Chapter 17 - An Early Training

Steel was true to his word, waking me as early as three in the morning, this time I knew I wasn't going to faint from the pain, I knew I could withstand it.

At first he saw the area around us. The small yard that was where we were at.

Steel and I both look at each other and before anything could happen he raised his hand.

"Follow me."

He stood there looking around like he forgot something.

Then he reached around his back.

"I'm guessing you'd learn to get better with the bow yes?"

I nod as he tosses the bow.

I grab the bow by its grip, seeing the same sigil on the grip.

Steel walked to the gate and opened it, he stood there for a minute and looked at me eye to eye.

"Hurry."

He nodded his head at me to follow.

I did follow.

I walked out the gate passing Steel, and then he walked around to guide me from the front again we head in behind side of houses.

All the houses have their lanterns off, or their fireplace burnt out.

Many people continue to sleep at this early time in the morning, the same is said for Marcilene.

"Where are we going?"

I ask him.

Steel turns back to look at me for a second then looks forward again, never stopping once.

"You said you wanted to train, so I'll help you. I have a friend coming eventually, she'll be the one to help you learn how to train with a bow, but for now, I'll teach you the best I can."

I nod, in acknowledgment.

"But how will you train me? Aren't we going to spar?"

Steel lets out a gasped laugh.

"My boy, do you think that if we were sparring I'd even give you the smallest of opportunities to draw your string?"

He replied.

'The way he said that… he sounded dangerous.'

"I'm not sure?"

"I wouldn't…"

He answered for me.

"That's the point of this training."

We continued to walk past many houses, until we are close to the tree line for the Warren Forest.

The dark doesn't make it any less intimidating as we got closer, the trees canopy was so thick that not even the moonlight could penetrate towards the ground.

"We're going inside?"

I ask, my voice wavered for a second.

"No, but something's coming can you hear it?"

I close my mouth and try to understand what Steel is talking about.

My hand grips tighter around the grip of the bow.

I hear a very faint sound of rustling coming from the behind the treeline, we didn't get closer than, about twenty yards from the trees.

"Ready your bow."

Steel told me, he stood there unafraid of who or what would end up being the reason for those sounds.

He stood there with his arms crossed.

"What if it's a small bunny."

He looked at me, his face looked different not the same as the Steel that would laugh and joke.

"Then we have breakfast, hurry, draw your bow before it breaks through the treeline."

He turns his attention back toward the trees.

"And move your eye patch, it's easier to use a bow, with both eyes."

I nod, then slowly pull up the black eye patch and see a pitch black darkness from the trees, a small faint glow, a white glow, that jumped from tree to tree.

I readied myself, trying to remember the feeling of pulling the boy.

And I touched the sigil as I do that I pull the bowstring, the sting is immediate.

'Why didn't it feel like this when I was pulling it and ready to shoot Jahar?'

As if reading my mind Steel answers me.

"I bet the string pull feels even a slight bit harder..."

I nod and let out a gasp of agreement.

Keeping my breath steady as I aim.

"… you needed to fire an arrow to protect your sister, and in the process ended up being able to pull the string with much more ease…"

I don't pull my attention away from the fast moving thing, as the color moves like it's teleporting from tree to tree.

"…when in distress the human body as far as I know, is able to do things that are crazy, lifting a horse off the ground to protect a grandmother…"

The things, grows even closer, I steady my breath and for a small slight second I hold my breath to not wobble as much as I would do so when I needed to hit Jahar, to save Marcilene.

"…Overpower Soul barriers, rushing past a Soul Tiger to save their kid, stab a regular bear to death in order to see another day of the sun rising."

I follow the moving object with my eyes and as soon as it breaks through the treeline, with nothing else to jump off of, and the rustling sound ending as soon as it does that.

I release the string, though it's still as weak or, not any better compared to before.

It managed to graze the side of, a giant looking bunny Bunny.

Steel sees it break through.

It drops to the ground as it does so, hitting the ground hard.

He stomps on its ears.

"Draw another arrow. Kill the Soul Bunny."

It struggles to free itself under Steels foot.

It's jumps thrashes and bites at Steel.

"Now son."

I tap the sigil once more, pulling the bowstring and the arrow far back.

"I… I can't."

I grab the arrow from the arrow hold and the blue arrow dissipates.

I pull my eye patch over my eye once more.

"It's a harmless thing."

Steel scoffs.

"By Erical boy, you think this creature here is innocent?"

Steel turns his foot slightly keeping his heel on the ears, he slowly crushes the head of the bunny.

"Why…?"

My voice lowers and cracks.

"The bunny isn't innocent son, these or the same creatures that ran up to you with no fear…"

He potted down to his foot.

"… this isn't any regular Bunny, it's a Soul Bunny, that means that they have been enhanced through Soul Energy, also making them superior to regular bunnies…"

I turn my head back to him.

"…These things take advantage of any other regular bunny. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

Only one thing comes to mind when he says that.

"They…?"

Steel nods,

"Anything that comes to mind is what they do to bunnies, they are like an invasive species."

As Steel says that I hear grass crunch from behind me.

Making me tap the sigil and readying the bow and arrow again.

Before I do anything stupid Steel drops my hands making me lower the bow and arrow.

I take the arrow off of the arrow hold and the blue arrow dissipates once more.

"I thought we agreed that I would be on watch by myself for another hour!"

The person that I see slowly resembles the father of both Elsa and Wes.

"Well, I thought that it would be weird to see what you wanted to be out here by yourself. I though you had lost your boy and ended up suicidal, good thing that's not it."

It is their father.

"Well I'll be damned, Rez. You think that low of me?"

Rez walks closer and closer, till he's standing in front of us.

"Lazuli asked for me to train him, you know after his and his sister's incident."

Rez nodded.

"Then I guess it would be fine if we brought our boys along to learn the way of doing things with us?"

Steel nods.

"Yeah, let's go bring them along together, but now since your here, let's just do our routine check of the surroundings?"

Rez nods and follows closer his attire being that of a claymore sword to his side and leather armor.

Different from Steel who didn't even bring his armor.

"Lazuli, make sure you watch us."
