"Damn it, damn it, damn it! Did Onee-sama really fall into the hands of that filthy ape so easily?!"
Shirai Kuroko repeatedly slammed her forehead against the dirt of the park bushes, her heart filled with absolute grief and indignation.
'Yesterday, I clearly showed Onee-sama the photographic evidence of that ape cheating on her with Shokuhou Misaki, but instead of being heartbroken, she remained completely calm! Could it be that the ape's manipulation methods are so despicable that he has already won over Onee-sama's heart entirely? Does she not even mind that the scumbag has a mistress?!'
"That's absolutely impossible!"
Kuroko clutched her pigtails and howled in silent, dramatic grief. But the very next moment, her expression completely froze.
She suddenly felt the heavy weight of three pairs of eyes fixed directly on her, exactly like a thief caught red-handed by security guards.
She slowly turned her head with a stiff, creaking sound like a rusted robot. Crouching just outside the bushes, her Onee-sama, the ape, and an unfamiliar silver-haired nun were all staring down at her.
"What exactly are you doing in the dirt, Kuroko?" Misaka Mikoto crossed her arms, her lips twitching slightly. She looked somewhat speechless before letting out a long, self-deprecating sigh.
As expected, she still couldn't shake off her personal stalker; Kuroko had actually sneaked all the way out here to spy on them.
Ever since meeting Takahashi Yuuya, Kuroko's personality had somehow become even more neurotic. She was constantly suspicious, always assuming that Mikoto had a secret boyfriend, and that the boyfriend was none other than this annoying ape!
'No way,' Mikoto thought indignantly. 'Even if I were to find a boyfriend, I would never choose a frustrating freak like him!'
"Um, Onee-sama... I just happened to be patrolling this area on official Judgment business...!" Kuroko's expression stiffened when questioned. Large beads of cold sweat dripped down her face, her guilty conscience fully exposed.
"Oh, Kuroko. You're just being paranoid again, completely mistaking your wild delusions for reality, aren't you?" Mikoto sneered, a dangerous blue arc of electricity shooting out from her bangs.
"Um, this is... well..." Kuroko stammered as she looked at the sparks, completely unable to form a coherent excuse.
"Oh well. It's nothing deeply secretive anyway, so let her tag along," Mikoto sighed, rubbing her forehead in defeat.
"Yay! Oh, Onee-sama!" Kuroko's eyes lit up instantly. She burst out of the bushes and launched herself toward Mikoto with absolute joy. "I knew you still cared about me—!"
"Don't suddenly pounce on me!" Mikoto cried out in fright.
BZZZT—!
The sharp sound of high voltage and a blinding flash of blue electricity suddenly illuminated the park.
A second later, Shirai Kuroko lay flat on the ground, twitching and smoking exactly like a frog that had been struck by lightning.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
Yuuya slowly clapped his hands, a highly amused smirk on his face to show he was thoroughly enjoying the live comedy show.
"You bastard..." Mikoto was speechless, a large, pulsing tic mark appearing on her forehead as she glared at his applause.
"Anyway, let's head outside Academy City now. How about the coastline near Tokyo Bay? It's completely deserted right now—the perfect place for a high-level duel," Yuuya suggested casually.
"No problem. I'll show you exactly how powerful the Railgun is today," Mikoto declared confidently, her fighting spirit instantly reigniting. Today, she was going to avenge her humiliating previous defeat and let this guy know that he had only managed to tackle her last time because she was caught off guard.
"What?! Wait a minute! Onee-sama, you want to go outside Academy City?!"
Upon hearing this, Kuroko, who had just been twitching on the ground, immediately bolted upright and spoke with a terrified, serious expression.
"That is a severe violation of Academy City's absolute quarantine regulations! If you're caught, it will definitely be recorded on your permanent file, and in severe cases, the Board of Directors might even expel you from Tokiwadai!"
