Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Prologue

[— YEAR 2051, CITY OF VAREN — 7:42 AM]

~ring~ ring~

Astharist Building Upper Complex—

A scene emerged where a man of about 21 was sleeping soundly, without any regard for the alarm sound ringing from his smartphone, resting on the table beside his bed.

The room appeared in a way that told anyone that the man had gone through a sorrowful night, with tears still dried under his eyes.

It was no wonder, in others' eyes, that the man had gone through a heartbreak the previous night and, in an attempt to console himself, had drunk heavily to drown the pain.

As the man opened his eyes to the rays of the morning sky, he twitched a little, then slowly sat up on the bed and turned off the alarm ringing continuously.

The man looked tired, as if to show his hangover from yesterday. He slowly stood up and went to wash his face, trying to wake up even a little.

When the man splashed water on his face and looked in the mirror, what appeared in the reflection was slightly long black hair for a male, with a little touch of green, sharp eyebrows, emerald green eyes, and a small mole under his left eye. The man appeared to be charming, but the dark circles under his eyes ruined the expression, making him look very sad.

Looking at the mirror, the man smiled slightly and sighed.

He was Kyle Mercer, the only son of William Mercer and the heir to Mercer's Corporation, worth 30 trillion on paper. The real worth was not made public, but it was enough that even a single word from his father could influence major decisions in the country. People in power knew the name Mercer, and most preferred not to stand against it.

Some say he has what most people could ever dream of in life, but even with that, he still could not get a—

~ring~

A call came on his phone, and seeing the caller ID, he picked up.

"~sigh~"

"Hey Kyle, what happened yesterday? You suddenly left Martha's party," from the other side came a worried voice.

"Nothing happened, Adam. Don't worry," he replied in a tired voice.

"You brat, do you think I know you from just yesterday? Speak what happened or else I am going to Uncle William."

Hearing his father mentioned and not wanting to worry him, as after his mother died his father cared too much for him, he replied—

"We broke up."

"Wai— wha— seriously?" the other side said in a very flustered tone, like he could not believe what he heard.

"Yep, you heard it right. Then bye," Kyle said, not wanting to say anything anymore.

"Wai— wait bro, you okay?" Adam asked, this time very serious.

Hearing his serious tone, Kyle calmed down a little. No matter what happens in life, this friend of his always comes to ask about him. Becoming a little calm, Kyle replied, "Yes, I am fine."

While saying this, he came back to the room and looked around, then laughed awkwardly, as the way his room looked clearly showed he was not okay at all yesterday.

"I am coming to you in a bit with your favorite bottle of alcohol," from the noises on the other side, Kyle could imagine his friend hurrying out.

"Nah man, I am fine for sure, don't worry," Kyle replied to his friend, as he thought he might need more time alone as of now.

"You sure, man? I mean, you really love—"

"Yeah," he said, cutting off Adam before he completed the sentence.

"If you say so, man. But be aware, if you need anything, just call me, okay?"

"Yeah man, I will." Feeling a little better than before, after a few more words with Adam, the call ended.

He sighed again after the call ended and called the cleaner for help with cleaning up the room. While doing so, he still contemplated his emotions. His feelings were a little astray since yesterday, and he didn't even know what to do as of now.

He suddenly started to remember each memory he had with her.

"What are you doing, man..." he shook his head, and to clear his mind, he started scrolling on his phone. He noticed that his mobile battery was almost dead. He remembered that his phone had already been about die yesterday when he left the party, and he hadn't charged it since.

Thinking of this, he put his phone on charge and went to grab some food in the meantime.

And as he closed the door, suddenly his phone lit up and showed a notification.

At 9:30 AM, he returned home and put down the things on the table, as on the way he had decided to shop a little. He went to the fridge to grab a water bottle and drank. After that, he sat on the couch in his room.

His eyes went to his phone, which seemed to still be on charge. He stood up quietly, picked up his phone, and checked if he had any messages. To no surprise, he had received messages from his friends asking what happened yesterday.

He once again sat on the couch and started replying to his friends one by one. After replying to all of them, Kyle saw one more notification in the notification bar of his phone, which showed that an app had been installed.

But he didn't remember installing any kind of app.

Curiously, he decided to check the app, though suspicion arose in his heart that the app might be a scam or fraud. The app looked suspiciously strange, as it didn't even have a name—only a logo, which was weird. The logo of the app was countless stars in space.

Even after that, he decided to check the app out, as he was not afraid of getting scammed. His father had a team of specialists that could track any kind of person, so he was not worried at all. If he ever got scammed, his father's team would catch the person or group responsible. As for what happens to such people, his father had always told him not to think about it and just go on with his day, so he never gave it any thought.

Thinking about how his father used to protect and dote on him—even when he went to buy ice cream—he chuckled, and then opened the app.

After clicking on the app, he saw a welcome message pop up.
