Chapter 3 - The Star Fire Pack

"And what do you think you are doing?"

Such a simple question, the growl that pushed it out, and the authoritative intent that laced it caused the werewolves in the immediate area to quake and feel an urge to prostrate before her.

But they knew her all too well. She did not like kowtowing just because you were forced to. She liked strength even the strength to stop and not obey another but to push through and follow your own will.

Amber's eyes glistened as they narrowed. She allowed her canines to elongate as another growl softly rumbled up from her gut. She looked intently at the offending werewolf. Her intent, power, and will turning him into subservient mush.

But still he did not answer. She admired that. She could hear him continually swallowing and she knew it was not due to fear. He was swallowing back retorts.

"Do you not have an answer? Do you not practice with me everyday? Do I not instruct you? Do you feel that I do not do my best to instruct you? Do you feel that I am an inadequate teacher?

"Is this how you feel?"

As she had asked question after question she moved closer and closer to him until she was almost nose to nose with him.

"Fine. You do not have an opinion. You will train with me for the rest of the month or until your form improves."

She turned her head and narrowed her eyes, her gaze never leaving his.

"Is that clear?"

He swallowed hard. He knew that he had to answer.

"Yes Alpha."

"Good."

She looked at all of the assembled male and she wolves.

"That's enough for today. Everyone here two hours early tomorrow. We will work on form."

With her last word she looked at the trainee she had just reprimanded.

"We will be here early and we will work on form and I do not want to hear any grumbling or whining. If that is what you have in you keep it in you. I do not want any of that anywhere in my complex."

She allowed her glance to rake over them and she saw a few tremble.

"Dismissed!"

And she turned and walked away without a second glance at them. Training had run on too long and she had three disputes to hear. She walked to her audience chamber with long measured strides.

"Alpha. You could go a bit easier on them. They are young."

"And I am not? You know what is happening in Dark Howl. When he is finished with then he is coming for us. Do you want to see all those people lying dead across some random battlefield? " her tone had gotten that forceful quality she often slipped into and she quickly turned when she heard whimpering. Two maids were cowering against a wall. Her eyes went wide and she forcibly calmed.

"I am so sorry. Are you okay?" She was beside them in a second. Her Delta at her side.

"It's… okay… Alpha."

"we are fine ma'am.

She almost rolled her eyes. She could not be worried about such things but she fought to not be so heartless as well. She knew very well the stronger the werewolf the less humanity they had. It was the goal of the strongest werewolves to always maintain that balance. Something inside her paused as she realized that was something her father had taught her.

Werewolves burned their dead because their corpses were prizes for many and they believed that this released the soul so that the wolf was free to roam and thusly never truly be dead.

Although their dead were burned their names were always written om the pack's sacred walls. Star Fire pack's sacred walls were in the mountains behind Whitehaven.

She thought that she may need to go burn an incense at the wall for her parents later.

She looked to one of her personal Deltas. "Make sure they are both okay."

The man bowed. "As you wish Alpha."

She was off before he had actually performed the bow. Adonis fell in line a smirk on his face.

'Why is my Beta always smirking?'

'Because I am a happy person.'

Because Star Fire Pack had three powerful Psi Amber and Adonis could speak to each other telepathically. The Psi rotated the responsibility of allowing them the use of the ability. Because they both had such strong souls it was easy to lay the ability over their souls and then their souls were able to easily utilize the ability.

Amber was sitting and listening to a dispute that was utterly ridiculous. She was barely holding on to her temper.

'Everyone can feel that you are about to blow. Try to calm yourself.'

'It is good that they sense it because they need to behave better than this. Arguing like this over the name of a child.'

'It is about tradition.'

'Don't bring you and Cris into this.'

Adonis side. 'Try to have more patience or empathy.'

'Both are overrated and unneeded.'

"You both are going to compromise. Neither one of you is even the actual parent. Either share in the naming or give the child more names. There are wolves in our city who have four and five names. This is not tradition but it is not frowned on either."

The mother and father of the child smiled at each other. Obviously happy with the decision.

Once she finished she immediately looked passed them. "Next."

Adonis smirked and shook his head.

After settling three more disputes in the same way she and Adonis handle paperwork.

"You know, if your soulmate is going to behave in this way it is time for you to decide on a mate. Your in the stages of heat and you are going to have to have a baby eventually."

Amber stopped reading and looked up at her brother. She didn't say a word and felt very satisfied when she heard him swallow hard.

"Stop pestering me Adonis."

"I am just saying that we should have a true tournament and the winner will be…"

Her killing intent flared and even Adonis found it hard to breathe. There was a knock on the door.

"Are you okay Alpha." It was her head Theta, Russ.

"Yes Russ. Adonis just wants to die. Would you like the Beta position."

"Your will is my command my Alpha."

"Russ!"

"For the good of the Pack cub."

Amber smiled.

"Fine. Plan this tournament but I want it to be a full one and when no werewolf can be found I want you to drop all this."

"Yes Alpha. As you wish Alpha."

"I have Killed sarcastic curs like you without a thought."

"But isn't my sarcasm enduring?"

"Please do not make me kick you out. I want you to help with this."

Once again a smirk found Adonis' face but this time he kept quiet. He knew his sister's breaking point all too well. He had a few scars to prove it.
