"Ugh, my head," Wyatt couldn't help but say as he brought his hand to his head and rose slightly from the sofa where he had fallen asleep, looking from side to side wondering where he was.
"Where the hell am I?" thoughts like that raced through his mind as he got up from the sofa and saw that he was in a house and not in his room at the student residence. Searching his pockets, Wyatt pulled out his cell phone as he tried to turn it on, but the screen didn't light up, which could only mean that the phone's battery was dead.
"Great," Wyatt muttered, seeing that his phone was officially dead, and he prepared to move around the living room looking for a charger so he could charge his phone at least a little bit.
"How the hell did all this happen," Wyatt thought, trying to remember everything that had happened in the last few hours to end up here.
Flashback
Despite being several streets away from the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house, the sound of loud music could still be heard in the surroundings while several students were heading in the same direction they were going.
An occasional gaze landed on their group, but more than anything, attention was fixed on Tajh and Sammy, who were at the front of the group along with several of the team's veterans who had also come to have a good time at the party.
"Wow, this is much better than high school parties," Laquon couldn't help but say as they got closer and closer to the house where the party would be held and the gazes of the other students toward the group of players intensified.
As soon as the players reached the doors, people cleared the way almost involuntarily as they skipped the line that existed to enter the party and walked through the main door like heroes. The music inside the house was at full volume with several students talking in groups and holding cups with beers and other drinks in their hands.
"Welcome, guys," said Reggie, the fraternity president, who, upon finding out that most of the team's players were arriving, made sure everything was in order to receive them.
"Reggie, my brother," Sammy said with a smile on his face, approaching the aforementioned and giving a fist bump to end with pats on the back. Sammy, despite not being a member of the fraternity itself, could be considered a full honorary member since he was one of the players who spent the most time going to parties and knew most of the fraternity members.
"Tajh, what a game, man," Reggie said, followed by greeting Tajh with a smile until his eyes landed on Wyatt. "But look who we have here, the rookie sensation of the game," Reggie said as he took a step forward to stand in front of Wyatt to shake his hand.
"Reggie Gonzalez," he said while extending his hand. "Wyatt Sterling," he replied to the greeting with his own hand as both shared a firm handshake.
"Let me tell you, that last touchdown of yours was freaking crazy, brother," Reggie told him, remembering the way Wyatt dove into the entire line of scrimmage, landing firmly in the end zone to seal the game.
"Thanks, though I must say I still have the bruises from that play," said Wyatt, whose body was still slightly sore due to that last play, but nothing some cold compresses couldn't fix.
"Haha," Reggie laughed heartily at Wyatt's slight joke as he quickly gained confidence and put a hand around his shoulders. "Let me introduce you to the rest of the people here," Reggie said as he took Wyatt on a tour, introducing him to several important members of the fraternity.
"What about me," Laquon said to no one in particular as he saw how the rest of the players forgot about him and Wyatt went off with the fraternity president, leaving him completely to his own luck.
"Well, I guess I'll go for something to drink," Laquon muttered as he headed toward a table where several cans of beer and cocktails were piled up for everyone to make their own drink.
"And he is..." Reggie said, guiding Wyatt through the house and introducing him to several people whose names Wyatt only heard before moving on to the next, forgetting how many college names and faces he had seen throughout this night.
"And tell me, have you thought about being a member of the fraternity?" Reggie told him with a sly smile, the kind he gave to people he was looking to recruit for the fraternity.
"Thanks, but for the moment football is my priority and I don't think I'll have time for fraternity commitments," Wyatt told him with an awkward smile.
"Well, but in case you change your mind, call me," he told him while extending a card that contained all of Reggie's information and in the corner the Alpha Tau Omega logo.
Before Reggie could continue persuading Wyatt to join the fraternity, one of the members made a sign calling him. "Well, if you'll excuse me, duty calls," he said as a sign of goodbye as he left with the member.
As Reggie walked away down one of the house's hallways, Wyatt gave a second look at the card he had between his fingers before putting it in one of his pants pockets and starting to look for Laquon and the rest of the players.
Walking through the hallways of the house in search of his teammates, Wyatt felt the gazes of several people on him as he continued his search. "It's him, right?" a guy asked his group of friends while subtly pointing at Wyatt, who was passing through the hallway. "Yeah, remember that touchdown," his other friend told him, remembering the last quarter of the game. "I'll say, it was crazy," his friend replied as they continued discussing the party.
As Wyatt entered one of the rooms of the house, he immediately took a step back upon recognizing a blonde-haired girl who noticed his presence, but before she could even approach, she saw him take a step back.
"Ashley, what's wrong?" her friend asked her, seeing how her friend looked in the direction of the quarterback.
