"GET HIM" one of the wardens shouted.
Well… that worked better than expected.
"Okay okay stay calm" I muttered while slowly stepping back. "Everything is under control."
That was a lie.
A very big lie.
A spell rushed toward me.
I barely had time to react before throwing myself to the side. The attack hit the wall behind me, cracking the stone.
"Yeah no I am definitely going to die" I whispered.
The prisoner was still there, staring at me.
Alright. Hero moment.
I grabbed the first thing within reach, which happened to be a metal tray, and threw it straight at one of the guards.
It hit his face.
Direct hit.
"Oh wow that actually worked."
The second guard rushed at me immediately. I ducked under his arm and pushed him forward. He crashed into the first one.
Chaos. Beautiful chaos.
"RUN" I shouted to the prisoner.
He hesitated for a second… then started running.
Good. One part of the plan succeeded.
Now the difficult part.
Not getting caught too early.
More footsteps echoed in the corridor. A lot more.
Oh come on already.
I turned around… and froze.
At least six guards were rushing toward me.
"Okay new plan" I said. "Improvisation."
I pulled out another glyph card with trembling hands.
I activated it and slammed it onto the ground.
A flash of light burst out.
The guards stopped for a moment, blinded.
"YES."
I did not waste a second and started running down the corridor.
The alarms were still blaring. Doors were closing all around me.
This place was turning into a maze.
Perfect for escaping.
Or for getting trapped.
Fifty fifty.
I turned at full speed into a corridor.
Wait.
That voice…
No way.
Two silhouettes stood at the end of the hallway.
One wearing a kind of skull on her head that looked like a wild animal, with a confident smile.
The other had wide eyes and overflowing curiosity.
Luz was standing at the end of the corridor with King on her shoulder.
I immediately hid behind a pillar. Oh it looks like it is starting.
Luz was talking to the prisoners.
"Why are you imprisoned" she asked.
A girl with pointy ears answered simply.
"Because the head of the prison says we are too weird for society."
"What but that is not fair" Luz exclaimed.
Another prisoner, who looked like a candy with red hair and a very big nose, said, "This is all a conspiracy. The world is a simulation."
"She is a conspiracy theorist" the girl with pointy ears said.
Seeing this, Luz did not understand.
"What is wrong with being weird" she said while looking at a wanted poster of Eda.
At that moment, heavy footsteps could be heard coming from the other side of the corridor.
"It is the prison chief, hide quickly" said one of the prisoners to Luz.
There was an empty cage near her. The bars seemed like they could be lifted from below.
Hearing the footsteps getting closer, she did not hesitate. She dropped Eda's wanted poster and lifted the bars.
She got inside and the bars fell back down immediately.
At that moment, a tall imposing figure approached.
He wore the same outfit as the guards, although his seemed slightly different, still with a hood and a mask shaped like a bird's beak.
He saw the wanted poster of Eda that Luz had dropped in her haste.
He grabbed it with his left hand, looked at the image, and said, "The Owl Lady… it will not be long before I catch you."
There was irritation in his voice.
His right arm transformed into a hammer and he struck a nearby cell.
That cell was none other than the one where Luz and King were hiding.
I was watching the scene behind me, still hidden behind a pillar.
Seeing all of this, the only thing I could think was…
Damn.
