Chapter 35 - The Science of War

The Science of War

1. The New Battlefield

Nathan wiped the blood from his lip as the first wave of government forces surged toward them. The hybrid soldier had left, but its presence had changed everything.

They weren't just fighting soldiers anymore.

They were fighting science.

Exo-suits with qi-dampening fields.

Weapons that drained energy rather than inflicted damage.

Nanite injections that allowed soldiers to absorb and redirect spiritual force.

The military had adapted.

If the Guardians wanted to win, they had to do the same.

Nathan glanced at Li Na and Gorampa, both standing amidst the ruins of their battlefield.

"We can't just fight them with brute force," he said. "They're using technology to enhance qi. We need to think bigger."

Li Na exhaled. "You mean... use their own logic against them?"

Gorampa nodded. "They have blended technology and qi. But they have done so with a rigid, structured approach. If we break the framework, we shatter their entire strategy."

Nathan grinned. "Then let's do it."

2. Rewriting the Rules of Qi

They retreated into the underground tunnels beneath the settlement, where Mira and the remaining resistance fighters had gathered.

"We need to approach this like them," Nathan explained, pacing. "Not just as fighters, but as engineers, physicists, and tacticians."

Li Na folded her arms. "Qi has always followed a natural flow, but we've only ever used it through instinct and tradition. The military is forcing it into artificial structures."

Mira adjusted her gloves. "So let's break their structure."

Nathan slammed his fist into his palm. "We have to treat qi like a science. Not just energy—but something we can manipulate at a fundamental level."

Gorampa exhaled. "Then we must rewrite everything we know about how it works."

3. The Experiment Begins

Li Na gathered those in the settlement who had started to awaken their abilities.

"We're not just training to fight," she told them. "We're training to evolve."

Nathan sketched formulas into the dirt, using old engineering principles.

"We need to create new forms of qi manipulation, ones that aren't bound by traditional techniques. What if instead of just channeling qi into attacks, we focused on structural control—manipulating electromagnetic fields, molecular bonds, thermal conductivity?"

Mira grinned. "You mean science magic."

Li Na nodded. "Exactly."

And so, the training changed.

Instead of focusing on brute force, they studied how qi could be shaped like an energy field.

How it could disrupt electrical currents in exo-suits.

How it could invert kinetic force, turning their enemies' own strength against them.

How they could encode qi into materials, making armor and weapons that could shift dynamically in combat.

It wasn't just cultivation anymore.

It was evolution.

4. The First Test

The military returned one week later.

The hybrid soldier led them, but this time, Nathan and the others were ready.

Instead of attacking directly, Mira threw a tiny, qi-infused stone into the ground.

The moment it landed—gravity shifted.

The soldiers stumbled, their exo-suits failing to recalibrate in time.

Nathan grinned. "Qi distortion field. Just a little tweak to how the ley lines interact with physics."

One of the soldiers tried to fire—but the bullets curved away before reaching them.

Li Na smirked. "Magnetic qi redirection. You're going to have to try harder."

The hybrid soldier lunged forward—

And Gorampa disappeared.

A second later, he reappeared behind it, having bypassed the entire battlefield.

Nathan blinked. "Wait… what the hell did you just do?"

Gorampa's eyes gleamed. "Qi resonance tunneling. I phased my qi out of sync with this reality for a fraction of a second."

Nathan whistled. "We're really breaking all the rules, huh?"

The hybrid soldier turned, processing. Adapting.

But it was too late.

Nathan dropped into a stance—and the earth beneath the hybrid soldier became liquid.

It sank.

Right into a trap lined with suppression fields.

Li Na smirked. "Thanks for the lesson, but I think we're ahead of the class now."

5. The New War

The battle didn't last much longer.

The military was forced to retreat—their rigid combat methods unable to counter the Guardians' new tactics.

Nathan wiped sweat from his brow. "That was round one."

Li Na exhaled. "They're going to adapt. Just like us."

Gorampa nodded. "Which is why we must stay ahead."

Mira adjusted her jacket. "Well then, we better start designing our next trick."

6. General Caldwell's Response

Far away, in a war room deep within a hidden facility, General Caldwell watched the footage of his soldiers being outmaneuvered.

His expression was unreadable.

A scientist beside him looked visibly nervous.

"They've… changed how qi interacts with reality," the scientist stammered. "They're using principles that we never accounted for. Their abilities are now… unpredictable."

Caldwell exhaled slowly.

"Then we take it from them."

The scientist frowned. "Sir?"

Caldwell's gaze was cold, calculating.

"We've been trying to suppress their power."

He leaned forward.

"Maybe it's time we start stealing it."

7. The Eclipse Queen's Interest

In the depths of the void, the Eclipse Queen watched.

Her dark lips curled into a smirk.

"They learn fast," she mused. "Much faster than expected."

She turned to one of her advisors. "Are the primordial anchors still intact?"

The advisor nodded. "Yes, Your Majesty."

The Queen's gaze darkened.

"Then let's see if they can learn fast enough."

She raised a hand—

And across the world, ancient artifacts long buried in forgotten places began to stir.
