She had the Tier 7 core compound materials and the Sovereign Catalyst synthesis methodology and the complete spatial law documentation Markus had compiled across the whole arc of the primordial world work, and she was building something from these that the field had not previously needed to produce: an extraction formulation designed for spatial law architecture rather than biological channel systems.
She and Vorash spoke often. The empire would permit the bridge's opening at the Sector 12 coordinate under specific conditions: the bridge's operational parameters would be established in advance and agreed to by both the empire and Vorash before completion; a joint monitoring commission would oversee the coordinate's status on the framework side; and the bridge would be sealed by mutual agreement if either party determined the arrangement was producing destabilising effects on the framework boundary.
The last condition was the empire's acknowledgment that what Vorash had been doing to the framework boundary — even involuntarily, through the corrupted construction — needed to be addressed, and that the bridge's existence created ongoing responsibility rather than resolving it.
He sent Valerian's response to Vorash.
Vorash read it.
"The conditions are reasonable," he said. "More than reasonable. I expected the empire to require closure rather than management."
"The council's position is that a managed crossing is less dangerous than an unmanaged one," Markus said. "If the bridge completes cleanly, with the empire's involvement in the process, they have more control over the outcome than if we simply close it and Vorash finds another approach."
"I am not going to find another approach," Vorash said. "There is no other approach. There is this bridge or there is no return."
"I know that," Markus said. "Valerian knows that too. The conditions are the form of the agreement, not an attempt to prevent it."
Vorash accepted this.
The manufacturing sector compound application began on the seventh day.

The Society called them the Undoing faction. The objective was not the framework's failure per se — it was the framework's incompleteness. The accelerating second awakening. The atmospheric concentration increase. The anchor stress. The wrath frequency attacks on the framework boundary.
Not an attack on the framework. An argument about it. An argument being made by pointing at the damage the incomplete framework was producing and saying: see? This is what your parents made. It was never going to hold.
He thought about this for a long time.
Then he told the team. And then he told Vorash.
Vorash received it with the specific quality of someone who had been inside a manipulation for twenty-five years and was now looking at the shape of it.
"They used my work to make the argument," Vorash said.
"Yes," Markus said.
"My attempt to go home has been the evidence for their position," Vorash said.
"Yes," Markus said. "Thirty years of construction, corrupted into a tool that damages the boundary you're trying to reach, producing the exact kind of framework failure the Undoing faction wants to point at."
Vorash was quiet.
"Clean the construction," he said. "Complete the bridge. Let me go home cleanly. That refutes the argument."
"Yes," Markus said. "That's one part of refuting it."
"The other part," Vorash said.
"The temporal dimension's inadequate accounting," Markus said. "The framework was installed over something. My parents built it knowing the temporal dimension wasn't fully integrated. The anchors were the acknowledgment that the integration wasn't complete — they recorded the interval to make the incompleteness addressable rather than permanent."
He looked at the Time law tome in his hands.
"The fourth page," he said. "What comes through the bridge at the moment of contact. The temporal-spatial node the bridge creates. I think my parents built the bridge's arrival coordinate specifically. The Sector 12 anchor, the megalithic arch, the specific coordinate — not as a random entry point but as the place where the incompleteness could be addressed."
He looked at Vorash.
"When you cross," he said, "I think something specific is supposed to happen at the contact point. And I think I need to understand what before the bridge completes."
Vorash was still.
"Your parents designed this," he said.
"I think they designed for the possibility," Markus said. "Two million years inside the black hole. They've had time to think about it."
He held the fourth page's threshold in his comprehension — the specific understanding it required that he was close to but had not yet reached.
The manufacturing sector extraction continued.
The compound performed.
