Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 - The Search

3:15 PM — The Warehouse, Still

Eva sat on the cold concrete floor, surrounded by blood.

Four more survivors—gone in under an hour.

She couldn't breathe.

Couldn't cry.

Couldn't scream.

Her fingers trembled over her phone screen as she typed the words: "Pier Seven Collapse – survivors list."

Thousands of articles.

None complete.

Some names were wrong.

Others were missing.

But there were survivors. More than she ever imagined.

Her fingers danced through online forums, archived footage, survivor interviews, even random hashtags.

Pier Seven wasn't a tragedy.

It was a massacre in slow motion.

And Death was just catching up.

4:40 PM – The Dead List

Eva opened a blank document on her phone and started compiling names.

Pier Seven escapees:

Alana Myers – found dead last month, crushed under scaffolding at a music festival.

Geoff Paxton – electrocuted in his apartment.

Renee P. – decapitated in a freak escalator malfunction.

Dominic Jace – car exploded at a gas station.

Tyra Boone – burned alive in a hotel fire.

Liam Cortez – strangled by gym equipment.

Nina Woods – elevator shaft fall.

Ralph E. – drowned in his own hot tub.

Theo Walters – head severed during a carnival ride.

And it kept going.

Some reports were suspicious.

Some never made headlines.

But Eva recognized their faces from crowd footage, interviews, background videos at the pier.

Death had been busy.

5:12 PM – Two Names Left

Just when she was ready to give up, something flickered in her memory.

A vlog.

A tourist video.

Two people laughing as the pier shook in the background.

She had watched it weeks ago, but their faces stayed with her.

She searched again.

Found it.

They were still alive.

Mark Moreno, 23 — DJ, lives in a beach house upstate. Had tweeted, "Still can't believe I ran off that pier just in time. Lucky af."

Suzie Zhang, 26 — worked at the aquarium. She was on break when the pier fell.

Eva's heart raced.

Two more.

Still breathing.

She stared at the video—Mark in aviators, Suzie sipping iced coffee.

Happy.

Alive.

She whispered:

"Not for long."

Then stood, dusted off her jeans, and packed her things.

She wouldn't let Death finish this.

Not without a fight.

6:02 PM – One Last Message

Before leaving the warehouse, Eva opened a livestream on her phone. Only three people tuned in.

That was fine.

She looked directly into the camera.

"My name is Eva Albright. If you were at Pier Seven that day, and you're still alive… Death is coming for you. This isn't over. I've seen it. You're not safe."

She stared hard.

"If you see this, Mark… Suzie… I'm coming to find you. Before it does."

She ended the stream.

And ran.
