Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

Disappointed

Jasmine's POV

"Dad! They are taking mum away!" I cried out. I tried to reach for her but dad stopped me. "Dad wait I need to —" he held me as I watched them carry mum's body to where they had kept the others. I wept like a baby. I was inconsolable. After a while I wiped my eyes and began to look around

The pack was a shadow of itself. The buildings had turned to debris, everywhere was just a mixture of stone, ash and slowly burning smoke. The high rise buildings, the cars and most especially the people were gone. Burnt with the ashes.

"Put out all the fires" Dad instructed some guards and so they tried to salvage the remnants of the war. I watched as people wept. Some people had lost everyone in their family. I still had my dad and for that I was grateful.

Dad gathered us all together for a briefing. We were not much remaining but we were still a pack. We were the blood moon pack. I looked up at the eat id left of out pack town square. Where my dad was standing and tears ran freely down my cheeks.

"We are deeply sorry for not being able to protect you" He began with a shaky voice. And then just like one body present, absent minded I listened to dad.

"…. We lost 1500 lives including the alpha, his wife and his heir…" people burst into fresh tears and dad spoke. At the end of is spend, I ran to him and wrapped my arms around him. Even though he was now the alpha, who had great responsibility on his shoulders, he was still my father and he too lost his wife.

After we mourned and buried the dead, we began to clean up. We were very exhausted by the time we were. I walked into our now house, only to hear sniffs. I narrowed my eyes. Who was it?

I made my way to the sitting room and there he was. Crying. Something snapped in me. Seeing my father, the pillar of the house cry. There was always something heartbreaking seeing the strong cry

"Dad are you okay? Tell me what could it be?" I wiped his eyes, and as I did that, I knew I would do anything in my power, to never see my father like this. Daddy wiped his eyes and then calmly tells me that the silver moon pack would be back tonight.

"What?" I whispered. He nodded. What sort of heartless people are this? I swallowed. "Dad is there anything we can do to stop the fighting?"

Dad went quiet. He looked at his hands and back at me. Instantly I knew what had to be done.

"Alright dad, I know I have to marry him"

"Thank you sweetheart for saving our family and the pack" he wrapped his arms around me and I nodded. "You will go with Scarlett.

"All done" said the makeup lady.

"Thank you" I muttered. I looked into the mirror and staring back at me was a girl I couldn't recognize. Hollow eyes. Puffy red eyes.

All was set for my wedding with the son of the alpha of the silver moon.

To quench the war between us the blood moon and silver moon pack, they demanded some things which included a marriage between the two packs. The alpha and his daughters were dead and as the daughter of beta, it fell on me to do just that. To go from mourning and straight into celebration was something I never thought was possible. I looked around and grabbed the shawl off the chair. I sniffed it and tears pooled at my ears. Mum would never ad allowed me get married now. She would always tell dad that there was always other ways to do this. If only she was here. If only.

A knock sounded from the door.

"Come in" I said in a croaky voice as I hurried wiped my face clean.

"Your highness, we are ready to leave" it was Scarlett, my personal maid.

"I'll be out in a minute" I replied.

She nodded and left the room.

I tried to fix the mess my tears had done. When I was through, I think I was quite presentable. The ride to the silver moon was a short one. Because we were literally neighbors. By the time we arrived, the party had already began.

"We've been waiting" Robert, the alpha gave me this spooky smile. I nodded. Then the wedding began.

Lucas, was a young devilishly handsome man. I hoped he was way better than he looked. I nursed that thought until I saw him shove a maid aside and she fell.

As we went round at the procession ground in the dark, it began to rain. It was perfect to hide my tears. 2 hours later, I was married. The ritual quick. Sterile. Say a few words, repeat in the appropriate places, and ten Lucas slipped a ring on my finger and brushed his lips against my cheeks.

The elders and royal family offered their congratulations before Lucas ushered me from the building and into the chambers.

"I'll be right back" Lucas said with a tight smile. I nodded.

My heart pounded as I awaited what would be my fate. Horrendous stories of first nights rang fresh in my head but absolutely nothing got me prepared for what I was to face.

I took a seat by the wall waiting for Lucas. I stared at the 3 carat gold on my finger and went numb. And just like that I was married.

The banging of the door made me jump. I turned around to find Lucas. He had a stern expression on his face. I couldn't tell what he was thinking.

"Get out!" he spat

"What?"

"Don't let me repeat myself"

I turned around to find guards outside the room, ready to throw me out if I dared to disobey.

And so I walked with my head bowed low and went to stay outside, directly under the moon. I made a little pillow with my jacket and used my mother's shawl and covered myself.

Just as I took in a deep breath, ready to close my eyes, thunder rumbled in a distance and it began to rain.
