Chapter 23 - V

Khai's lips pursed as he saw Freia jogging away to examine the passageway. He glanced at his hands for abit and smiled ever so slightly. His eyes crinkled into crescents. If any of his associates saw him in this state, their jaws would probably have dropped to the floor seeing as how Khai rarely displayed any emotions behind his veiled mask. There were also a few things on his mind. Freia's curse - who was the one who had placed it on her?

Could it be...? He glanced at the hologram for abit before furrowing his brows.

Freia turned around. He shifted his expressions within a second to his usual feigned state.

"Khai, I'm right! There is a very narrow passageway that we could get out to."

Khai nodded and made his way towards the passageway when something grabbed Freia and she yelled in alarm.

"Careful!" Freia exclaimed as something grabbed her from behind and bit her.

Cursing under his breath, Khai grabbed Freia and quickly tied the veil over her eyes just as he quickly immobilised all her senses with a spell.

He couldn't risk letting her know the truth about his identity, not yet at least.

It was an immortal mythical beast. If dragons were prized beasts, then Immortals were the stuff that legends were made off. It was almost impossible to own one. It's onyx facade glinted against the light and Khai dodged it's stealth attacks several times before drawing his sword.

The huge mythical beast drew back when it recognised the sword. His eyes glinted in recognition and Khai looked at it, perplexed.

"Have we met before?" Khai uttered slowly and the huge creature bobbed its head like an obedient puppy.

Its head lingered closer and it bent down, as though it was waiting for Khai to pat its head.

Khai patted its head reluctantly and it swirled around like a gleeful otter. Khai was momentarily stunned but he recollected himself before glancing at Freia meaningfully.

"Bite me," he ordered and the creature tilted its head in a puppy tilt.

Khai repeated the order sternly and the creature bit Khai before looking guitily at Khai and Khai nodded his head, "Harder," Khai ordered and the creature obeyed with a reluctant grunt.

When Khai saw blood, he freed his hand and limped to Freia's side. Removing the veil, he released Freia who looked at him in alarm and anger.

Alarmed that he was injured.

Angry that he had immobilised her.

"What happened?" Freia asked and Khai pointed at the creature shakily, "It appeared out of nowhere and it refuses to leave me. I'm scared, Freia, I'm afraid of all beasts!" he whined before falling to the ground in fear and the creature glanced at Khai before bending is head lower in shame.

Is his owner ashamed of him? Vio, the immortal beast thought forlornly.

Freia glanced at the beast's reaction and she looked at Khai's fearful expression.

With her arms akimbo, she blew her fringe. Why does it look like the beast was afraid of Khai more than the other way round?

She shook her head. Nah, it can't be. She pulled Khai up from the ground and dusted dirt away from his face. Wait a minute, she realised that she was looking at Kai's face.

Her cheeks turned red immediately as she stared at his face for a good two seconds. Why was her heart even beating that fast?

She supposed it was also caused by the previous owner's remnants of her in her consciousness?

Otherwise, why the hell would she blush when she looked at Kai/Khai?

He was the last person she would ever want to see!

With Khai firmly holding onto her hands and refusing to let go, Freia managed to navigate their way out along with the mystical creature trailing obediently behind.
