Chapter 1 - Heat

Third-person POV

"When will you be arriving?" Noah asked, his voice filled with a hopeful anticipation as he clutched his phone. On the other end of the line was Aiden Frost, his Alpha boyfriend, the man he trusted above all others.

"I won't be coming this time," Aiden's voice cut through the receiver, cold and detached.

Noah's heart sank, a familiar ache blooming in his chest. "Again?"

"Yeah," Aiden replied with an impatient sigh. "I have a very important meeting today, so I won't be making it."

"Can't you come after the meeting?" Noah pleaded softly, gripping the phone a little tighter. The ache inside him wasn't just emotional; it was becoming physical.

"No. I told you I can't come," Aiden snapped, his tone sharpening. "I have a meeting."

"But you promised me," Noah whispered, tears welling up in his eyes as the sting of betrayal washed over him.

"Why are you being so annoying?" Aiden groaned, his irritation boiling over. "I told you I can't come. Stop bugging me."

"I'm sorry," Noah choked out, a hot tear finally escaping and rolling down his cheek. "It's just... it's just that I'm in my heat cycle. That's why."

As a dominant Omega—a rare and powerful subgender—Noah's heats were intense, requiring the soothing presence of his matched Alpha. But instead of comfort, Aiden offered only disdain.

"Then take some suppressants and stop annoying me," Aiden said coldly. "I hate it when you act so needy."

"The suppressants don't work anymore," Noah confessed, his voice cracking with a mix of sadness and fear.

"Then double the dose!" Aiden demanded angrily.

"I tried!" Noah cried out, his body trembling. "But it has no effect. And besides... the doctor said I should stop taking them entirely. He said if I keep pushing my body like this, I might die."

There was a heavy silence on the line, but it wasn't born of concern. Aiden simply didn't care. "I gotta go. Got some things to handle."

"Aiden! Aiden! Aiden—" Noah called out desperately, but the line went dead. "Oh, he cut the call..."

Noah dropped the phone, sinking into himself as the rejection tore through him, and he began to cry bitterly.

Noah Lane and Aiden Frost had a history that stretched back to their high school days. Back then, Noah was the target of ruthless bullying, and Aiden had been the brave Alpha who stepped in to save him. From that moment on, they became inseparable best friends. Over the years, Noah's platonic affection deepened into something profound. When he finally gathered the courage to confess his feelings, he was overjoyed when Aiden confessed he liked him too.

A few months into their relationship, Aiden convinced Noah to let him mark him, claiming it was a symbol of their eternal bond. But almost immediately after leaving his permanent mark on Noah's neck, Aiden moved to another state for a job. Since that day, Aiden avoided meeting Noah at all costs.

What Noah didn't know was the cruel reality behind Aiden's actions. Aiden had never truly loved him. It was all a calculated ploy to trap a dominant Omega. Aiden knew that a dominant Omega paired with an Alpha could birth a dominant Alpha—the rarest, most powerful caste of all. And once an Omega is marked, they belong to that Alpha forever. They cannot mate with anyone else, and the bond can only ever be broken or covered by an even more powerful dominant Alpha.

Left entirely alone, Noah lay curled on the floor, trying to endure the agonizing waves of his heat. In a desperate bid to stop the pain, he ignored the doctor's warnings and swallowed more suppressants. But just as he feared, they showed absolutely no effect. He rolled on the hard floor, weeping from both the physical torment and the crushing weight of heartbreak.

The sharp chime of an email notification broke through the silence of the room. A few weeks ago, Noah had interviewed for a position at a massive, prestigious corporation. With trembling hands, he reached for his phone and opened the message.

"Noah Lane, congratulations on passing your interview. You have been assigned the post of Secretary to the CEO. You are expected to report to the company office tomorrow morning."

Suddenly, the agony of his heat was eclipsed by a surge of pure adrenaline. Noah jumped up in absolute ecstasy, the physical pain momentarily forgotten in the wake of the incredible news. He had been searching for a job for months, desperate for a distraction and independence.

"Finally," Noah breathed, a genuine smile breaking through his tears. "I have a new job."

The Next Morning

Noah freshened up, carefully dressing in his best professional attire, and headed straight to the corporate headquarters. Walking into the sleek, bustling office building, he felt a spark of hope he hadn't felt in a long time.

He approached the reception desk, keeping his posture professional. "Good morning, sir. I am Noah Lane."

The staff member looked up, checking a list before nodding politely. "Good morning. Report to the CEO's office immediately."

"Yes, I will. Thank you, sir," Noah replied, giving a polite nod before heading toward the executive elevators.

As he walked down the quiet, luxurious hallway leading to the main office, Noah suddenly froze. Just as he reached the threshold of the door, a powerful scent washed over him. It was intoxicating, commanding, and heavy with authority.

"This is the scent of a dominant Alpha," Noah realized, his breath hitching in shock. "Damn it. No ordinary Omega can resist a dominant Alpha's pheromones... but I didn't think those pheromones would affect a marked Omega like me so intensely."

Before he could spiral into panic, a voice drifted through the door. It was cold, deep, yet incredibly calm.

"Come in."

Noah swallowed hard, his heart hammering against his ribs. "Oh shoot," he thought frantically. "I have to wear my special Omega perfume next time to completely hide my pheromones."

Steeling his nerves, Noah pushed the door open and walked into the grand office. The moment he stepped inside, his breath caught. A tall, strikingly handsome dominant Alpha was walking right toward him, projecting an aura of pure, unyielding power.

"A dominant Alpha indeed," Noah thought, his inner Omega trembling under the man's sheer presence.

The man stopped a polite distance away and extended his hand forward, his dark eyes locking onto Noah's.

"Hello," the man said, his voice smooth and authoritative. "I'm Diamant Reed, the CEO."

Noah took a shallow breath, trying to steady his shaking hands as he reached out. "Good morning, sir. I'm your—"
