Tears welled in her eyes, and for a split second, her mind went blank.
However, she quickly regained her composure and hurried to say, "Thank you. Then, you"
Before she could ask what the conditions of his promise were, Feng Tingshen suddenly moved his cigarette away. He reached out and brushed away the single tear that had just escaped the corner of her eye.
"Rest early," he said.
Rong Ci froze, staring at his retreating back, forgetting to react for a long moment. Once she came back to her senses, she felt a bit lost as to what to do next.
When Feng Tingshen told her to rest early, did he mean for her to stay the night here? Although she had moved out, they hadn't officially divorced, so staying for a night wasn't actually a big deal.
But staying in the master bedroom...
Better not.
At that thought, she calmed her emotions, gathered her things along with a change of clothes and some daily necessities, and headed to Feng Jingxin's room. She spent the night there.
The next day.
She woke up before seven. Shortly after she stirred, Feng Jingxin woke up as well. The girl clung to her neck, acting spoiled and asking Rong Ci to drop her off at school.
Rong Ci agreed.
After washing up, they went downstairs for breakfast. A moment later, Feng Tingshen entered the dining room and sat across from them.
"Good morning, Papa!" Feng Jingxin greeted him with boundless energy.
"Morning," Feng Tingshen replied. He glanced at Rong Ci but didn't say anything. He sat down and began eating his breakfast in silence. Rong Ci watched him, likewise remaining quiet.
Feng Tingshen had agreed to help her yesterday, but that didn't mean anything had changed between them. Their relationship remained exactly as it had always been.
After breakfast, Rong Ci dropped Feng Jingxin off at school and went to the office.
Since participating in the tech exhibition, both Rong Ci and Yu Moxun had many new ideas. Previously, they had been too busy with the collaboration with Xundu to have deep discussions. Now that they had the time, they began finalizing their thoughts and figuring out how to move forward.
Consequently, they were extremely busy today. Rong Ci planned to just order takeout for dinner and work late into the night at the office.
However, around six in the evening, while she was still swamped and hadn't even found the time to order food, her phone rang. It was Feng Tingshen again.
Rong Ci checked the caller ID, signaled the others, and stepped out of the meeting room to take the call. "Hello?"
"Grandma is here," Feng Tingshen said. "Come back early."
Rong Ci blinked, stunned. Before she could speak, he had already hung up.
Snapping out of it, she returned to the meeting room and told Yu Moxun she had something to attend to and had to leave first. "Send me the meeting progress and any issues that arise later. I'll find time to handle them." This way, she wouldn't hold up everyone's progress.
Yu Moxun gave her a light nudge. "Got it. Go on."
Half an hour later, Rong Ci drove back to the villa. Feng Tingshen's usual car was already parked to the side. He was likely already back.
Sure enough, as she entered, she saw him. He was sitting on the sofa chatting with Old Madam Feng and Feng Jingxin. He was the first to notice her return, though he said nothing.
Seeing her, the old lady stood up with a smile. "Xiao Ci, you're back?"
"Mhm."
Old Madam Feng patted her hand. "You must be hungry. Dinner is almost ready; let's eat first."
"Okay."
This time, without needing a hint from the old lady, Feng Tingshen sat directly beside her.
Old Madam Feng served her some food, sighing. "Look at you, you've gotten thinner again. Why don't you know how to take care of yourself?"
As she spoke, she shot a glare at her grandson. Her grandson remained unmoved, but without waiting for another prompt, he proactively served some food into Rong Ci's bowl.
"Thank you," Rong Ci said.
The old lady mentioned she had brought many supplements. After dinner, she would have someone pick some out to nourish both Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen. Rong Ci couldn't really refuse and could only nod repeatedly.
In her youth, the old lady had made a name for herself in City Y and was an expert at brewing 'old fire' soup. After dinner, she insisted on personally supervising the cooking of the supplements. When Rong Ci tried to help, she was shooed out of the kitchen.
Rong Ci had no choice but to sit on the sofa.
Feng Jingxin and Feng Tingshen were there as well. One was busy on his phone, while the other played with her Luban Lock. They were all quiet, and no one spoke.
Just then, Yu Moxun happened to message her about something. She checked the content and replied immediately. She was so absorbed in her work that she didn't even notice the old lady coming out of the kitchen.
Feng Tingshen, however, had already set his phone down. Rong Ci quickly put hers away. "Grandma."
Old Madam Feng looked at the family of three and sighed. "You guys..." She didn't know what to say, so she walked over to sit beside Rong Ci and asked, "What are you busy with?"
"Just some work for the company..."
The old lady huffed and pointed at Feng Tingshen. "If there's work, you can talk to him. Otherwise, is he just here for decoration?"
Rong Ci paused. She didn't mention that she had already resigned from the Feng Group. She glanced at Feng Tingshen. He seemed to be in a decent mood, and upon hearing the old lady's words, he didn't tell her about the resignation either. He likely worried that if he said anything, the old lady would force her to go back to work at the Feng Group.
The old lady quickly changed the subject and pulled Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen along for a walk in the garden.
After they returned, the old lady felt sleepy. "I'm going to wash up and rest. When the tonic soup is ready later, remember to drink it."
Rong Ci was about to agree, but then she realized the implicationthe old lady intended to stay the night. She froze and looked at Feng Tingshen.
Feng Tingshen seemed to know what she was thinking. Once the old lady had walked a bit further away, he said, "Grandma said she'll be staying here for a while."
"What?" Rong Ci stood rooted to the spot.
Feng Tingshen offered no further explanation. "I'm going to the study." With that, he headed upstairs without waiting for her reaction.
Feng Jingxin came running down from upstairs and pulled her up to help solve the Luban Lock.
After Rong Ci had spent over an hour with Feng Jingxin, Auntie Liu arrived with the stewed soup. "Mistress, the soup is ready." She set down one of the bowls.
Rong Ci took it. "Thank you."
"The old lady said to drink it while it's hot."
"Okay, I understand."
Auntie Liu left to bring the other bowl to Feng Tingshen. Rong Ci drank the soup while it was still warm and then urged Feng Jingxin to go take a bath.
Since the old lady was staying here, she naturally couldn't sleep in Feng Jingxin's room anymore. After the girl had finished her bath, Rong Ci returned to the master bedroom.
Feng Tingshen wasn't there; he was likely still in the study. She spent some time responding to the messages Yu Moxun had sent earlier. There were still a few difficult points to address.
Thinking as she went, she entered the bathroom. By the time she finished showering and was changing into her pajamas, she realized she had forgotten to bring her pajama pants. The clothes she had just taken off were mostly soaked from when she had washed her face.
Feng Tingshen shouldn't be back yet...
With that thought, she hesitated briefly and pushed the bathroom door open. However, the moment she stepped out, she met Feng Tingshen's gaze.
