CRIME FIGHTERS UNITE IN BATTLE TO UPHOLD LAW
Chicago, 11-21-30 - Alcock Heads Organization Formed at U. of C.
BY PHILIP KINSLEY
The Chicago regional group of the Association of Law Enforcement officers of America was organized yesterday at the University of Chicago to meet the challenge of crime. Its first action was to elect Alcock, Police Commissioner of Chicago, president and endorsing the new code of criminal identification and investigation. The details of the program were not made public but it was learned that the group hopes to obtain a considerable amount of money to finance its work. It was made known today that the Chicago group is the first of many similar groups to be formed throughout the country. The details of their experiences with law enforcement and criminal identification were discussed. Later Attorney Crain offering full cooperation to the new organization said that the police department of his company will be presented to the new organization.

This is a newspaper clipping from the Washington Post, dated November 22, 1930, with the headline "CAPONE TO BE TRIED AS TAX LAW EVADER." The article reports that Al Capone will be indicted and tried for income tax evasion. It mentions that U.S. officials are pushing for the indictment and court action, quoting a high official, and that Hoover is "waging war on gangs".
The article details that several of Capone's associates will testify against him, including Ralph Capone, Frank and Pete Gusenberg, and Jack Guzik. Jack Guzik had been convicted on charges this week and would be sentenced soon. The article also mentions that Attorney George E. Q. Johnson had been working on the case and was confident of securing a conviction. The article suggests that Capone, along with others who were elected and protected, had not reckoned with the Treasury Department.
