LUCA'S POV
The device was smaller than a thumbnail.
Romano set it on the desk in front of me and stepped back without a word. I looked at it for a moment before picking it up. Matte black, flat edged, not cheap. Whoever planted it in here definitely wasn't someone small.
"Where did you find it?" I asked, unsure how it even got here in the first place.
"I found it behind the third wall panel. It picks up sound from the sitting room, the dining area, the bottom of the staircase."
I turned it over once in my fingers. "How long has it been there."
"We can't say exactly. Whoever placed it knew our sweep schedule — the frequency ran clean every single time we checked." Romano kept his voice level. "The moment our man touched the panel, the feed cut. They were monitoring live and pulled out the second they knew we'd found it."
I set it back down on the desk.
