Synopsis
Ashes and Rain At Ardenleigh University, where legacy and power rule the halls, Sebastian Ashford is untouchable—rich, brilliant, and feared. A second-year medical student with a cold smile and a ruthless streak, Sebastian hides a dangerous obsession: Rain Wang, the scholarship student with the midnight-black hair and fierce intelligence who doesn’t belong in his world. Rain is used to fighting for every inch. From a struggling background, she’s clawed her way into Ardenleigh on sheer talent and grit. But Sebastian’s bullying isn’t just cruel games—it’s a desperate, twisted plea for attention from a boy who doesn’t know how to ask for love. As Sebastian’s torment escalates, Rain’s quiet strength is tested like never before. With every insult and cold glance, the line between hatred and desire blurs. But love built on ashes can’t last without rain—and when the truth finally breaks through, both must decide if redemption is possible, or if they’re doomed to burn alone.

Chapter 1 - The Puppy with the Knife

Sebastian

She didn't belong here.

And I mean that in the most literal, visceral way.Ardenleigh University—the crown jewel of British academia, the birthplace of prime ministers and prodigies—did not make space for stray girls with worn-out backpacks and eyes too soft for this place.

And yet… there she was.

I saw her just after morning rounds, on the marble steps of the medical wing. Everyone else was moving fast, blazers fluttering, textbooks clutched tight. But she stood still, like time had forgotten her. Her head tilted slightly as she squinted up at the gothic archways, lips parted like she was seeing magic instead of cement and centuries of elitism.

She looked like a lost puppy.A stupid, pretty little thing dropped into the lion's den.

Except—there was something off. Something sharper beneath all that softness.

Her hair was black. Not just dark—black. Thick, straight, impossibly long, trailing behind her like a veil or a warning. It brushed her thighs as she walked, every movement fluid and too graceful for someone that small. And her eyes—they were the kind of eyes you didn't expect to find in a place like this. Wide. Curious. Honest.

God, I hated honest eyes.

She looked directly at me. She shouldn't have. But she did.I was halfway down the steps, frozen mid-step, coffee in hand. And she just—looked. Like I was any other student. Like she didn't know who I was.

And I swear to God, something in me snapped.

Because Rain Wang didn't know who I was. Not yet.But I was about to make damn sure she never forgot me.

There's something cruel about the way Ardenleigh eats people alive. The campus is a cathedral of expectations—of family names and ruthless ambition. But she walked through it like she hadn't read the rulebook. No designer handbag, no polished laugh, no fawning over the Ashford name. Just that innocence, blinding and unforgivable.

She asked someone for directions. He ignored her. She smiled anyway.

I watched her walk in the wrong direction.

And I followed.

Just for a moment. Just to be close. Just to hear the click of her shoes against the pavement and pretend she didn't make my chest feel like it was cracking open from the inside.

It wasn't love. Not yet.But it was something worse.

It was interest. And when I'm interested, I consume.

She'd learn that.Because Rain Wang didn't belong here. And I don't let misplaced things go unnoticed. Not when they shine like that. Not when they dare to look at me like I'm not a god in this kingdom.

She's going to hate me.

She's going to fear me.

And one day—she's going to need me.

I'll make sure of it.
