Scarlett looked at the old leather document case in her trembling hands as dust covered every inch of it, but the craftsmanship was unmistakable. It had once belonged to someone who had valued it enough to preserve important things inside
She let out an uneven breath
"Daddy...."
She brushed more dust away with her scarf
The buckle had almost fallen apart with age as she carefully loosened it, the leather cracked loudly
She almost closed it again for a second but she completely stood still
Some parts of her were afraid that whatever was inside would hurt more than the memories already buried in the house while another part of her needed the truth as she slowly opened it
Several documents lay inside with a faded pen, a family photograph, and beneath them was a thick brown envelope
The photograph slipped onto the floor gently and she bent down to pick it up carefully
It was a very old photograph that was taken almost twenty-six years ago