"It's nothing," Ashley replied, brushing it off. "I have to go." Before her friend could say anything else, Ashley immediately headed toward the hallway, trying to catch up with Wyatt.
"I hope she didn't see me," Wyatt thought as he quickly walked away from there, since he didn't want to cross paths with her again.
Crossing a corner, Wyatt found Sammy along with the rest of the players who were talking with some girls from the university's cheerleading team. "Wyatt, my friend!" Sammy said with a smile on his face, drawing Wyatt into his group.
"Girls, here is the rookie sensation of the moment," Sammy told the group of girls, who flashed smiles and flirtatious winks in his direction.
"Hi, Wyatt," they all said at the same time in perfect synchrony, something that was understandable since they trained and coordinated routines together.
"So Wyatt, which of these three beauties do you find most attractive," Sammy said with a grin from ear to ear as he looked at the rest of the players while the three girls in question gave him their best smiles and postures that did nothing but accentuate their features.
"Have you seen Laquon?" Wyatt asked him, turning his gaze immediately toward Sammy, knowing that the best thing was to get away from that situation as soon as possible.
"Treadwell? I think I saw him in the backyard," Sammy replied, remembering the moment the group split up. "Thanks," Wyatt said quickly as he walked away, leaving the group slightly stunned.
"I don't know whether to feel offended because he didn't give us a second look," said one of the cheerleaders, watching how Wyatt left without even giving them a second glance or any reaction.
"He's cute, we can't deny that," said her friend, who had her arms crossed while following Wyatt with her gaze, unable to deny that she was interested in the new rookie quarterback.
"Girls, girls," Sammy said, regaining the girls' attention toward him and the other two players who were with him. "Don't worry about him; there's enough Sammy for the three of you," he told them with a flirtatious smile, causing the three girls to roll their eyes and walk away, leaving the group completely alone.
"Man, you scared them off," one of Sammy's teammates told him as he watched the girls leave. "Relax, brother, I have everything under control," Sammy said, not letting that rejection get him down as he quickly scanned the place until he found another group of girls. "Follow me, boys," he told them as he approached the group of girls who looked up as the boys approached where they were. "Ladieees," Sammy said with a big smile, starting to talk to them.
Meanwhile, Wyatt went out to the patio where the crowd and noise were much greater compared to inside, with several people dancing on the dance floor and a DJ in a corner livening up the atmosphere.
Looking around, he tried to locate his friend among the crowd, but before he could even take a step inside, a voice at his back made him stop—one that, by the way, was the last one he wanted to hear. "Wyatt, what a coincidence," said an excited Ashley.
Closing his eyes and breathing heavily, Wyatt turned until he was face to face with her. "Ashley," Wyatt said with a cordial smile that didn't reach his eyes at all.
"I didn't expect you to come to the party," Ashley told him quickly. "If I had known, we could have come together," she told him as she gave him her best smile and pushed her chest out a bit, showing more of her breasts in the neckline of the dress she was wearing.
"Yeah..." Wyatt said disinterestedly while his gaze landed beyond the hallway where she was, then pretending as if he had seen the person he was looking for. "Look, my friends are waiting for me, so," Wyatt said as he walked away from Ashley, who was going to open her mouth to say something but bit her tongue seeing how Wyatt was leaving.
Meanwhile, a guy who saw her standing there couldn't help but approach in her direction. "Hello, beautiful," he told Ashley with a gallant smile, who rolled her eyes at him. "Get lost," she told him before turning around and returning to her group of friends, to the bewilderment and frustration of the guy, who couldn't help hearing his friends' laughter at such a rejection he had just suffered.
"Not a word," the guy told his friends through clenched teeth, who went quiet but still couldn't help letting out sounds of laughter.
"Where could that guy have gotten to," Wyatt couldn't help but think as he picked up one of the cups on the table and poured himself a beer from the keg in a corner and took a deep drink.
After that, he continued searching until he finally gave it up as a lost cause and decided to stop worrying about him, and poured himself another beer as he ran into Sammy's group again, who were with a new group of girls whom he didn't hesitate to introduce to Wyatt again as he joined the conversation, enjoying the night completely.
Losing count, Wyatt didn't know how many beers he drank until suddenly he started getting sleepy and decided to sit on one of the sofas in the room, seeking to rest for a few minutes. After that, he couldn't remember anything else, which only meant that he had fallen asleep.
End of Flashback
While Wyatt remembered all that, he had found a charger and proceeded to turn on his cell phone, the first thing being a series of messages from Laquon.
Laquon: Bro, don't come to the room, I'm with company, if you catch my drift 🍆🍑
Wyatt didn't need to read the rest of the messages to know what was going on, so he just put away the cell phone, which had charged enough, and prepared to return to the dormitory.
"I hope at least I don't find anything that traumatizes me," Wyatt muttered as he proceeded to make his way back.
