This was an absolute nightmare for Peter. His plan to win over his dream girl wasn't going smoothly to begin with, and now his romantic rival had caught him in a compromising situation. This was a huge crisis—way more important than fighting any elemental monster!
Back in the car, Peter was racking his brain for a way to fix this mess. That's when E.D.I.T.H. came in handy. He initially wanted the AI to delete the photos his rival had taken. But since he was still getting used to the new glasses—and E.D.I.T.H. was a bit too literal—it ended up marking his rival as a target for elimination!
The moment Peter gave the command, a satellite in Earth's orbit sprang into action. A drone was deployed, shooting down toward the moving bus at high speed. Without hesitation, it opened fire on the unlucky guy!
Viewers outside the screen were completely stunned.
"What kind of defense system is this?!"
"This is straight-up a kill system!"
On-screen, Peter was just as shocked. He wasn't some lovestruck maniac willing to kill for romance, nor did he want to expose his identity as Spider-Man. He scrambled to stop the drone, barely managing to handle the situation in time. Otherwise, things could've gone catastrophically wrong!
Watching this, the younger Peter outside the screen sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"I messed up again… Ugh, the more I watch, the dumber future me looks!"
Maybe he had already been through enough embarrassment, or maybe it was just his naturally optimistic personality, but Peter had started taking his mistakes in stride—even making fun of himself.
Pietro chuckled. "Hey, I don't think it's a bad thing. Sharing your dumb moments helps people relate to you. Even Tony had plenty of screw-ups."
From these glimpses into the future, it was clear that this version of Spider-Man (Holland's) was clever and quick-witted but also impulsive and inexperienced. He was more of a teenager than a full-fledged superhero.
Of course, that made sense—he was still a kid. It was just that the previous two Spider-Men had already set a certain expectation.
Since Peter's blunder hadn't led to any serious consequences, people could just laugh it off.
Once he dealt with his romantic rival, the bus reached its destination without further incident. While the other students were busy planning their sightseeing, Peter was dragged off by Nick Fury for a meeting about the upcoming battle against the Fire Elemental.
Peter wasn't exactly thrilled about this mission. It was obvious to everyone—his mind was completely preoccupied with winning over MJ.
Maybe he felt that with Mysterio around, there was no need for him to step up. He'd grown used to having Tony's protection and lacked the confidence to take charge.
But since he was already there, he had no choice but to go along with the plan.
So, Peter suited up in a new black stealth suit and waited in position for the Fire Elemental to appear.
At the time, a festival was taking place, with streets packed full of people. Nick had tried to get the local authorities to evacuate the area beforehand, but they refused.
At least Peter's classmates had been sent to a safer location—the opera house—something he insisted on. He didn't want them caught up in danger.
Watching this, Strange raised an eyebrow. "If you didn't want your friends in danger, you should've agreed to Fury's plan from the start and come here alone."
Pietro shook his head. "I once heard someone say that love makes people stupid—doesn't matter if they're men or women. Looks like that's 100% true. Peter, dude, you don't have to rush things with a girl!"
The young Peter pouted. "Uh… Mr. Strange, that was future me who made those choices!"
Not all of the students stayed put in the opera house, though. MJ noticed Peter had disappeared and snuck out to follow him. Ned and his girlfriend did the same, and before long, the three of them ended up right at the ambush site.
And that's when the Fire Elemental arrived!
Unlike the Water Elemental before, this one was even more powerful and dangerous. It could consume metal to grow larger and stronger.
Peter didn't hesitate. While the crowd fled in panic, he rushed in to fight the monster—only to find it wasn't an easy opponent. Luckily, Mysterio arrived in time to help.
The two worked together, attacking from both sides, finally managing to deal some damage. But just then, Peter spotted Ned and his girlfriend trapped on a nearby Ferris wheel.
He had no choice but to split his focus, rushing to save them. Meanwhile, Mysterio struggled to hold his ground alone. In the end, he had to unleash his full power, throwing himself into the Fire Elemental and taking it down in a mutually destructive attack.
With the crisis over, Fury stepped in to clean up. He praised Mysterio for his bravery and invited him to officially join the team.
In contrast, Peter's performance that night was disappointing. Coupled with how he'd been trying to dodge responsibility earlier, Fury coldly remarked:
"Maybe Tony Stark made the wrong choice."
That hit Peter hard. He never wanted to be forced into this—he was dragged into it. And deep down, he knew he hadn't done his best. Thinking about Tony's expectations only made him feel worse.
Mysterio, playing the role of a kind older mentor, invited Peter out for a drink. Since Peter was underage, he just had some lemonade.
But honestly, after everything that happened, even lemonade tasted bitter. He was exhausted, frustrated, and full of self-doubt.
He couldn't help but vent to Mysterio. "I feel like I've let Tony down. He put so much faith in me, but all I can think about is MJ…"
Mysterio comforted him like a supportive big brother.
Just then, someone brought over a pair of glasses—it was the E.D.I.T.H. glasses Tony left for Peter. He must've lost them during the battle.
Seeing them again, Peter immediately remembered Tony's note: "For the next Tony Stark."
A thought suddenly struck him. Maybe Tony didn't mean for him to have the glasses. Maybe he was supposed to find the right person to inherit them.
His eyes lit up as he looked at Mysterio. It was obvious—he believed Mysterio was the person Tony had been waiting for.
At that moment, the video paused, and a question appeared.
[Who deceived Peter Parker?]
