Ray POV
…
I was left speechless as I knew that my grandpa's situation was getting more severe as he got older. One of the reasons why I decided to become a psychiatrist was to learn whether there was a cure for this Gatlin curse, because I couldn't, for the love of God, fathom how we could have the same kind of obsession for generations.
But as I continued studying it, theorizing about all the things that could make a Gatlin man turn crazy over a woman… I realized that it was simply a curse.
Perhaps one of my ancestors made a deal with the devil, so we had all the advantages to be successful in life, but in exchange, our love lives would devastate us and destroy us until we were nothing but husks of previously glorious bastards.
I tried to snap my grandpa out of this episodic delusion many times in the past to no avail, and no amount of controlled medication worked.