"Of course I know that. But as long as we don't get caught, it's fine," Mikoto said impatiently, waving off the concern. "Besides, the fight won't take more than an hour or two. Even if I'm not inside the city limits for two hours, the security grid won't notice I'm gone, right?"
"Onee-sama, you're oversimplifying things! Besides, you're a Level 5! A Level 5 leaving Academy City without official permission is an international incident!" Kuroko said anxiously.
Although her Onee-sama was usually approachable and righteous, she had always been an incredibly headstrong person. Once she made up her mind to do something reckless, absolutely nothing could stop her. Whether it was constantly kicking vending machines for free drinks, actively picking fights with armed delinquents, or her bizarre obsession with childish Gekota plushies.
"You're being so naggy today, Kuroko. Is enforcing border security even part of a standard Judgment committee's job?" Mikoto raised an eyebrow impatiently.
"This isn't a matter of Judgment duties, it's a matter of basic student principle!" Kuroko argued hastily.
"So what? With my spatial abilities, who would even know that Misaka and I temporarily left the city?" Yuuya shrugged, not caring at all about Academy City's rigid laws. Rules were inanimate constructs, but people were adaptable.
"It was you who instigated Onee-sama, wasn't it?! What exactly are your wicked intentions toward her?!" Kuroko immediately stood up and placed herself defensively in front of Mikoto, glaring at Yuuya with intense hostility.
'That ape is truly despicable!' Kuroko thought furiously. 'This must be some kind of wicked scheme of his to get her alone in Tokyo Bay! As the ancient proverb goes, "One who stays near vermilion gets stained red, and one who stays near ink gets stained black." My pure Onee-sama's recent bad habits must have all started because of his corrupting influence!'
"This duel wasn't my idea," Yuuya shrugged, looking down at Kuroko with a mocking expression.
As he looked at her, a glowing holographic icon suddenly materialized above her twin-tails. Shirai Kuroko actually had a Silver Treasure Chest attached to her person.
[Ding! Congratulations to the Host for discovering a hidden Silver Treasure Chest. Opening Condition: Deeply and irreparably hurt the feelings of the girl whose name is written as 'Kuroko' but pronounced as 'Pervert'.]
'Hehe...' Yuuya chuckled internally. That was going to be entirely too easy.
"This is my own decision, Kuroko. Today, I'm absolutely determined to settle things with this guy once and for all," Mikoto said, her voice carrying the unrestrained, stubborn spirit of a warrior.
"What?!" Kuroko's eyes widened in horror. "What? A fight?!" She slapped her own cheeks in disbelief. "It's just a physical brawl?! My dear Onee-sama, can't you do something more befitting your elegant status?!"
"Acceptable status? What, like classical painting, playing the violin, and attending tea parties? I have absolutely zero interest in those boring things. That's just the school's strict requirement for appearances! Shouldn't normal students be allowed to relax by letting off some steam?" Mikoto argued.
"Besides, as the prestigious Third-Ranked Level 5 in Academy City, picking a fight with this guy is just bullying him, Onee-sama! This arrogant little punk couldn't even withstand a fraction of your Railgun!" Kuroko immediately spat, ruthlessly belittling Yuuya to dissuade Mikoto.
"What?! You actually called Yuuya a nobody? A weak Esper?!"
Suddenly, Index stepped out from behind Yuuya. She puffed out her cheeks and glared at Kuroko angrily. "Yuuya is an incredibly powerful and kind person! How dare you be so incredibly rude and belittle him!"
"And what exactly are you supposed to be, you little brat?" Kuroko sneered, looking down her nose at the girl. "Why are you looking down on me with such an annoying attitude to defend this ape?"
"Little... little brat?!" Index's face stiffened.
"You are the little brat!"
"I can't pretend I didn't hear that, you flat-chested elementary schooler cosplaying in a nun's uniform!" Kuroko snapped right back, a dangerous nerve snapping in her own head regarding her height.
