Chapter 2 - Peonies

I went to the garden behind our house after the quietest breakfast I've ever had.

There were lots of flowers—pink, purple, and even yellow ones. But my favorite of them all are the pink peony flowers. Ever since I was a child, we've had them in our garden because my mom knew they were my favorite.

I'm really thankful to my mom because she never neglected us. Even though I know she sometimes feels sad since we've spent our entire lives here on the farm—watching over the farmers who grow watermelons, pineapples, apples, and all kinds of fruits. Our farm is huge. We also have chickens, pigs, cows, and many other animals.

Honestly, even after all this time, I've never fully explored it. It's just that big. We live so far from the city. Just one huge farm with one big house in the middle of it. Our home.

I remember I've only been to the city once. My parents said we were visiting a friend of theirs who passed away. I don't remember much about that day. What stuck with me were the tall buildings—so tall I felt like my neck was going to break from looking up! And all the different lights around. That's all I really remember, probably because it was so different from life on the farm.

"Hey."I jumped at the unfamiliar voice and almost fell into my mom's plants. Damn it!

"You look so surprised!"Ah, it's Andreis. What does he want now!?

"I just didn't recognize the voice. Anyway, what do you need?" I said while walking toward the brown mells hanging chair near the sliding door to the house. The white pillows on it looked so clean, I couldn't help but sit down. I could feel through my peripheral vision that Andreis was still looking at me. Why do I feel like this? I looked into his eyes—those eyes that felt like they could melt you. Blue like the ocean. I couldn't take it. His eyes were beautiful. I quickly looked down at my feet. Why did I wear these flats?! Ugh.

"Ah, nothing. Don't you remember me?" he said while smiling, his dimples showing on both cheeks.

"Huh? Do we know each other?"He nodded, hands in his pockets, still smiling. I looked at him, trying to figure out what he meant. Even though he was just wearing black pants and a white polo top, he still had this strong presence. Just like Marco—both of his arms were full of tattoos. I wonder how he knows Marco... and even my dad?

I had so many questions in my head, I didn't even notice how long I had been staring at him. He was staring back at me too, still smiling.

"Andreis! You ready?" Marco shouted as he came out the sliding door, carrying what looked like a laptop bag."Yeah. I was just asking Mia if she remembers me. But it looks like she doesn't," he laughed, then walked toward Marco."She won't remember you, bro. I think she has Alzheimer's. She even forgets to shower sometimes," Marco laughed loudly.I rolled my eyes at the two of them. I saw Andreis laughing too while shaking his head and throwing his arm around Marco's shoulder.

As they were walking back toward the house, Marco suddenly stopped."Stay here, okay? And don't talk to anyone. Don't be stubborn." Then he turned and left.
