Waking up, Wenzhi still felt like he was freezing.
There was a noticeable difference this time, though. The cold wasn't creeping into his bones the way it usually did, and breathing no longer felt like dragging ice through his lungs. It wasn't gone, not even close, but it was bearable.
He slowly pushed himself upright, blinking around the room. "...Xinyuan?"
Silence answered him.
As his vision cleared completely, he climbed out of bed. His legs protested immediately, sore enough that walking felt awkward, but if he was being honest... this was exactly what he'd wanted.
He rubbed the back of his neck, running his fingers through his messy hair before noticing the large lunch box sitting neatly on the table. Walking over in nothing but layers of oversized clothes and thick socks, he opened it.
The moment the lid lifted, a holographic screen flickered to life.
I'll be back soon, baby. Eat properly and drink lots of water.
