Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

The weight of judgement

The silence in the court was louder than thunder.

The girl—still nameless in this world, still reeling—felt every eye pressing down on her like a crown too heavy for her skull.

They were waiting for her to speak. To judge.

> "Say the words," Jazmin said. "Declare him guilty. That's what's expected."

But I don't even know if he is.

> "You don't need to know. You only need to look like you do."

Her fingers twitched in her lap. Her stomach twisted. The man's gaze never left hers.

Why does he keep staring at me like that? Like he's expecting something different…

---

A cough echoed across the hall. One of the nobles shifted uncomfortably.

"You may speak, Your Highness," the steward said, voice carefully neutral.

She opened her mouth—and no words came.

I can't do this.

> "Then let me."

No.

The thought was sharp. She didn't know this world, or this man—but something inside her refused to let Jazmin take control again.

So she did the only thing she could think of.

"I request," she said slowly, "more time."

Murmurs broke out. Confused whispers bounced off the marble.

She stood up, voice steadier this time. "The charges are grave, and justice rushed is justice spoiled. I will review the accusations and evidence myself before judgment is passed."

A pause.

Then the steward bowed his head. "As you command, Your Highness."

---

The court was dismissed in a swirl of cloaks and whispers. The man was escorted away—not to execution, but back to his cell.

The girl collapsed into her seat the moment the doors shut.

> "Are you out of your mind?" Jazmin growled. "You just embarrassed me in front of the court!"

I'm trying to figure out what's happening! I won't sentence someone to death just because you said so!

> "This isn't your world. Your softness will destroy you here."

Then maybe your world needs some softness.

Silence.

For once, Jazmin didn't have a sharp reply.

---

Later, back in the royal chambers, she peeled off the layers of fabric and stood at the balcony. The city of Eurotopia shimmered below—sprawling spires, rivers of glass, and floating lights that drifted between towers.

It's beautiful… and terrifying.

Behind her eyes, Jazmin simmered.

> "You won't survive long like this."

We'll see, she thought.

Because one thing was clear now—whether this was her body or not, she was stuck in it.

And if this Empire wanted a princess, it would get one—but not the kind they expected.
