Chapter 40 - Judge and Jury

I woke up to Diana jumping up and down on the bed. I asked her politely to stop because she might hurt herself. She happily stopped and Weird asked her to continue. She didn't comply which annoyed him. She explained that she hit her head on the headboard once and I was concerned it would repeat. I took her out to show her a trampoline for her to jump to her heart's content and she squealed with delight.

I was asked not to call him Weird so we held a family hearing in the back terrace. Hattie was the presiding judge and GG was the prosecutor. Di skyped to be my counsel. We argued what name he should get. Because his nickname must never resemble his birth name was the family rule. We argued for hours only taking a break for lunch only to continue till sunset. We promised to continue till we came up with a name we were all pleased with. The next morning Sasha skyped and got the short straw to be the presiding judge and GG was my counsel and Hattie was on the jury and Cole was the prosecutor. We managed to shortlist a few names. Ken doll, Statue, Sword, Shark, Gunn, Canon, Naruto, Ronin, Robin and Squid. He pressed his lips together as he fought not to laugh at the nicknames. He realized that he will only hear his actual name when he is at work this sobered him. He asked that we call him by his real name if we were to see his teammates. We made it clear that his request is denied. This is the name we will address him in public and private. These were house rules that he must abide by. He gave in and pointed at Sword but Sasha mistook where he pointed and declared his name was Ken Doll. He shot up like a bullet and shouted, "I object" everyone laughed and he was told to sit down. Sasha was just yanking his chain. We settled to calling him Gunn.  We sat down for a coffee break before the next trial started and Diana was the first to call him Gunn and he spat out his coffee. He coughed, "You will call me dad. That is non-negotiable." She was sad that she will never be able to call him that but she cooperated without fuss. I suggested she call him Ken Doll this earned me a dirty look but I fearlessly said I will call him Ken Doll when I feel like it. Diana asked why and I clarified, "Before your grandpa died the last thing he gave me was a ken doll. I used to hug when I was scared. You are holding him right now." She looked at the hand me down and smiled, "I like Ken Doll too. But we should only call him that when he is home and not when he is working." His frown turned upside down, "You can call me Ken Doll whenever you feel like. I promise not to be offended." He kissed my hand as Edge skyped to be the presiding judge for the next trial. He clocked in as Sasha clocked out for her training session. She promised to join us on the trip to the Maldives. Her fight was next week which means she will be free and can splurge with us and indulge in all sorts of goodies. We gave each other virtual high fives and she disappeared. Edge was as playful as Sasha was when came to being the judge. He threw GG in holding for laughing during jury duty. We sat and debated back and forth about the importance of keeping old stuff as insurance. We decided to turn a section of the house to be a museum. So that people can come and look at three hundred years old chair we can't sit in. Or four-hundred-year-old table we must never place our coffee cups on. Ken Doll snickered as we discussed the arrangements. He waited till we were done playing Judge Judy to burst out laughing and so did the rest of us. Phillip typed and emailed the approved ruling and Edge signed and emailed it back.
