Last time, Russell single-handedly wiped out the entire alien army with ease. The Flaxans couldn't possibly have spent decades thinking this time they could handle him with just this.
His gaze shifted toward the center protected by the infantry legion, where he noticed a special unit carrying water-tank-like equipment connected to water guns in their hands.
As soon as they entered Earth's atmosphere, the special units began spraying a gray, sludge-like substance over the ground in front of them. It was difficult to tell what its purpose was.
Civilians were running for their lives, while the infantry and tank war vehicles passed over them, leaving no sign of disruption.
"An unknown substance specially deployed on the ground?" Russell had a hunch—this was the secret weapon the Flaxans had developed specifically for him.
After the last alien invasion ended in a complete defeat for the Flaxans, they had suffered heavy losses. No one had expected them to attempt another invasion the very next day.
The number of people in the city center was even higher than last time, with some holding memorials for the civilians who had lost their lives.
It took Russell a second or two to evacuate all the civilians from the gray-sludge-covered ground. Now, only a handful of people remained, stuck in the sludge near the alien army.
"Be careful, 'he's' coming!" In the blink of an eye, all the Earthlings in sight vanished. The commanders of the Flaxan army tightened their expressions, raised their hands, and signaled for the troops to go into alert.
But with their reaction speed, being on alert wouldn't make much of a difference.
Whoosh!
As he stepped outside the gray sludge zone, Russell squatted down and dipped his finger into the substance, curious to study it. Even for him, the motion was so fast that it seemed almost effortless.
The moment his finger touched the gray sludge, it was met with a high-speed impact that altered the substance's properties, causing an extremely strong adhesive force!
It was like supercharged glue. Russell had to exert a bit of strength to pull his finger back from the ground.
"A non-Newtonian fluid?" Russell murmured.
He stood up and squinted at the gray mud that covered the ground under the Flaxan army, instantly realizing what the aliens had been up to.
Non-Newtonian fluids are substances that respond differently depending on the force applied. In simple terms, the stronger the force they experience over a short period, the stronger the fluid becomes.
The Flaxans had developed this gray mud specifically to counter him. Its properties were similar—when impacted, it became even stickier and more resistant!
"With this gray substance, I can't use my previous method of creating a tornado at super speeds to deal with this army. Even running at high speed through them would be extremely difficult."
"They really went all out to counter me!"
His super speed couldn't be so easily neutralized. Even without stepping on the ground where the Flaxans were stationed, Russell had many ways to indirectly exhaust their strength and wipe them out.
However, in this situation, he had a more direct solution.
Russell lifted off the ground and flew into the air.
"—Switch template!"
[Current Template: War Woman.
Abilities: Flight, immortality, super strength, super speed, super defense...]
Russell soared through the air, rescuing the remaining civilians, and Mark and the others soon arrived.
"Russell?"
"Be careful, the gray mud on the ground can stick to people with super speed," Russell turned his head slightly to warn them, and Eve and the others nodded, signaling they understood.
"He... he can fly?"
Looking up at the figure hovering in the sky, the Flaxan commanders' eyes widened, their hearts skipping a beat. It felt as though an invisible hand had grabbed their hearts, and the blood in their veins seemed to freeze.
Had all their decades of meticulous planning been for nothing?
"No, fire at him! Kill that person!"
The commanders roared, giving orders in fury.
Whirr whirr whirr!
One by one, the tank cannons charged, aiming at Russell. He dodged a barrage of lasers and flew toward them, grabbing the barrel of one tank and swinging it like a baseball bat, smashing another tank with it.
Tanks weighing dozens of tons felt like moderate-weight hammers in his hands. His immense strength allowed him to lift the tanks and charge toward other heavy war machines.
"We're going in."
Eve and the others each took action.
Duplicate Kate created seven or eight clones and charged toward the alien army.
Explosive Rex used the metal rods on his belt, utilizing his ability to charge inorganic objects to make the rods explode like mini dynamite sticks, blowing away several Flaxan soldiers.
Robot, with his steel body, engaged in hand-to-hand combat, knocking down several soldiers. He fired small missiles from his shoulder, bombing the alien forces.
The most noticeable of all was Atom Eve. She soared into the air, her hair floating as though blown by an invisible wind. Her eyes glowed pink, and she unleashed massive energy blades that cleaved through the enemies.
Unfortunately, just as the Teen Team started to show their strength, the Flaxans had already prepared countermeasures.
Explosive Rex and Duplicate Kate were both forced to retreat, bombarded by laser fire from the Flaxan infantry.
Some soldiers raised their rifles and fired electric alloy nets to entangle Robot, sending powerful electric currents coursing through him. He short-circuited and collapsed, unable to move.
Whish whish whish!
Another team of soldiers fired electric alloy nets at Eve, who was hovering in the air, covering her with suppressive fire.
Eve unleashed energy waves to destroy some of the nets, but she was soon ensnared. The electric shock knocked her unconscious, and she fell from a height of twenty meters toward the hard ground below.
"Eve!"
Mark, having just stepped into the bloody battlefield—so different from his previous small-scale battles with supercriminals—found himself overwhelmed. Despite his impressive stats, his combat experience was nearly nonexistent. He especially wasn't prepared for the violence.
He managed to knock some alien soldiers off their feet with a series of well-placed punches, but he was soon overwhelmed by five or six tank lasers targeting him.
"Too many… I can't handle all of them, but…"
He hesitated, his gaze darting around at the dense mass of alien soldiers. Seeing Eve in danger pushed him over the edge.
"No! Eve!"
Mark's eyes widened, and finally, he unleashed his full power, slamming his fist into the ground.
It was like a miniature earthquake—the ground shattered, and a massive crack appeared, causing several tanks to lose their footing and topple over. Dozens of alien soldiers were sent flying by the shockwave.
In an instant, Mark reached Eve's side and caught her in his arms.
"Grayson?"
Eve groggily opened her eyes, staring up at Mark's face, so close to hers. Realizing she was in his arms, her cheeks flushed slightly, and she quickly averted her eyes. There was an awkward, ambiguous air between them.
Boom! Boom! Boom… Crack!
The sound of metal bending and smashing echoed as Russell crushed the last of the main laser tanks with his bare hands, casually discarding the broken cannon barrel.
"Mark, what are you doing?"
Russell turned around to see the two of them surrounded by laser fire, standing there with an oddly intimate atmosphere. He slapped his forehead in exasperation.
Despite their slight weaknesses, Rex and Kate at least maintained a proper mindset.
But Mark? On the battlefield, he either hesitated and held back or let his feelings distract him when the girl he liked was in danger.
