his mother's village.

Since her village was located at an high altitude, it was always cold there especially during the night. He still fondly remembered running throughout the land at night and then cozying under the warm thick sheets.

Gilgamesh still cherished all of those memories after all that had happened.

While he was lost in his memories, he had not realised that he had already reached the cafeteria.

Opening the door with one hand inside his pocket, he stepped inside.

The cafeteria was mostly empty, perhaps most of the people had already eaten and left.

He took the tray from the counter and loaded it up with food, his mind on autopilot.

When his tray was already filled with food, he finally broke out of his stupor and looked at it. He stood there looking at his food stupidly.

'I have filled my plate with things that I don't even like.'

Gilgamesh looked at the food in the tray dejectedly.

Deciding to eat it anyways, he looked up from his it and tried to find a place to sit.

Suddenly he saw Sunny animatedly waving at him from where she was sitting, gesturing him to sit beside her.

His mind made up, he started walking towards her.

Pulling his chair back and sitting next to Sunny, he looked at the mountain of food that she had piled up with a raised eyebrow.

"I have decided."

He said to her abruptly, picking up his fork and spoon.

"Whoumt-." Sunny looked at him owlishly face, her mouth stuffed full of food.

"You shall be the second-in-command of my Legacy Clan."

She looked at him stupidly, her cheeks puffed up with food.

Opening her mouth to speak while still chewing, she started choking.

Sighing, he patted her back helping her, "That's why you shouldn't speak while talking."

After a few moments, she stopped choking and looked at him with her cheeks colored red due to embarrassment.

"I never agreed to be your second-in-command."

"You will in the future."

"How do you know."

"I can tell."

Sunny stared at him wanting to say something, instead, she wisely decided to shut her mouth and started to gorge herself on the food.

Seeing that she had accepted her fate, he too decided to eat his food before it became cold.

...

Gilgamesh was standing in front of the office where he was supposed to give his interview.

He knocked on the door before entering inside without waiting for a response.

The office was pretty standard, white walls, few bookshelves and table a couch on the side and on chair empty infront of the table, facing the administrator.

He sat down on the chair and picked up a pen that was kept on the table.

"Can I borrow this."

He said holding the pen in his hand while looking at it.

The administrator, having delt with numerous Sleepers throughout his life, thought it was one of those ways of dealing with trauma and not wanting to trigger any sort of reaction, just nodded his head.

"Would you mind telling about the type of Aspect Ability you received, as in, combat, sorcery or utility."

"It's a..."

...

He was back in his room. Wearing a new pair of clothes after bathing.

Walking towards the table where he had kept the pen that he had borrowed, Gilgamesh picked it up.

Pen in hand, he headed towards the wardrobe where his clothes were kept. Caring the least about his police issued clothes, he picked it up and bought it towards the table.

Scanning the cloth, he tore a piece of cloth from the white part of the police issued clothes. Uncapping his pen, he stared at the cloth, his eyes glazed as if remembering a memory.

Without wasting another second, Gilgamesh wrote down a series of numbers on it.

His eyes flickered from left to right, checking if all the numbers were correct. Satisfied after triple checking the numbers on the piece of cloth, he reverently and gently put it in his pocket.

His task accomplished, Gilgamesh put the cap of the pen back on and put it back on the table.

With that he walked back towards the bed and laid down.

Shuting his eyes he allowed himself to rest, briefly thinking about his future plans.

It didn't take long for him to fall asleep.

...

He dreamt of screams, fire and humans with uncanny faces.
