The two skilled assassins finally arrived at the safehouse, where they were greeted by the enticing aroma of piping hot food waiting at their doorstep. Initially, they were wary of the unexpected culinary surprise, but Muramasa reassured them that he had ordered it in advance.
"I assume that extra burger is for Needle?" Viper quipped, chucking it towards Moth with a mischievous grin, urging him to eat more to help recover from his wound.
"The first aid kit is in the bathroom, but please follow protocol before settling in," Muramasa reminded them over the intercom. Viper retorted, telling him to knock it off.
"Yeah, yeah. Check your surroundings and never trust the safehouse you're handed. For a handler, you're rather excessively cautious," Viper complained. Moth merely chuckled, relieved that he could avoid this duty since the injured party needed rest.
"It's precisely because I'm cautious that you two get to stay alive," Muramasa replied firmly.
"Bet you didn't expect to be battling faceless monsters when you started this operation," Moth joked, and Muramasa sighed through the intercom channels.
"That's my fault. I didn't anticipate the Odd Half Island being involved in this equation," Muramasa explained after conducting research online whilst waiting for the duo to arrive at the safehouse flat.
Apparently, there were numerous testimonies and rumours circulating on various forums about monster sightings from the Odd Half Island. One post, which was eventually taken down but salvaged by Gen, revealed that a family in the undertaker business conducted their own investigation when their son's corpse returned from deployment on the Odd Half Island. They discovered a jagged claw lodged in their son's corpse, contradicting the military's account of his death in service. The family tried to seek more information but was repeatedly denied answers.
When Gen shared the picture in the encrypted group chat, the two assassins immediately recognised it as eerily familiar to something they had fought against just twenty minutes earlier. "Shit, does that mean monsters are now roaming our streets?"
"From what I know, it seems to be an isolated incident," Gen replied, recalling something the System had mentioned previously. He was not allowed to remove the barrier, even though he was creating miracles within the area. This suggested that there might be a higher being with a similar system, enabling such events to occur.
And to think that the Monster Individual Liberation Front (MILF) was trying to recruit him, possibly because they knew Gen could manifest the System within him. But would all Systems be the same, or would each have unique traits?
If he were to deduce the possibility that the person who owned the System causing this had the ability to isolate the area and unleash monsters, that would be actually rather terrifying.
"...So, are you going to tell us how you're actually some kind of god's child or something?" Viper questioned after bandaging Moth's injury, and the two could finally relax. "Cause like that pistol you 'bestowed' me, it literally spew out unlimited ammunition-wait a minute. Where did it go, I was very sure that I put it on the table."
"You might not believe me but it disappear like the movie Matrix. Black digital codes literally emerge out from the gun, causing it to suddenly dissipate into thin air." Moth said as he raised his hands and swore that he did not steal the gun.
"Shit, so that miracle only last an hour?" Viper said and got back to the point while opening her food box. "Anyways, yeah miracle boy. What the actual fuck is happening."
"I'm assuming this has to do with MILF and the Odd Half Island. Because trust me, I didn't have such power until this operation started," Muramasa said through the intercoms, and it seemed that more questions were emerging than answers.
