Chapter 429: The Metabolic Accelerator
Before the clash began, Li Xisheng felt a moral obligation to issue a warning.
"Kenji, tell your Annihilape to be ready. This move... it's not meant for a
standard match. Below the Master Tier, almost no Pokémon can walk away from this
hit in one piece."
Kenji's expression didn't waver. He knew the stakes. "I'm counting on it.
Annihilape! Primal Rage-Fist!"
The Primal Rage-Fist was Kenji's most chaotic combination: a merger of Outrage
and Rage Fist. While they seemed like simple moves, their synergy was
terrifying. Outrage forced Annihilape into a state of heightened adrenaline and
physical power, which in turn spiked its "Rage" count to the maximum. It created
a feedback loop of escalating violence—the move essentially fueled itself.
On the other side of the field, Sirfetch'd gripped its leek-sword with both
wings. Its eyes, sharp as needles, locked onto the monkey. The noble bird let
out a roar as its internal Fighting-type energy erupted, swirling around its
body in a localized hurricane.
BOOM!
The sheer pressure of the bird's aura tore up the turf around its feet, sending
chunks of sod flying into the barrier.
SHHH-BOOM!
Sirfetch'd launched. It moved like a falling star, its body wreathed in a
blinding white-and-gold light. It left a scorched trench in the arena floor as
it streaked toward Annihilape like a sentient spear.
Annihilape answered with a guttural, world-shaking howl. Its wild white mane
flared out, dancing in the air like ghostly flames. It looked less like a
Pokémon and more like a demon breaking free from an ancient seal.
The monkey's sanity finally snapped. It surrendered entirely to the Outrage, its
mind becoming a void filled only with the desire to crush whatever stood in
front of it. It lunged forward, meeting the "Star" head-on.
"ANN-HIIIIII!"
"CHAM-PIIII!"
As they collided, the spectral rage leaking from Annihilape solidified, taking
the shape of a massive, blood-red dragon's head. The dragon's maw opened wide,
swallowing the "Meteor" that was Sirfetch'd.
THOOM—CRACKLE—SHATTER!
The collision was so violent that the stadium's primary containment barrier
flickered, the hexagonal plates groaning under the strain of the shockwave.
Both trainers shielded their eyes.
Li Xisheng held his breath. Final Meteor Strike was essentially a suicide move,
much like Self-Destruct. Once used, the user was guaranteed to faint. The only
question was: would the target go down with it? Li was confident that no Pokémon
below Level 100 could tank that hit and keep standing.
The smoke and dust began to clear.
In the center of the cratered remains of the arena, a single, rounded silhouette
remained standing. The wild, iconic "mohawk" of white hair was still visible,
swaying in the wind.
Li Xisheng was stunned. He took it? He actually took a point-blank Final Meteor
and didn't fall?
But as the dust fully vanished, he saw the state of the "Rage Phantom."
Annihilape was heaving, its breath coming in ragged, bloody sobs. Its eyes were
pure crimson, devoid of any recognition. The red aura around its body wasn't
fading; it was growing darker, more viscous.
The monkey's gaze swept the field, landing on Li Xisheng.
"ANN-HIIII!"
It let out a vicious snarl. For a moment, it looked like it was going to leap
over the barrier and beat the trainer himself to death. The primal bloodlust was
palpable.
"Annihilape! Stand down!" Kenji barked, his voice cutting through the madness.
The monkey froze. A flicker of clarity returned to its eyes, but it was quickly
swallowed by the roiling fury. It didn't attack Li, but it began to pummel the
ground beneath its feet, each strike sounding like a thunderclap as it vented
its excess energy.
"Elite Four Li, please... send out your last Pokémon," Kenji said, his voice
carrying a hint of concern. He knew his monkey was on the edge of a total mental
breakdown.
Li Xisheng didn't need to be told twice. He recalled the unconscious Sirfetch'd
and released his final ace.
"Finish this, Gallade!"
"GAL-LADE!"
The blade-master appeared, its elbow-blades extending with a sharp shink.
"Mega Evolve!"
The light of Mega Evolution engulfed Gallade, transforming it into Mega Gallade.
But before the light had even fully faded, the gray-and-white blur of Annihilape
was already on it.
Annihilape fought like a cornered animal. There was no technique, no grace—only
a relentless barrage of Rage Fists. Every time Mega Gallade tried to counter
with a Psycho Cut, the monkey simply took the hit and threw a harder punch.
It was a nightmare of attrition. Annihilape was a "glass cannon" with a full
magazine and no safety.
"ANN-HIIIII!"
Suddenly, Annihilape stopped.
Mega Gallade seized the opening, its elbow-blade glowing with psychic energy as
it delivered a clean Night Slash across the monkey's chest.
SHHH-RING!
The strike bit deep. Annihilape stumbled, its legs shaking. But then, a faint
golden light shimmered around its frame.
Hex Core: Last Stand—Triggered!
Under the effects of Last Stand, a Pokémon at critical health deals massive
bonus damage.
Annihilape didn't wait. It funneled every remaining drop of its rage—the
accumulated pain of the Bounce, the Meteor Strike, and the Night Slash—into one
final, world-ending fist.
BOOM!
The punch caught Mega Gallade squarely in the gut. The impact created a sonic
boom that cleared the remaining dust from the arena. The Mega-evolved warrior
was launched across the field, skipping like a stone across the dirt until it
slammed into the far wall.
Mega Gallade struggled to its feet, coughing, its Mega-form flickering. It
hadn't fainted, but it was at death's door.
Across the field, Annihilape stood tall for one last second. It looked at the
battered Mega Gallade, then at the shocked Li Xisheng. It let out a weak,
mocking snort. Then, with its last ounce of strength, it slowly raised its hand
and extended its middle finger in a clear, universal gesture of "Screw you."
THUD.
The monkey collapsed face-first into the dirt, its middle finger still pointed
defiantly at the sky.
The stadium went dead silent.
[System Notification]
Battle Concluded. Winner: Kenji.
After the match, Kenji apologized to Li Xisheng for his Pokémon's... lack of
manners. Li, being a Fighting-type master, just laughed it off. He knew that the
line between a great Fighting-type and a complete lunatic was often very thin.
While his team was being healed in the back, Kenji retreated to his private
lounge and opened the System.
"DING! Do you wish to extract your reward?"
"Do it."
DING! Extraction in progress... DING! Congratulations! You have obtained the
Gold Hex Core: Metabolic Accelerator!
Kenji blinked. "Metabolic Accelerator?"
In the source game, this item healed the player's avatar after every round.
Kenji's heart hammered as he clicked the description.
[Gold Hex Core: Metabolic Accelerator]
Effect: The host now generates one unit of Vitality Essence every 24 hours.
Usage: This essence can be consumed by the host or a Pokémon. It permanently
extends the target's lifespan and significantly enhances their natural
physique/recovery rate.
"Lifespan?!" Kenji nearly shouted.
This was a game-changer. Pokémon lifespans were a bittersweet reality of the
world. While a Ninetales could live for a thousand years and Legendaries were
functionally immortal, many others had much shorter windows.
A standard Beedrill—even a high-level one—might only live for forty or fifty
years. For a trainer who planned to reach the top and stay there, the thought of
outliving his first partner was a constant shadow.
With Vitality Essence, that shadow was gone. He could ensure his team lived as
long as he did—or longer. He could turn his Beedrill into an immortal king.
"Steady growth, legendary longevity..." Kenji whispered, a grin spreading across
his face. "I'm not just building a team. I'm building a dynasty."
