Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Enemies on a Narrow Road

"Are you still thinking about that little boy from back then? So many years have passed, he probably forgot about you long ago."

The kind-hearted woman sighed.

Xiao Kou's pretty face turned cold instantly, and she said coldly, "Think of him? I should hate him instead. He abandoned me to go live as a rich family's child and enjoy life. When the orphanage dissolved back then, I begged him, but he didn't even come to see me once. What right does a guy like that have to make me think of him?"

Her words were filled with deep resentment.

The woman said shamefully, "It's Mom's fault for being useless and holding you back. You've suffered these past few years."

Seeing this, the young girl hurriedly grasped the woman's hand, "Mom, don't say that. If you hadn't adopted me, who knows, Xiao Kou might have been wandering the streets long ago. I should be the one thanking you. Besides, isn't life getting better now? We will definitely be better and better."

I will never be worse than him.

The young girl secretly swore in her heart.

Zhang's mother affectionately stroked the young girl's head, "You are our lucky star. If it weren't for you, your father and I would probably still be farming in the countryside; how could we have the life we have now?"

Zhang's mother's heart was filled with relief. She hadn't expected that a small act of kindness back then would bring such a great return. She could afford to hire someone to take care of her paralyzed husband, the burden on her shoulders had been lifted, and she was grateful to the young girl before her to the extreme.

"We are all one family, Mom, don't say these things anymore." The young girl protested.

"Alright, alright, alright, Mom won't say it, okay?" The woman smiled, then showed a trace of worry, "Mom is from the countryside and doesn't understand anything. You have to take care of the business matters yourself, Xiao Kou. Can you handle it? It won't affect your studies too much, will it?"

"Mom, just rest assured, I will handle it well." Zhang Shikou nodded full of confidence.

"By the way, Mom heard from your dad that you plan to transfer schools?" Zhang's mother suddenly asked.

Zhang Shikou's expression was a bit unnatural. She nodded and pretended to be calm as she smiled, "Yes, we moved here, and it's a bit inconvenient to study at the original school since the distance is too far. So, I plan to transfer to the school closest to us."

"Xiao Kou can handle her own affairs; Mom trusts you. By the way, the porridge is still cooking, so Mom will head out first." Zhang's mother didn't notice her daughter's abnormality, nodded kindly, and turned to walk out of the room.

The smile on Zhang Shikou's face slowly disappeared and turned into resentment. Thinking about the school she was about to transfer to, which was the high school that person was attending, her mood could never calm down. The desire for revenge almost drowned out her reason.

...

"Xiao Ke, did you not sleep well last night?"

Watching Alex, who was distracted while eating breakfast, Freya asked with concern.

Alex was stunned for a moment, stared at Freya, hesitated slightly, but still didn't say what was on his mind. He said, "I played games too late and didn't sleep well."

"How about I ask for leave from your teacher for you, so you can go back and catch up on sleep?"

Freya said considerately.

"No need." Alex felt it was unnecessary, "I'm not that tired, I'll just nap during the break."

"Alright, then pay attention. If you are too sleepy, just sleep. Don't force yourself; your health is important. Also, don't worry about the teacher giving you trouble." Freya urged him.

Alex thought to himself, "You really are a good mommy."

Today, even Kiara noticed that Alex was somewhat absent-minded and asked him indirectly what had happened. Alex realized that his behavior had worried those around him, so he reined in his outward emotions.

Arriving at school, he parted ways with Kiara and walked towards his classroom. When passing by a class, he heard a voice inside say, "Li Jingchu, let me copy your homework."

It was actually the voice of Yan Bianman.

Alex turned his head to look and was stunned. The girl he met on the rooftop yesterday was sitting by the window, and her deskmate was actually Yan Bianman.

Yan Bianman had her hand on Li Jingchu's shoulder with a smile on her face.

Li Jingchu seemed a bit angry, but the words she spoke were timid, "I haven't finished mine either. How about you wait a while? I'll sneakily finish it before class and then let you copy it."

Yan Bianman was surprised, "You actually forgot to do your homework? The sun must have risen from the west. Speaking of which, are you that afraid of me? We've been deskmates for so long, and I've never bullied you, have I? Meiyuan misses you so much. She doesn't even know you're attending this high school too. You've really done a good job hiding from her; if she knew about you, she would definitely look for you to catch up."

Li Jingchu was scared pale, hurriedly pleading in a low voice with a bitter expression, "Sister Man, please don't tell her, I beg you. I'll give you my breakfast to eat, I don't have any money. The breakfast is dumplings I made myself; they are very delicious. I'll bring them to you tomorrow."

"You're doing it again." Yan Bianman shook her head speechlessly, "You have too deep a prejudice against us. When we were young, everyone was ignorant, although I am very sorry about it. Let's go meet Meiyuan at lunch. Once you see her, you'll know that it wasn't intentional back then; she's just an idiot. You can scold her to her face and it'll be fine."

Yan Bianman laughed and cursed with a vulgarity.

Miao Meiyuan hurriedly pretended not to hear and turned her head away, determined to run far away after class. Suddenly, she was stunned as she locked eyes with Alex, who was standing outside the window watching her.

The two made eye contact for a moment. Li Jingchu's face flushed, and she hurriedly turned her head back, sitting upright like a primary school student, staring at the blackboard with extreme seriousness.

Yan Bianman didn't notice Alex. She was boredly scrolling through her phone, humming the tune of "I MISS YOU". So, Li Jingchu had learned to sing this song from her.

Alex knew that because of yesterday's incident, his impression in Li Jingchu's mind wasn't very good, so he didn't go out of his way to greet her and returned to his own class.

Li Jingchu noticed he had left, let out a deep sigh of relief, her chest heaving, and she blushed again.

After class at noon, Li Jingchu took advantage of when Yan Bianman wasn't paying attention and snuck out, planning to find a place to hide. But her stomach was truly starving, so in the end, she had to sneak into the cafeteria, use her meal card to get a serving of white rice and a serving of vegetables, and went to the second floor to find the most secluded corner to eat.

She hadn't eaten breakfast, and her stomach had long been growling. At this moment, smelling the aroma of the food, she couldn't wait and buried her head to eat ravenously. Just as she was stuffing her mouth full of rice, she suddenly heard someone say, "Is this all you eat in a day?"

Li Jingchu looked up, her mouth open, staring blankly at Alex who had suddenly appeared before her.

Her gaze moved down, landing on the tray in Alex's hand. On it, not only were there various "famous dishes" from the cafeteria, but also a large chicken leg and a can of black-bone chicken soup, the fragrant scent drifting towards her.

Li Jingchu subconsciously swallowed her saliva, then realized what was happening, her face flushing red as she anxiously tried to stand up, intending to run away.

At this moment, Alex's expression changed drastically, noticing the line of text "Accidental Fate Card accidentally triggered" appearing in his field of vision.

He hurriedly shouted, "Sit down, don't move!"
