I stared at him, trying to figure out if he was messing with me. "Are you new here?" I asked, releasing my hands.
His tongue swiped across his lips. "Yes and no. No, because I've been here before. Yes, because I haven't been here in a year and some months."

"I'm one of the hunters selected by the Seer to rescue humans and hunters from outside and bring them here."
I scanned him. He looked to be in his twenties, tall, muscular, decent-looking. Nothing about his features hinted at his powers.
"Are you trying to figure out how hard you need to punch me to knock me out?"
I didn't return his playful smile.
"I must warn you-it won't be easy."
I didn't doubt that. He had the body of a warrior.
"You must be something special for the Seer to send you out there," I said. "I'm just wondering what gift you possess."
"It's different."
"Show me."
He arched a brow. "Demanding, aren't you?"
I shrugged. "You came here on your own." "
