Xiao Moxian did end up asking Wang Jingyuan about why she was with Yan Qiufeng on the night of the Lantern Festival—indirectly, of course. The very next day, at their usual tea house, Xiao Moxian casually asked whether she felt lonely or bored during the festivities.
"No, it was quite fun." Wang Jingyuan paused for a moment. "I bumped into Little General Yan, actually. He was also alone, so we explored the festivities together."
"Is that so?" Xiao Moxian still had his pleasant smile and carefree tone, but his fingers tightened around the teacup as the memory of Wang Jingyuan laughing with Yan Qiufeng flashed across his mind again. "What did you two do?"
