THERON
When Fenrir noticed that Sienna was looking at our body, he smirked to himself.
["Let me talk to her!"]
["No. You want more than just to talk. I know you!"]
Yeah, I knew Fenrir all too well. Over ten years with him buzzing in my head—literally—was more than enough for me to learn all the tricks of that sly wolf.
["You talk like you're not dying to take this female. At least I'm not pretending otherwise!"]
Her electric blue eyes were locked on me, and I had to fight the urge to lick my lips. She looked delicious.
I stood up from my chair and walked over to Sienna. Her scent was already hard to ignore, but up close, it was pure temptation—like a grand feast laid out in front of a starving beast.
She was lying. I doubted she'd ever worked with humans. They didn't just throw themselves at others—imagine a wolf having to deal with those complicated creatures?
She didn't seem to have a last name. And any human would've asked for a full name, especially for a job in administration.
Just as I was about to ask her about that, Sienna simply checked out. She didn't have a wolf, so she wasn't talking to her animal side. How dare she?
["It's because you're boring!"] Fenrir said, and I mentally flipped him off.
I waved a hand in front of Sienna's face, and she blinked, coming back down to earth. I didn't like how she'd spaced out. What had she been thinking about while talking to me? Was she remembering some other male? Is that what this was about?
I didn't know why, but that possibility irritated me—as if I were about to lose… what? What exactly would I be losing? The attention of a rogue?
I decided to provoke her, because I liked how she reacted.
"Do I make you nervous, Sienna?"
Every letter of her name slid off my tongue with a smoothness that felt almost indulgent, like just saying it allowed me to taste something of her.
That female liked playing with fire, because she turned toward me—and my whole body tensed. All of it. Was she trying to provoke me, speaking in that calm voice and leaning forward like that?
"Seems I'm not the only one who's nervous. Though I'm guessing for different reasons."
Fenrir didn't wait—he seized control and pinned her against the table, one hand on her throat, the other grabbing her leg. She let out a muffled sound and—damn it—I wanted her! She was unbearable, with that sharp tongue far too bold for that pretty face, but there was no denying it: she was extraordinary. The most striking female I had ever laid eyes on in my entire damned life.
"You're way too bold!" Fenrir growled, pulling her thigh up and positioning us between her legs, without pressing our body against hers. "Is this what you want?"
My wolf ran his nose along Sienna's neck, and that set off an alarm in my mind. Then she started to struggle, as if panicking, fighting for her life. Fenrir let her go and handed control back to me.
"Don't provoke me if you're not ready to follow through, Sienna. I'm no saint—especially not when an attractive female is alone with me, practically begging me to make a damn move."
I stepped back, of course.
Sienna's hair had fallen into her face and, paired with the redness in her cheeks, she was a sight to behold.
"You're going to help me here, in administration, where I can keep an eye on you. I hope you actually know how to handle this kind of work, because I hate mistakes—I hate wasting my time."
"Why don't you assign me to work with the omegas, then?"
There she was, challenging me again.
Sure, I could've sent her to the omegas—but then I wouldn't have full control over her. And I had already made that clear. Still, after her little outburst... Sienna didn't notice, but she muttered a name—a male's name, though I couldn't quite catch it. Fenrir was furious when he heard it, feeling betrayed. That's why he handed control back to me. I would keep an eye on her—for the safety of the pack, and for her own.
In time, I'd uncover every secret Sienna kept hidden. Only then, and only then, could I consider letting her go.
"Because I wouldn't have control over you there. Or do you not want to work as my assistant? Or perhaps…" I stepped closer, watching as she drew in a sharp breath and held it, "you have something else in mind when it comes to serving me?"
Her face went pale at first, which was honestly kind of funny. Then it flushed a deep red, all the way to her hairline.
"How dare you ask me something like that?" She slid off the table and pointed a finger at me. She was about to cross a line. "Who do you think you are, to imply I'd serve you in any way?"
I narrowed my eyes and let a smile creep onto my face. She really was fire.
"I didn't imply anything. I only said you could do something else for me, if you don't want to work as my assistant in admin."
She stepped closer, tilting her head up to meet my eyes, due to our height difference. Perfect height to pin her to the wall and—
"Don't play dumb! You and I both know exactly what you meant! I'd rather scrub floors than stoop to that!"
I saw something shift in her expression. Hurt. Deep hurt. And I couldn't help but wonder—what had happened to her? Who had done that? Fenrir growled again. He didn't like seeing Sienna in pain. What was his deal? Was he in love or something?
["Probably the same guy who sent Hunters after her!"]
Could be.
"That's what you're saying, not me. I was talking about you looking after my personal space, Sienna. Maybe you're the one having inappropriate thoughts about me."
"Oh, give me a break!" she huffed—but I saw the moment her energy dropped, and Sienna fainted. I caught her just in time.
Of course, I took her to the hospital. She'd just been discharged and now she was already collapsing?
"We'll check into it, Alpha," one of the nurses said. Could she be pregnant? I hadn't caught any scent—but if it were the pup of another Alpha, the scent would be masked from other wolves… to protect the female and the child.
