"What do you mean, she is not rejecting me?" Ash asked and his voice cracked. "I know what I felt. She didn't want me."
Oh, boy. This will be hard. Considering what Zethu went through, I couldn't blame her for not wanting to be near Ash or any other male, but seeing Ash like that broke my heart into a million pieces. Just the thought of Duke not wanting me was gut-wrenching.
'Serina?' Duke's voice gently prodded my mind. 'Is he talking about the mermaid that came with you?'
I nodded in response without removing my gaze from Ash who looked so broken on that bench.
'What will you do?' he asked.
Me? 'What do you think I should do?'
'The mate bond is not only sacred but it's given to us with a reason.'
I turned to look at him. 'What reason?'
Duke smiled a little. 'Don't you remember?'
'Remember, what?' Why was he so cryptic?
