Chapter 8 - I Unlock The Chosen Skill(Bonus)

I'd like to say I took the news well.

Okay.

Chill,chill.

Motherfu-, how the fuck am I supposed to chill?!

I just found out that I'm about to die, for god's sake! How am I supposed to chill?

Because, the truth is, neither me nor the system anticipated that my first dungeon, which was supposed to be C-Rank, would have something far more intelligent than, say a goblin or a jackal. Maybe I did. Something was gnawing me from the inside, telling me that I was about to walk into a whole new mess.

But I seriously did not expect something on this level. Something so smart it could tame other low leveled creatures. And, more importantly, use leashes.

When I asked the system whether it could be a orc, he didn't respond.

I'm not taking that as a good sign.

I let out a sigh I didn't know I was holding in, and picked up Silver Lining. About to die or not, I had to go down fighting. There was no way out of the dungeon, and the slightest chance of survival I had, depended on whether I could kill the boss.

Heh, such a beautiful pipe dream. Wonder how many monsters I can harm before I die.

I made my way down the dungeon, ready, but with my arm still paining. I started, as I suddenly remembered something.

"Yo bro, sell me some 'medicine'" I told him, grinning like an idiot. When he didn't respond, I asked him again, "Bro?"

[Huh? Yeah, yeah, that'll be 500 coins.] The system jerked itself and made an item apppear in front of me. It was labelled-

[Item name-Rare healing potion

Effect- +400 health, recovery from semi minor injuries]

It was a light blue potion in a small vial, with a wooden stopper. I didn't pay much notice to it, as I sighed and turned to the system, injecting seriousness into my voice.

"I know, I know, you're afraid that I'll die."

[Who's afraid you'll die?] The system yelled, flustered. [Not me, for sure!]

"Tsundere," I muttered.

[WHAT WAS THAT?! YOU DAM-]

"Calm down vro, you're just not meant to be a typical edge lord."

[I guess,]

"But do not worry!" I shouted, my eyes sparkling, as I clenched my fist, and raised it in front of my chest. "I, Kai Webb, Son of Medea and Hades, The Princess of Colchis and The God of the Deceased, will never back down! I will fight every fucked up monster till the end! I will-"

[Dungeon Jackal,] The system said in a tired voice.

"Huh?"

I was knocked down to the floor by a heavy weight, and a familiar smell suddenly invaded my nostrils. I gagged, and turned around to find another red haired jackal on top of me.

Great, now no one wants me to finish talking.

I didn't panic, instead I activated Sprint again, and doubled the speed. I rotated Silver Lining in my hand, and from the ground, I struck the wolf's neck.

The Jackal yelped, and jumped off my back, nursing its back. This gave me enough time to roll over to the side, and backflip into a standing position, raising my scythe in front of me. Luckily enough, I had clasped the healing potion, meaning it didn't break, but I didn't count on it. I uncorked the bottle, and drank the entirety of it.

A sudden surge of energy filled me up. My muscles loosened, and some of my fatigue seemed to be washed away. The wounds on my arm faded away to become scars, and I checked my status.

Note: As you have ingested [Rare Healing Potion] despite HP being at 100%,an [ADVANCED HEALTH BAR] has been created. Any damage taken from now, will not injure you, unless, it exceeds 200 damage. 』

Ah, I see. So it's like a shield that can take upto 200 damage. After I've taken 200 damage, the shield breaks, and any damage taken will be directly from my health bar. Simple.

Wait a second, though, why is it only 200? Logically it should be 400, because doesn't the rare healing potion restore 400 health? I was about to ask the system, only to find it in stitches.

[HAHHAHHAHHAHHAHA!HOHOHOHOHOHOOHOHOH!HEHEHHEHEHEHEEEHHEEHEH!] It was practically rolling over in its glee. [Hehe, you got jumped by a mutt! Hohohoohoho, I haven't laughed this much in years! Heehehehehehhe, hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!]

A tick mark appeared on my forehead. "You didn't warn me about that wolf on purpose, did you? And what's more, I bet you decreased The Advanced Health Bar to half it!"

[Ha, so what?] He scoffed. [What you gonna do anyway, bitch?]

I didn't get a chance to retort, because at that moment, the Jackal, clearly tired of being the third wheel, had leapt at me once more. My reflexes kicked in, and swung Silver Lining downwards in an arc, slashing the front of its skull, but failing to do any real damage. It growled, and leapt sideways.

We maintained a circle between each other, warily gazing and waiting for the other to take the next move. Finally, it couldn't take the tension anymore, and jumped forward, dashing towards me.

That's what you want, huh? Then what's you get.

I feinted towards the front, but it didn't bite. Instead, it focused on continuing its onslaught forwards, aiming for my chest. I didn't move. I let it continue calmly, until it was in position to leap at my chest, and then I aimed my feet sideways. As it came flying through the air, I ducked, rolled over, and struck it in its underbelly with the point of my scythe.

It yowled, rolled forward, and slammed into the wall. It looked at my standing figure, but it was no longer looking for prey. Its eyes were filled with bloodlust, and drool dripped down as it bared its long-ahh fangs at me.

This time, it was more cautious. It feinted right, then left, hoping I'd pounce. Unfortunately for it, my instincts as a warrior were guiding me, and I knew very well what it was about to do. From a sudden sidestep, it charged at me from the right, giving an ugly grin as it thought it had fooled me.

Well, it hadn't.

As it got closer, I held Silver Lining with both hands, and lowered myself into a grounded, low and coiled stance.

Three more meters,come on,

The wolf continued dashing.

One more, just one more,

The wolf stepped forward, and at that precise moment, I moved. I blitzed it with Sprint and came to a screeching halt a couple of meters away. It stood there in surprise, until its legs collapsed and its head rolled off, and a spurt of blood from the neck coloured the walls.

I stood up, and wiped the blood off my cheeks. "Two," I said calmly.

I suddenly became fully aware of how much I was looking and acting like an edge lord. I want to be cool, goated and a aura farmer, but it's too early.

"Gah!" I waved my arms around and slapped myself. "Cut it out! Cut it out!"

[Sugoi!] I swear, if I could see him, his eyes would probably have sparkles in them. [ Dude, that was GOATED! Do more!]

"What do you mean-" I started, but got cut off again by another growl.

This time, I didn't even wait. I dashed in the direction the sound was coming from, and slashed wildly. Two seconds later, an extremely mutilated corpse fell at my feet.

[See?] The system gestured vehemently at the corpse. [This is what you can do! Why are you running away from your destiny, when it's going to hunt you down and claim you as its own anyway?]

"You might be unaware, but there's something called 'subtlety' that exists," I put air quotes for 'subtlety'. "So, nah I'd keep running."

The system kept blabbing, but I didn't notice. I looked at my feet, at the dead Jackal, and felt a weird sensation in my chest. As I kept staring at it, suddenly, I had a vision.

The dark cave disappeared, and in its place, something that looked like a throne room. It was lit up by blue flamed torches.

A young man in regular clothes stood in the centre, facing a system screen and surrounded by metal armours ,a red knight lying at his feet. He pondered something, chuckled and said, " A catchphrase, huh?"

"In this case," he lowered his arm and faced the corpses.

"Arise."

The last word was said by both of us simultaneously, him by thinking, me by instinct. The young man didn't seem to notice, but as the shadows of the corpses turned into something far more tangible, I doubled over.

It seemed as if my literal lifeforce had been extracted, and my energy completely sapped. I heaved, and coughed blood, but no one paid me any attention.

After that, everything went black.

AN-
