Chapter 14 - New Weapon

Knowing where the weapons were, Alan packed all the remaining ammunition into his backpack.

As Bob had said, there were several AR-15s, some sniper rifles, and numerous handguns. Alan didn't overlook the bulletproof vests, extra magazines, and knives that were in the evidence room.

Unfortunately, there were far fewer weapons than he had hoped to find.

But Bob's words weren't entirely true; there was much more ammunition than Alan had expected to find.

Of course, he didn't leave anything behind.

These days, it's more difficult to go out into the streets, especially because the infected could be lurking. Alan wasn't concerned about one or two of them; what he feared were the hordes.

"It's time to head back," Alan muttered, taking the opportunity to fill his empty bags with magazines for his modified AR-15, pistols in their holsters, and knives.

Then, his attention turned to a bow with arrows that was in the testing room. It looked more like a professional bow, but this one seemed to have been modified.

For Alan, this bow was perfect for taking down infected.

Since he had learned archery as a child, using it now shouldn't cause him too many problems.

"Well..." Seeing that he still had time, Alan tried shooting with the modified bow several times inside the storage room, and it turned out to be quite powerful.

The metal arrows could penetrate four to five centimeters into a wooden table. Alan found more than fifty arrows of various types.

Nowadays, arrows were better than bullets; they could also be recovered after use. He also found several police tactical uniforms, a set of knee and elbow pads.

Finally, Alan would be able to change into much cleaner clothes.

He modified his backpack so he could draw the arrows from his back, like an ancient quiver. Then he placed the fire axe horizontally on top, with the blade facing outward. He stored the pistol in the jacket pocket for quick access.

His rifle would always be slung on his body, allowing him to grab it quickly and react more efficiently.

With these weapons, Alan felt much better prepared. That's why he could safely stop by Bob's house to see if he found anything.

"Bow and arrows, who would have thought?" Alan murmured with an ironic smile.

Alan spent the day at the police station. He went out to clear the infected from the surrounding area to test the effectiveness of the bow. His biggest advantage was the low noise level. However, Alan discovered that the reality was far different from what he had imagined.

At first, the arrows only reached the infected but didn't stop them. He had to shoot repeatedly to turn an infected into a pincushion before he could kill it.

"Easier said than done," Alan said with irony, as he picked up the arrows one by one.

It would take time to practice. Fortunately, this bow required nothing but practice in critical situations; otherwise, it would have been much harder to master.

After killing a few infected, Alan used office objects as static targets for training. His skill level was still too low to go out and exterminate them all without being noticed.

Fortunately, the infected didn't know how to dodge, at least the slower ones, and Alan soon mastered shooting at targets.

But due to the time, he needed to return. He didn't visit Bob's apartment beforehand. However, the number of infected was alarming, and considering that Alan was carrying many resources, he decided it was better to come back tomorrow.
