Malcolm was anxious yet wise. "The sky was dark that day, and I was seen by a woman wearing a long coat, with black hair and a knife in her hand. And then..."
Thea listened with an intrigued expression. In the first half of the story, he was talking about Mrs. Shiva, right? "Dad, you can continue," she signaled positively to Malcolm from an angle Tommy didn't notice. "That means you're really okay..."
However, Malcolm was distressed and couldn't go on. He held himself back, fearing they might ask another embarrassing question, and used dizziness as an excuse to leave.
Not wanting to reveal the truth, he simply said goodbye to Thea and Tommy and left, reaching out to various media outlets.
Things went well. Thea and Tommy's background played a crucial role. The media, upon receiving the invitation, confirmed their attendance at the big event.
...
Three days later, the Star City Police Department and Queen Group formally held a signing and gift-giving event. On this occasion, the protagonist wouldn't be Thea, as the president was still Moira.
Behind the police scene, Moira chatted with her mother, and neither of them needed to worry about money, as the good reputation they had earned was worth more than any cost.
As she watched her mother speak about the dedication and sacrifice of the police for Star City, Thea admired Moira's political skill. Her mother's eloquent and inspiring words echoed like a gentle breeze, captivating everyone before they even realized it. Thea thought that if she ever entered politics, this would be an excellent starting point.
Not wanting to steal her mother's spotlight, Thea dressed casually, swapping her formal suit for a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, with a ponytail that highlighted her long hair.
Sitting next to Thea was Felicity. She hated these kinds of political events, but, bored, she decided to accompany her friend. The two whispered to each other, sharing secrets and plans.
"Have you still not solved the missile problem? What's the point of flying fast without weapons?"
"I'm trying, but it's complicated. To access the weapons, three people need to authorize it, and there's a daily-changing lock code. It's very difficult to handle."
"I can crack the password and alter the contract. Your software is weak... Don't look at me like that, I'm serious. You just need to sign."
"Do you think it'll work? Let's start with the skateboard. I can steal some guns from gangsters... But the missiles..." Thea pondered, searching for the best solution.
"It's an idea, but how do you deal with the gangsters?" Felicity asked, making a punching gesture. "They won't just hand over the guns."
"I can shoot arrows. Believe me, the effective range of a pistol is only 50 meters, while my arrows can reach 100 meters without making a sound..."
"A female Robin Hood flying through the skies? What an incredible image!" Felicity's eyes sparkled at the mention of adventure, imagining herself riding toward danger.
Meanwhile, the event continued. Moira planned to expand her influence, and nearly the entire city was present. To ensure the safety of high-ranking officials, the police inspector took full control of the city, bringing all officers back to the agency. Despite Detective Lance's opposition, he eventually gave in.
Just as Moira concluded her speech and announced the dinner, the venue's lights went out with a snap, plunging the place into complete darkness.
"What's happening? John, come protect me!"
"Darling, come to me, quick!"
"Police, someone stole my purse!"
Chaos ensued. The scene was familiar, like in so many movies and TV shows. Thea didn't expect someone to be bold enough to commit a crime in front of 1,500 police officers. She and Felicity stayed in a corner, thinking they'd be safe. Thea closed her eyes, sensed Moira's position, and ran toward her.
"Come with me," Thea said, pulling her mother by the hand. Moira was in the middle of the crowd, and the dark, chaotic environment made movement difficult. Thea barely managed to move two meters.
Just as Thea prepared to use force to clear a path, a figure quickly approached, seemingly targeting Moira's purse.
"What a bold thief! Stealing right in front of us?" Thea thought, outraged.
She placed Moira behind her and assumed a defensive stance. "Stay behind me."
"Be careful," Moira whispered, avoiding drawing the culprits' attention.
The environment was chaotic, and Thea decided to act quickly. She ran toward the figure, realizing the intruder was using infrared equipment, which explained his ability to locate targets in the dark. "This isn't an ordinary thief," she thought.
Determined to protect her mother and the event she had organized, Thea attacked. The intruder, surprised by Thea's skill, tried to counterattack, but she used quick and precise movements to neutralize him.
"You're not getting away," Thea said, keeping the intruder occupied while waiting for the police to arrive.
The intruder, realizing his plan was compromised, tried to flee, but Thea wouldn't allow it. She immobilized him with a series of precise strikes, ensuring he wouldn't cause any more trouble.
When the lights finally came back on, the intruder was on the ground, surrounded by furious police officers. Thea breathed a sigh of relief, knowing she had protected her family and the event.
