Volantis, 290 AC, seventh moon of the year
- POV Dalton Pyke
"This is stupid! Why do I need to learn about some dead whoreborn cunt? I should be learning how to wield a sword or an axe, not reading a book about dead people." I exclaimed at him for the fourth time that day as he looked at me, his weird eyes full of boredom as he questioned
"What do you think of your grandfather's rebellion?" He asked, to my confusion, what does my grandfather's rebellion have to do with me not wanting to read books?
"I don't know, stupid, I guess." I answered unconvincingly as he motioned to me to continue leaning back in his comfortable chair.
"Grandfather said that he would win because the great houses were ununited and at each other's throats, and it was a great opportunity to remind the Greenlanders why we follow the old way. " I said as he nodded at me to continue.
"But they were more united than ever." I said as I continued
"Robert's wife is the daughter of Tywin Lannister; his hand was Jon Arryn, and his brother in all but blood is Eddard, who is the husband of the daughter of Hoster Tully, and his brothers each hold great power, so he was stupid, right?" I asked as he looked at me strangely, and he spoke with suspicion.
"Are you certain that you are Balon's grandson? Because frankly speaking, neither he nor his sons or brothers were that bright, like you." I don't know whether he was insulting me or praising me as he changed the subject back to the original problem question.
"Anyway, listen, kid, I want you to not be like your father or grandfather or anyone from your family, or you won't be useful to me or your house. Besides, do you not want to take revenge for your father?" He questioned as I nodded.
"Good in order to do that I need you smart so you read as much books about dead people as I tell you to and when you get old enough you will learn how to wield a sword you are still too young to hold a sword let alone a axe." He said as I retorted angrily.
"But I am ready for it!! I just reached eight name days!! When my namesake was at my age, he was killing people twice his age and..." I was shouting at him as he raised a hand and became silent as he spoke.
"When your namesake was the same age as you, he was killing men who were already mortally wounded not the other way around do you think you can do that?." He questioned as I nodded confidently as he made gesture with his finger and one of the slaves? Servants? I don't know what to call them they are silent as ghost and move without any orders to knell in front of me and put a knife on my hands as he spoke after I took the knife from the servant
"Kill it ." He ordered me with a smile on his as I looked at him shocked as I spoke
"What? But why? he hasn't done anything wrong." I said to him as I looked at the servants eyes I noticed that he didn't have any trace of fear on his face
-POV Viserys Targaryen
"Killing a wounded man is no different you only need to stab it in the eye or slit his throat kill it and I will let you learn how to wield a sword." I said to the child as he looked at me with shock and disbelief after a few minutes he raised the knife and brought it down to kill the slave Only to stop the knife inches away from its eye
I ordered the slave to take the knife from his hands and leave the room with sign language as I spoke to the child
"Why didn't you kill it? you said that you could kill a wounded man with hesitation, but you couldn't even kill an unarmed slave who was inches away from you." I questioned with a smile to the boy who was on his knees breathing so hard I thought his heart might explode.
"I don't know! I just don't know!" He shouted as he started to cry.
Oh shit I forgot that kids cry when they don't get to have it their way I thought to myself as I stood up from the chair and as I walked to the door I said to the kid as I opened the door
"Listen, kid, the outside world is not a place where crying could get you what you want; you get nothing but a stab to the heart or worse, getting sold into slavery, so read all of the books about dead people so you may learn from their mistakes." I said to the crying kid as I walked out of the room.
