Chapter 40 - BLAZING THUNDER AND BLACK ROSES

ARCANE DRIFTERS: THE JOURNEY

VOLUME I — FINAL CHAPTER CONTINUATION

---

The Bloodvault chamber trembled in silence after the laughter faded.

Vaegas stood still.

For the first time since his awakening, the Arcane General did not move forward.

Not because he was injured.

Not because he was afraid.

But because something had just entered the battlefield that did not belong to any side present.

The air shifted.

Pressure dropped.

Even the blood-soaked stones stopped cracking.

Then—

Shen exhaled.

A simple breath.

Yet the entire Bloodvault responded like it had been struck by a higher law.

His Supreme Lord Eye opened.

Black.

Deep.

Unblinking.

The shadows around him stopped behaving like energy.

They behaved like authority.

Kenya froze mid-step.

Ruke's lightning flickered out.

Eliz's petals disintegrated before they could form.

Even Vaegas narrowed his eyes.

"…Mediator."

The word came out slower than before.

Not arrogance.

Recognition.

Ryulga stepped beside Shen casually, as if the situation was mildly inconvenient rather than apocalyptic.

"Ah," he said, looking at the battlefield. "You all survived. Good."

Kenya turned slowly.

Then shouted—

"YOU DISAPPEARED FOR A YEAR AND COME BACK LIKE THIS?!"

Shen scratched his cheek.

"I was training."

Ruke snapped.

"TRAINING WHERE?! A BLACK HOLE?!"

Shen hesitated.

"…Kind of."

Eliz took a step forward, her voice quieter.

"You… changed."

Shen looked at her for a moment.

Then smiled faintly.

"I had to."

The silence that followed was heavier than Vaegas's aura.

The Arcane General finally lifted one of his weapons.

Six arms moved in perfect synchronization.

"Enough reunion."

The Bloodvault groaned.

"I will end this interruption now."

Shen tilted his head slightly.

"Oh, right. That."

He took one step forward.

Just one.

And reality reacted.

The Supreme Lord Eye pulsed once.

Not an attack.

A command.

The space between Shen and Vaegas distorted.

The General's weapon stopped mid-swing.

Not blocked.

Not deflected.

Simply… invalidated.

Vaegas's eyes widened slightly.

"…What did you do?"

Shen answered honestly.

"I don't know yet."

A beat.

Then—

Kenya blinked.

"…Wait. That's it?"

Ruke frowned. "That's his explanation?!"

Eliz whispered, almost relieved despite everything.

"That sounds like him…"

Shen turned slightly.

"Hey. Don't start fights I just fixed."

Kenya yelled immediately.

"YOU DID NOT FIX ANYTHING!"

Vaegas growled.

The ground shattered.

"ENOUGH!"

The Arcane General's full pressure erupted outward.

The Bloodvault collapsed inward from sheer force.

But before it reached them—

Shen's shadow moved.

Not fast.

Not aggressive.

Just… aware.

And the pressure stopped at the boundary of his presence like it had hit an invisible law.

Silence returned again.

This time deeper.

Vaegas finally looked directly at Shen.

"…You are not a Mediator anymore."

Shen nodded slowly.

"I figured."

A pause.

Then Shen added:

"But I'm still me."

Ryulga smirked.

"That's the worst part."

Kenya stepped forward again, pointing at Shen.

"So what now?! You vanish for a year, come back with a glowing eye, and suddenly we're supposed to—"

Shen interrupted.

"We finish this."

He looked at Vaegas.

Then at his team.

Then at the broken Bloodvault sealing itself shut behind them.

"…Together."

Eliz blinked.

Ruke exhaled sharply.

Kenya clicked his tongue.

"…Tch. Took you long enough to say something cool."

Shen smiled.

"Yeah yeah. Miss me or not, we're still dying together apparently."

That finally broke the tension.

A short laugh escaped Eliz.

Even Ruke shook his head.

Kenya cracked his knuckles again.

"Fine. But after this, I'm punching you."

Shen nodded seriously.

"Fair."

Vaegas, however, stepped forward again.

His tone lowered.

"This moment changes nothing."

The Arcane General raised all six weapons.

"This world still ends with Mediators falling."

Shen's Supreme Lord Eye opened fully.

The Bloodvault dimmed.

Shadows rose.

And for the first time—

Shen didn't charge forward immediately.

He simply said:

"Then I'll rewrite the ending."

The clash that followed was not recorded in history.

Because the Bloodvault stopped existing as a stable structure.

It became something else.

A battlefield between rule and rewrite.

Between General and Mediator.

Between past and future.

And in the center—

Shen stopped being someone who borrowed power.

And became someone the world had to negotiate with.

FINAL NOTE — VOLUME I END

The Bloodvault sealed itself after the battle.

Glass City never learned what truly happened beneath it.

Vaegas's presence vanished.

No body was found.

No victory was declared.

Only silence remained.

And somewhere beyond the broken seal—

A deeper system awakened.

Something that had been watching Mediators since before Ryulga's era.

And it had finally noticed Shen.
