Chapter 65 - Chapter 65: Ninth Progenitor

"Krul, could it be that you're having trouble governing Japan? Why not hand it over to me? My rule is very stable, and I have plenty of time on my hands."

Lest Karr followed up after Urd.

Krul said with a look of pure disgust.

"Shut up, you brat."

"All right, Krul. Tell us, what is it?"

Lest Karr wanted to say more, but since Urd had spoken for the second time, he knew something bad might happen if he interrupted again. He closed his mouth, though the defiance in his eyes was clear.

Krul rested her face on her right hand and replied calmly.

"It's nothing too important. My progeny, Luke, needs a progenitor seat."

Luke stepped forward and gave a casual bow, just going through the motions.

"Oh?"

The progenitors hadn't expected this. Vampires were generally unwilling to turn humans into Vampires.

They hadn't expected this silver-haired Vampire to have the ability to become the progeny of a progenitor—especially a high-ranking one as proud as Krul.

However, becoming a progenitor did require reporting to them, and Krul's progeny was certainly qualified for a progenitor seat.

"Oho! May I ask how strong Mr. Luke is? If he's powerful enough, I think we could grant him the rank of Eighth Progenitor,"

The Fifth Progenitor, Guren, asked with a smile.

A smiling tiger—that was Luke's first impression of Guren.

The Fourth Progenitor said dejectedly.

"Whatever. Why don't we just draw straws? Pick any number from eight, nine, or ten. I want to go back to sleep."

Luke answered Guren's question.

"I'm super weak. Aside from being fast, I'm useless. In terms of combat ability, I can't even beat Crowley, the thirteenth progenitor."

Luke pointed with a serious face at Crowley, who was slacking off to the side.

Crowley stared at Luke in surprise.

How come I remember having a leg and two arms ripped off the last time I asked you for a spar?

"Pfft!"

Ferid couldn't help but let out a laugh, but he didn't expose Luke either.

Krul didn't understand why Luke was saying this either.

Hearing this, Lest Karr couldn't help but mock.

"Oh, Krul, to think you'd find such a useless progeny. He really suits you."

Lest Karr didn't have much of an impression of Crowley, but in his eyes, a thirteenth progenitor was just a minor lackey he could defeat with ease.

Krul clicked her tongue and thought to herself.

The next time this brat comes to Japan, I'll have to make Luke teach him a lesson.

Urd noticed that the progenitors from Sanguinem looked a bit awkward after hearing Luke's words, and he guessed that Luke might be lying.

But it had nothing to do with him; granting a progenitor seat didn't depend entirely on strength.

Guren didn't look into it further after hearing Luke's words, assuming they were true. He sighed.

"Sigh, then how about the rank of Tenth Progenitor?"

Guren proposed the lowest rank.

"I propose the Ninth."

Urd was brief and to the point.

Lest Karr asked, puzzled.

"Why? He can't even beat the thirteenth. If Krul weren't the Third Progenitor, who knows if this guy would even make it to Twentieth Progenitor!"

Urd didn't like explaining too much. He still trusted his own judgment and was willing to move Luke up one rank.

"Do you have an objection?"

"Heh."

Lest Karr didn't push further and fell silent.

Urd asked.

"Krul Tepes, is this acceptable to you?"

Krul said indifferently.

"I have no objection. I was only here to report it anyway."

Urd nodded and initiated a vote.

The six Vampire factions present cast their votes. Urd's faction, Krul's faction, the Fourth Progenitor's faction, and Guren's faction all agreed to grant Luke the seat of Ninth Progenitor.

One had to give face to Urd.

The Sixth Progenitor hadn't spoken since the beginning, just sitting in the meeting room and listening with his face completely covered.

If asked anything, he would only nod or shake his head. When asked for his opinion during the vote, he chose to shake his head. Only he and Lest Karr had cast dissenting votes.

Urd maintained a poker face.

"Very well, it's settled. Luke, from now on, you are the Ninth Progenitor. The other progenitors will be notified. That is all..."

Before Urd could even finish, the Fourth and Sixth Progenitors immediately cut the communication.

Luke formed his first impression of the two: one with terminal laziness and the other with social anxiety.

Sorry for labeling you both at our first meeting.

After Urd finished speaking, he also went offline immediately; this wasn't even as interesting as watching an opera.

Lest Karr was also about to cut the communication, but he had to take one last sarcastic jab at Krul before leaving.

"Queen Krul, if you or your useless progeny run into any trouble, you can come to me to settle it. I'd be more than happy to help, hahaha."

With that, he cut the communication.

Guren, meanwhile, was sizing up Luke, lost in thought.

Just as Krul was about to close the communication, Guren suddenly shouted.

"Ah, I see! Mr. Luke, you were lying just now, weren't you? You're probably not as pathetic as you said. Lord Urd must have realized this too, which is why he gave you a higher rank!"

Luke remained noncommittal. He walked over to Krul and tapped her hand as it hovered over the close button, and the holographic screen vanished.

"Good thinking. Don't do it again."

"Let go of my hand!"

Krul kicked Luke in the shin, and he immediately let go.

Ferid stepped forward.

"Congratulations, Luke. You've only been a Vampire for a few years and you already have a progenitor seat. It took me several hundred years before they remembered to arrange a seat for me. By the way, is Sanguinem going to be renamed 'Luke' now?"

Krul frowned and snapped.

"Ferid, watch your mouth!"

Ferid took a few steps back, feigning grievance.

"How could you? I've loved you for hundreds of years, yet Luke has only known you for a few..."

Before Ferid could finish, Krul had already lunged. Ferid tried to dodge, but he wasn't as fast as Krul. She closed in on him, her nails shredding his clothes and tearing a large chunk of flesh from his waist.

Crowley watched the scene calmly, as if he hadn't seen anything. He gave a casual greeting and left with Krul and Horn.

Luke watched the two fight. The scene he had seen in the illusion yesterday surfaced in his mind, and his fists clenched involuntarily.

Luke flickered between the two, stopping the fight from continuing.

"Ferid, recover first."

Krul tilted her head, looking at Luke in confusion.

I clearly have the upper hand. Why are you breaking this up?

Ferid got a moment to breathe. Though equally confused, he said with a smile.

"Luke, I didn't expect you to take my side, haha."

"Once you've recovered, fight me."

"Huh?"
