Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 : Origin of Villages

When Victor left Uncle Mukhtar's house, he was quite confused. He started walking on the village road in this state. The reason for this confusion was Uncle Mukhtar's last words. However, along with the confusion, the emotion that stood out was excitement. His excitement kept increasing. It was quite normal for this feeling to stand out.

In Blue Star, it was very normal for every ordinary person to dream at least once about flying, escaping from underground, summoning rain, diving into the seas, searching for treasures, and even going out into space and adventuring on new planets. Of course, these dreams were not even close to becoming reality; they were millions of miles away. However, to walk a path of thousands of steps, one had to start with the first step.

Today, he was working to take that first step, a journey of ten years. He worked in mushroom fields during the dark period and cutting wood outside the village during the solstice periods. In return for this effort, he was not afraid to spend his contribution points; he constantly reduced his own life to continue. Today, he had reaped the rewards of that ten-year effort. Or rather, he was close to getting something for the first time in return for his effort.

He would get the reward for this effort on the day he could step onto the extraordinary path. That's why he couldn't control his excitement. This excitement was enough to overcome his confusion. In this state, he continued to walk, half confused, half excited, half out of his mind. His feet maintained a steady pace, walking faster than a walk but slower than a run. He wasn't even aware of how he looked from the outside.

Victor wanted to reach his house at the fastest speed possible. When he arrived at his house's door, his mental state had just begun to return to normal. However, he didn't even know how he had arrived at his doorstep. When he inserted the key into the door lock, he felt a little better.

He pushed all these scattered thoughts to the back of his mind and threw himself into the house. Now, he wanted to check the extra information in his mind and organize it without further delay. He was still beside himself with excitement. Therefore, he paused for a moment and felt he needed to calm down. He had gotten a little too caught up in the situation he was in. He took a few deep breaths and decided to take a warm shower to calm down.

Victor restrained himself a little more and threw himself under the warm water. He stayed in this state for a few minutes and felt that his excited mental state had decreased considerably when he started taking his shower. He didn't linger in the shower too long. However, he felt that his pulse had dropped from 120 to much more normal levels. This state was the state he needed to be in during the important moments of his life. Calmness and wisdom were what distinguished humans from other animals.

After changing his clothes and feeling calm enough, he sat cross-legged on his bed. He emptied the scattered thoughts in his mind and began to check the extra information in his mind. He had already roughly checked this information at Uncle Mukhtar's house. However, he was aware that the environment was not suitable and he didn't have the opportunity to check it in enough detail.

This made him curious about the majority of the information he had received. According to the information he had seen superficially, he thought that the most important information here was the breath control diagrams and breath patterns. These patterns represented the key information to step onto the extraordinary path.

The other information was mostly a section where common sense and basic information about the extraordinary path were explained. Victor thought that these basic information should be looked at before examining the breathing method in depth. Although he had been in this world for almost 10 years, his knowledge of extraordinary people remained at a very limited level.

The only person on the extraordinary path in his village was the village headman. However, the only extraordinary thing that the village headman used and people could see in the village was that he made it rain out of thin air. Victor knew nothing about how he did this and what the principle of this extraordinary event was.

In fact, he had been going out of the village at sunrise times for ten years. However, the location of the village he lived in was the main reason why he never saw any time when extraordinary people acted.

Berta village was one of the closest villages to Artun city. Villages were usually established near resource points close to cities. However, not all of these resource points were close to the city. Therefore, border villages had to be established a little further from the cities. However, this distance was still kept within relative ranges for security. Still, border villages were in a much more dangerous situation than other villages.

Apart from these, a rare resource situation that occurred in the area where people lived could make things much more dangerous. When such a rare resource emerged, it could trigger a war between monsters and humans, causing both sides to suffer. However, this situation almost never happened because the location where people lived remained in a very barren area on the planet. In normal times, humans and monsters mostly maintained the status quo.

The region was already cold and barren enough. Therefore, the creatures living here did not like to do anything that would waste unnecessary energy. This was quite normal because anything that indicated a loss of power in such a place could become a life-threatening thing. A war waged for anything that was not worth it would come back as harm to both sides in this region. There were countless threats waiting outside with their mouths open, and every step had to be taken with extreme caution. This was the experience that human generations had gained by paying the price in blood. Therefore, no human would joke with their life on this matter.

This situation did not mean that people lived a very comfortable life. Yes, regional creatures tended to behave this way. However, there were countless dangers outside, such as groups that hunted and fed on the carcasses of constantly hunted creatures, ambushed and attacked every target they saw. Regional creatures, on the other hand, either waited for certain resources in that region to mature and protected them, or adopted a symbiotic lifestyle with that resource. Danger and fear were never absent from human life.

