Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Training (2)

The room was silent except for the ticking of the clock on the wall.

He stood in front of the mirror, staring at a version of himself that no longer felt entirely true.

The same routine waiting for him tomorrow morning.

A decision had been made in the quiet hours of the night, In that moment, he had chosen the person he wanted to become.

His habits still pulled at him like gravity, even his own body seemed to carry the memory of every past fear, every old failure, every familiar limitation.

It felt almost cruel, how could something so life-changing leave no visible mark?

His mind was learning a new language, his body was learning a new rhythm his identity was being rewritten in places no mirror could reflect.

What once looked like emptiness was not emptiness now.

The moment you choose who you will become, your trajectory shifts and energy reorganizes, but the external world does not catch up immediately.

This is the temporal gap between intention and embodiment.

The quiet passage where your becoming proves itself to your body.

It's a sacred gap the unseen stretch where your nervous system, identity, habits, perception, and self-trust must renegotiate reality to match the future you have chosen to claim.

Your intention has already rewritten your direction, yet your body still remembers your past, your environment still reflects your old agreements, and your mirror still shows yesterday's self.

This delay is not failure or resistance.

It is recalibration.

It is the slow and silent labor of becoming believable to yourself.

Here, your future is learning to feel safe inside your present form.

And until this inner coherence is built, the outer world cannot confirm and create what you have already decided.

"To be happy, you must eliminate two things," Hyunjin looked at himself in the mirror "The fear of a bad future and the memory of a bad past." Then Hyunjin washed his face.

---

(Two Days Later)

Hyunjin sat quietly in front of his desk, elbows resting on his knees, fingers loosely interlocked.

The room was silent.

"It's been a 2 weeks since I hit evolution.." His eyes were calm

"and since then, nothing." He leaned back, exhaling.

"No matter how much I train, it doesn't work anymore." His gaze drifted toward his bruised knuckles.

"These methods, they've already pushed me to the limit." A frown appeared.

"My adaptation it stopped responding, because there's nothing to adapt."

Silence filled the room again.

"So this is it." His eyes narrowed "The only way forward now."

"Is to fight someone on my level or stronger, because I have surpassed the human baseline limitation with training, only in my first evolution."

He stood up.

He walked toward the door, grabbing his jacket on the way.

A smirk formed on his lips "Guess it's time to stop training alone." His hand rested on the doorknob.

"It's time for the hangout." He stepped out.

----

The café buzzed with chatter and the clinking of cups.

Zack leaned back in his chair, stretching lazily, vasco was loudly talking with his hands as usual, while Jace listened with a tired expression, Jay sat silently beside them, occasionally sipping his drink.

Across the table, Zoe and Mira were chatting, while Crystal Choi sat more composed.

Big Daniel glanced at the door "We should wait a bit." he said.

Crystal tilted her head "Wait? For who?"

Daniel smiled faintly "There's one more person coming."

"Who?" she asked, curious now.

Before Daniel could answer, Zack cut in "Our new classmate."

Crystal blinked "New? When?"

Zack scratched the back of his head "When you guys were.. kidnapped that day, he transferred into J-High right after."

He pointed around casually "We met him about two weeks before that actually.. here, at this café."

Crystal's interests, but before she could ask more..

Click.

The café door opened.

All eyes instinctively turned.

Hyunjin stepped in, same calm, nonchalant expression.

But.. different.

His frame looked broader, more defined, his posture carried a quiet weight, and even his face seemed sharper than before.

For a second, no one spoke.

Hyunjin's lips curved into a small smile "Yo guys."

"Hyunjin.." Zack said.

"Hyunjin!" Vasco stood up halfway.

"Hey." Daniel greeted warmly.

Hyunjin walked over "Been a while." he said.

"It's been a week," Zack shot back, squinting at him "And why do you look like that?"

Hyunjin raised an eyebrow "Like what?"

Zack leaned forward, pointing "You changed again, in one week, that's not normal man."

Vasco nodded "Yeah, You look stronger and bigger."

Even Jace adjusted his glasses while reading a book, then studying him carefully "He's right."

Hyunjin let out a short laugh, scratching his head "Nothing crazy, just did some exercise."

Zack stared at him, completely unconvinced "That's not 'some exercise.'"

Meanwhile, Crystal's gaze stayed on Hyunjin.

Analytical.

He's built, she noted internally, that kind of body.. it's trained.

She stood slightly and gave a polite nod "I'm Crystal."

Hyunjin met her eyes, then smiled lightly "Hyunjin."

Definitely not normal, she thought, she sat back down, still observing "So where do you live?" she asked.

"About ten minutes from here." Hyunjin replied.

"Really?" she said "That's close."

Then she asked "What do your parents do?"

Hyunjin didn't hesitate "They're dead." Simple and no emotion.

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

Zoe's expression softened, Mira looked down, Zack froze.

Vasco's tears instantly filled his eyes "Hyunjin!" he sniffed loudly, standing up and grabbing Hyunjin's shoulders "Don't worry! You're not alone anymore! I'm here for you!!"

Jace sighed "Here he goes.."

Hyunjin blinked once then chuckled "Relax," he said, gently pushing Vasco back down.

Hyunjin leaned back slightly, smirking "If I start crying too, who's gonna stop you?"

A small laugh escaped Zoe then

Zack smirked "You're weirdly fine about it."

"Not really," Hyunjin replied "Just used to it."

Crystal watched him closely "Sorry." she said quietly.

Hyunjin shook his head, smiling "It's nothing."

...

A little later, the group stepped out of the café together.

"Alright," Vasco clapped his hands "Horror theme park."

"Let's go." Zoe smiled, Mira nodded, excited.

Crystal adjusted her hair slightly.

Hyunjin walked alongside them, hands in his pockets..

Zack, however.. was sweating.

Badly.

"Hey," Hyunjin said, glancing at him "You good?"

Zack forced a laugh "Yeah totally."

"I just remembered something."

Jace smirked "Haunted house?"

Zack's face stiffened "Don't."

Vasco grinned widely "Oh yeah didn't you run out screaming last time?"

"I DIDN'T RUN!" Zack snapped.

"You cried and pissed yourself too." Jace added.

"I DID NOT!"

Hyunjin looked at Zack for a second..

Then smirked "This should be interesting."

Zack narrowed his eyes "Don't get any ideas."

Hyunjin didn't reply.
