Chapter 10 - Reunion

Scot:

I had made up my mind not to see the face of my father again.

At least not for now. I was still angry at him for keeping such a secret from me.

But Clark wouldn't let me sleep in peace. Instead, he barged into my room, tugging my blanket from my chest.

I would have loved to spend the whole day sleeping and doing nothing else, but he just wouldn't stop.

"I'm not going! Just leave me alone," I yelled with sleepy eyes, covering my head with the pillow to avoid the bright morning sun penetrating my eyes."Wake up, arsehole."

He slapped my arm, dragging the pillow from me. "If you're going to stay in my house, you've got to play by my rules."

"Whatever, I'm leaving after today," I shoot back. It's been two days already, and I know after my apology, my residence will be free from pestering reporters hungry to pounce on any kind of information that comes their way.

"You know Vanessa is going to be there, right? You can't let her be there by herself; you should be with her."I know I'm supposed to be with her.

I wouldn't want her to be all by herself. I've been away from her for too long, and I'm not planning on leaving her again.

She is my wife now, and she deserves to be with me in my house.

I apologised for my brutality towards the young man who tried to rob me, not because I thought it was the right thing to do or because my father had asked me to do it, but because I didn't want her to see me as a monster who can't control himself when angry.

"Fine!… I'll have to call Lahm to get me some clothes.

Yours is quaint-looking," I said, getting out of bed.Clark raised a brow as if I had just devalued his fashion sense.

"Suit yourself. I'll be downstairs making breakfast in case you need me, he said and then walked out.As soon as he left, I called Lamh before going into the bathroom to shower.

Clark's mansion has similar decorations to mine but more flowers, which I hate for some reason. Although his mansion is big, he has only one housekeeper and a chauffeur.

The house is empty but peaceful.*****We arrived at the venue looking like two secret agents on a mission. We were both wearing black suits, and Clark had his sunglasses on as usual.

I hate that he loves wearing those. We walked into the auditorium.

The place was crowded, and I couldn't help but feel uneasy as I caught sight of different successful businessmen who filled the place.I scan the place, looking for Vanessa.

She is the only reason I had agreed to come to this stupid place.

So I left Clark and went ahead to look for her."Hey… Scotty!"

I turned around to see a stout middle-aged man with grey hair, along with my dad, making their way towards me.I glared at them until they finally got to me.

"How are you doing, son?" the man said, stretching his hands to shake me.

Instead of returning his handshake, I shoved my hands into my pocket.

"Don't you remember who I am? I'm Vanessa's father, he introduced himself. I know who he is… The greedy old man who was willing to sell his own daughter all because he wanted to conserve his dying company.

"I know who you are," I retorted with a straight face, devoid of any emotions.

"I saw you on the news… That was brave of you, the man said, withdrawing his hand and shoving them into his pocket.

My eyes shifted, scanning the huge hall for any signs of Vanessa.

It was really hard to find her, seeing how the hall was flooded with people. "Uhm, I have to leave now." I would have said, 'It was a pleasure meeting you, Vanessa's father,' but it wasn't. I proceeded to leave immediately to avoid any more engagements.

I searched through the crowd, but there were still no signs of Vanessa; just when I was about to give up… I finally sighted her from afar; she was also weaving through the crowd; it looked like she was searching for someone… Just maybe that someone was me; I felt a tinge of pleasure within me.

"If it isn't Scot Greyson…"'What now?'A woman appeared out of nowhere; I would have snickered because her makeup looked like it was designed by a clown, but I fixated my eye on Vanessa, not wanting to lose sight of her.

"The son of a billionaire tycoon married to my daughter – ahh, good stuff…" It was Shirley Brown; she smiled broadly.

"Oh, you mean step daughter. "I cut her short immediately.

"Whatever. Well, if you don't mind, we could have a chit-chat over a drink." I felt her grip around my arm as she began to slowly lead me on."Some other time," I replied quietly. "Oh well…"

She finally let go of her tight grip; I could see the disappointment on her countenance.I didn't wait to hear the rest of it; Vanessa was already leaving the hall, and I wove my way through the sea of bodies as I went after her.

I kept my head down while moving through the crowd.

I wouldn't want to bump into anyone again.I left the auditorium and walked straight for a while.

I lost sight of her, I kept moving.

There was a water fountain to my right, and ahead of me was a door.

Vanessa must have entered there…As I pushed open the room door, my eyes scanned the room.

 It was dimly lit.

I figured it was a restroom. I stepped inside, my eyes adjusting to the darkness. My jaw dropped at what I saw.

There was Vanessa, and she wasn't alone...She was with a man.