Victor's village, on the other hand, was quite lucky in terms of its location. This village was built on one of the first resource points that Artun city captured as it expanded outward. This resource point was a small mine, and it was completely extracted in a short time. Victor himself had even entered this mine and dreamed of making a fortune with any overlooked mineral piece. But of course, this dream ended in disappointment.

When the resource point here lost its function in a short time, the village's main source of livelihood became almost entirely mushroom farming.

After that, new resource points continued to be found and new villages continued to be established. This situation caused the danger level of Berta village to continue to decrease steadily due to its position behind other villages and its proximity to the city. During sunrise times, people were constantly active outside Berta village and were in between to reach other villages. Therefore, even though Victor had gone out of the village during solstice times, he had not experienced any danger and had not even been near any event where extraordinary people acted. He didn't even try to go further and witness it. No human who valued his life enough would do such a thing.

Although the danger was low if he didn't go too far when he went out of the village, the harvest was extremely mediocre accordingly. Since the area outside the village was a place constantly used by the people in the city, even if something extraordinary appeared here, it would be almost impossible for him to find it. Even valuable small herbs that could appear here would not take long to be found, no matter how hidden they appeared. Therefore, except for the first few times Victor went out of the village, he did not bother to rely on his luck and look for anything extraordinary. He was just thinking of cutting as much wood as he could and trading the wood he cut for extra contribution points.

This was the most logical thing to do anyway. Leaving the safe area of the village was no different than entrusting his life to chance for ordinary people like him. Although the curiosity and exploration of the unknown was always one of the strongest feelings of people, they could continue to live in these difficult conditions because they could restrain this feeling enough in situations where almost certain death was in front of them.

When they became strong enough, they pursued this curiosity, improved themselves more and adapted better. Victor fully agreed with this.

An example of this situation was experienced in his village. In the beginning, a group of strong young men from the village came together to go out of the village and find extraordinary herbs. They even called Victor to this group. It was not a secret in the village that Victor practiced archery, perhaps they wanted to add a little security because of this. But Victor did not accept. This caused rumors to spread that some people from that group were cowards and that their destiny was to stay in the village for the rest of their lives. But when he heard these, he just laughed and didn't care much. The result of this event ended without much twists and turns, with none of those young men returning to the village when the solstice time was over. None of those confident young men returned to the village alive, and there weren't even their corpses. There were thousands of examples like this.

Even the extraordinary people in the city occasionally had news of their deaths, and these news were what ordinary people heard. The reason for these news was that these people often had ordinary relatives. In families of extraordinary people in the city, there were perhaps constant deaths in city patrols, hunting teams, exploration teams, and people here considered this quite normal. Compared to other people in the village, Victor thought more broadly. He found it quite ridiculous to risk his life in a place where even people who were dozens of times stronger than him were constantly dying and he didn't even have the slightest idea how they died. He always had an adventurous personality and loved to adventure, but adventuring in this environment without any power was a suicidal move.

As long as there is life, one can continue to hope. Victor was aware of this. That's why he was able to continue to persevere for ten years, albeit slowly. He really had imagined at the beginning that he would have a system to awaken a golden finger, like in the novels he read in his old life. But stark reality had slapped him hard. There wasn't even the slightest sign of a golden finger. He hadn't had any tricks for ten years.

Apart from that, in his first years, he had dreamed of going out and hunting and finding an ordinary monster and eating meat, but this dream was stillborn as much as the golden finger dream. Ordinary creatures that could survive in such harsh conditions were not things Victor could hunt. It's not like he hadn't tried. But these creatures were so cunning that they neither fell into traps nor could he catch up with them with his bow and arrows.

These monsters were also familiar with human tools and traps. He wasn't the only smart one in the village. Ultimately, all of these pointed to a lack of power. Therefore, after a few years of constant slaps, Victor learned to know himself and accumulate contribution points by persevering. In ordinary times and when he rested from cutting wood, he set traps and carried his hunting bow with him. But he knew how to control the time he did this. Therefore, he could reject without thinking when those young men called him. Because he was sure they would fail. There were definitely creatures that would notice him even around the ordinary herbs they hoped to find, because the planet belonged to these creatures during the dark period. This period covered most of the time. So those creatures were much more familiar with the environment and resources than humans.

Besides, Victor knew that he was incapable of even understanding ordinary animals. He had no chance against the monsters that were active around these herbs. But he was also aware that even if he explained this, it would only cause the young men who spread the coward gossip to make fun of him more. Therefore, he rejected the offer and pushed it to the back of his mind. As a matter of fact, the result was as he expected, but he could sigh and continue with his life.
