Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Chapter 8: The Void and the Chaos

Ran stood up from the wooden table. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Awakening Stone. The smooth, egg-shaped rock rested in his palm, emitting a soft, pulsing white light that pushed back the growing shadows of the evening.

Randolf, Aurora, and Mia all leaned in closer over the table. The entire base went completely quiet, except for the gentle, rhythmic crashing of the ocean waves against the sand.

"Are you ready, son?" Randolf asked, his voice low and serious.

"I'm ready," Ran nodded. He looked at his bouncing little sister. "Once I finish, we are going to awaken Mia next. Her body is Level 10 now, which means she is strong enough to handle the magical energy without getting hurt."

"Wow! Really?!" Mia clapped her hands, her eyes sparkling.

"Really," Ran smiled. "But let me go first to make sure it's safe."

Ran closed his eyes and gripped the stone tightly with both hands. He focused all his mental energy into the center of his chest, pushing his will and his desires straight into the magical catalyst.

The stone responded violently.

It turned freezing cold, then burning hot in a matter of seconds. A heavy, massive surge of energy shot up Ran's arms and directly into his heart. It felt like he had just grabbed a live electrical wire.

Suddenly, Ran's consciousness was violently ripped away from his physical body.

He found himself standing in a place of absolute, crushing blackness. There was no ground beneath his feet, no sky above his head, and no sound. It was an empty, endless void. Oddly, Ran didn't feel afraid. He just felt a deep, overwhelming sense of anticipation.

Then, the darkness shifted. Two massive eyes snapped open in the void.

They were giant—easily the size of mountains—and filled with a terrifying, ancient power that literally froze the air. The eyes glared down at Ran, staring straight through his soul. The pressure was so immense it felt like gravity had been multiplied by a thousand. It felt like the entity was reading every single memory he had, from his past life on Earth to his struggles in Glory City.

The giant eyes stared for exactly two seconds.

Then, a voice that sounded like grinding tectonic plates echoed in his mind.

"Suffer... and Conquer."

The eyes vanished, and the dark space collapsed inward, rushing toward Ran like a tidal wave.

Ran snapped his eyes open, taking a sharp, ragged breath. He was back at the wooden table on the beach. Sweat dripped down his forehead, and his hands were shaking slightly.

A dark, semi-transparent screen flickered to life in front of him. It wasn't the standard blue of the normal system, nor the gold of his Golden Finger. This screen was pitch-black with glowing, blood-red text.

[Congratulations! You have successfully awakened a Chaos Mythical Martial Innate Soul.]

[Tier: Mythical]

[Primary Attribute: Darkness / Chaos]

Ran stared at the word "Mythical." His heart skipped a beat, and he couldn't stop the massive grin spreading across his face. In this world, a Rare soul made you a noble. An Epic soul made you a general. A Legendary soul made you a king. But Mythical? That was the stuff of ancient legends.

The screen shifted, displaying his Level 10 abilities.

[Skills Unlocked:]

[1. Chaos Armor (Active): Wraps the user in a layer of solidified chaos energy. This provides near-absolute physical defense and intimidates all enemies of a lower level.]

[2. Chaos Power (Passive/Active): Allows the user to naturally absorb 5% of the ambient dark energy from the environment. This energy can be used to drastically boost physical strength, infuse weapons with darkness, or fire destructive blasts.]

"Ran? What happened?" Aurora asked worriedly, seeing his wild grin.

"Stand back a bit," Ran said, stepping away from the table. "Let me show you."

Ran focused his mind, drawing on the new energy in his chest. "Chaos Armor."

Instantly, Ran's own shadow on the sandy floor began to bubble and boil like hot tar. The shadow leaped up his legs, wrapping around him like thick, black smoke. The smoke rapidly hardened into solid, pitch-black metal plates. Heavy chest armor, spiked shoulder guards, and sharp arm braces formed flawlessly over his clothes. Glowing red lines pulsed across the dark metal like breathing lava.

A terrifying, heavy aura exploded out of Ran. The air grew freezing cold, and the sand beneath his boots turned a dead, ashen grey.

Mia shrieked, instantly jumping behind her mother's legs. Her eyes were wide with genuine terror. Even Randolf, a brave man who had worked in construction his whole life, swallowed hard and took a heavy step backward. The boy standing in front of them didn't look like Ran; he looked like a demonic warlord from a nightmare.

Seeing his mother pull Mia closer to protect her, Ran suddenly snapped out of his power trip and realized what he was doing.

"Cancel!" Ran shouted.

The dark metal melted back into smoke and sank harmlessly into his shadow. The freezing pressure vanished, leaving only the warm smell of the ocean.

Ran rubbed the back of his neck, looking highly embarrassed. "Sorry! I'm so sorry. The defense is amazing, but I guess the dark aura is a bit much for family time."

Randolf let out a massive breath he had been holding. He wiped sweat from his brow. "That... that is incredible, son. That armor looks completely indestructible. But please, warn us before you do that again."

Before Ran could apologize again, a sharp, ringing bell echoed in his mind. The golden screen of his Golden Finger appeared over the red one.

[UNIQUE SYSTEM ACTIVATED]

[Judgment: Awakening a Mythical Innate Soul on the very first try is an extremely rare event in the multiverse.]

[Reward: 1x Rare Artifact Summon Ticket.]

[Bonus Reward: 1x Rare Martial Soul Tier Enhancement Potion.]

Ran's eyes widened. A Tier Enhancement Potion! It was the exact, ultra-rare item needed to evolve a Rare soul into an Epic soul. He didn't have to wait years to make his family stronger. He could do it right now.

"Because I am the Lord of this world, the system just gave me a bonus reward for awakening," Ran lied smoothly, not wanting to confuse them with his transmigrator secrets. He opened his inventory and pulled out a golden paper ticket.

"System, use the Rare Artifact Summon Ticket," Ran commanded out loud.

The ticket floated into the air and burst into a brilliant, sparkling blue light. When the light faded, a beautifully carved golden bracelet dropped into Ran's hand.

[Item: Strength Bracelet]

[Tier: Rare]

[Effect: Adds +20 to Strength when worn.]

"Dad, I want you to wear this," Ran said, holding it out. "When you go back to the city to sell our materials, you will be carrying a lot of money. You need this extra strength to protect yourself from greedy thugs and desperate thieves."

Randolf hesitated, but seeing the serious look in Ran's eyes, he nodded. He took the jewelry and slid the bracelet onto his thick wrist. Instantly, his muscles tensed and bulged slightly. "I feel... incredibly light. I feel like I could punch a hole through a brick wall. Thank you, son."

"Now for the best part," Ran grinned, pulling a small glass bottle filled with glowing blue liquid from his inventory. He looked at his little sister. "Mia, take the Awakening Stone. Once your soul appears, drink this potion immediately."

Mia nervously grabbed the white stone. Unlike Ran's scary, violent awakening, hers was incredibly gentle. A soft blue light wrapped around her, and a beautiful blue butterfly made of pure mana fluttered out of her chest, landing softly on her nose.

"It's a Rare tier Butterfly!" Mia cheered, reading her system screen.

"Drink the potion!" Ran urged.

Mia uncorked the bottle and swallowed the glowing liquid. Instantly, the blue butterfly shined like a miniature star. The light shifted from blue to a deep, rich purple—the universal color of the Epic Tier. The butterfly grew slightly larger, leaving a trail of sparkling purple dust as it flew around her head.

"My soul evolved!" Mia cried happy tears, reading her new screen. "It is now an Epic tier Spirit Queen Butterfly! My healing dust cures poison, and my pollen can paralyze enemies for three seconds!"
